Full Field Set for G3 Dallas BB

The second of the two Graded Stakes races in Texas on Saturday is the Grade 3 Dallas BB Stakes.  This one is for 3 year olds over 7 furlongs on fast dirt.  The purse is $125,000.  Let’s see who has shown up to race.

MAD DROPPER(KY) (7/2) Trainer shorblue4 brings this 3 year old colt in off a win in the Mookie Into Niner Memorial.  In that win, he ran a career high 104 speed figure on two weeks rest.  This youngster came to the track with winning on his mind.  He has finished in the money in all ten of his starts and has won seven of them!  That is the way to start a career.  He has six stakes wins and finished 3rd in the Grade 3 Swale.  He must be respected as a top contender here.

BIODYNAMIC(KY) (16/1) Trainer super11 brings this 3 year old colt in from Malaysia.  His last race was a tough one so we will forgive it and go two back.  In that race he won the Son Carson Memorial with a gate to wire 96 speed figure.  He has attempted three Grade 3 races and managed a 3rd in one of them.  He will have his work cut out in this race.

DUMANJI(KY) (15/1) Kindone5 brings his 3 year old colt in from the same race in Malaysia that BIODYNAMIC ran in. This youngster closed nicely in that race and finished a very fast closing 3rd versus Grade 3 competition.  He matched his career high best 93 speed figure that day.  The negative is that is not going to be fast enough to win this race.

WAKI COLT(NM)  (42/1) Trainer lgbost5b ships his 3 year old colt over from Tasmania to Texas to try and get a piece of this one.  He comes in as a huge long shot but has back to back wins.  Last out, in allowance company, he won with a 92 speed figure.  That was almost 20 points better than his previous best.  He is very lightly raced and if he improves again he may get a small piece of the purse at the large odds.

BIGOILCONGLOMERATE(GB) (11/1) This 3 year old colt from the homearoan stable ships in from California to compete Saturday.  After running an impressive 98 in allowance company he was sent to the Florida Derby where he managed to finish mid-pack among some of the top 3 year olds in the country.  My biggest concern with this one is the 7 furlong distance.   From his past performances he seems to be more of a miler but he has class.

TOP NOTCH HERO(KY) (11/1) Here we have a 3 year old colt from the stable of tmaria.  Two races back he beat BIODYNAMIC and DUMANJI in the Grade 3 Llama Enforcer Stakes.  In that race, he closed from 10th to 1st down the stretch and ran a 94 speed figure.  Even though he has won a Grade 3 race he will have his hands full with a few of these new faces if he does not run faster.

CAT IN A HARDHAT(KY) (12/1) Troync1 ships this 3 year old colt in off a disappointing 11th place finish in the Arkansas Juvenile.  His last two races have been versus some of the top horses in the county and over distance so we will go back a bit farther.  Four back, in his last sprint, he ran an impressive 95 speed figure in winning the Elk Elk Handicap.  I think we can expect something similar to that performance today as he drops back in class and distance.

TALEB(KY) (11/1) This 3 year old exits the Time to Fly Pye Handicap with a 3rd place finish and 96 speed figure.   That was his best race up to this point and will need to improve on that race to beat these.

DANGER CAT(KY) (10/1) This 3 year colt ships in from the New Hampshire for trainer stormbird9.  Two back at this distance he won the Crescendo Memorial with a fast 98 speed figure.  He has finished in the money in nine of his ten sprints and has managed to win five of those.  If he brings his best he may find a piece of the purse.

ACURA CAKE(KY) (9/1) Trainer elysium ships this lightly raced 3 year old colt in to do battle.  This one has a monster closing kick.  Two back he came from 9th to 1st to win the Becky’s Lords Stakes with a 97 speed figure.   He has won four of his five starts and deservedly gets another shot at a graded stakes.  The competition is tough but this fast improving colt will be flying late.

E BUDA(KY) (8/1) Chop brings this 3 year old in off a Grade 3 victory in the Bay Horse Stakes.  He ran a career high 100 speed figure in that race and comes in on top form.  He has been in the money in his last three and is well placed here.  He seems to like 7 furlongs and may get some of this purse.

SEPARATED AT BIRTH(KY) (8/1) This 3 year old from the sportoking barn comes in off a fast closing 2nd in the Grade 3 Bay Horse Stakes that E BUDA won.  Prior to that, he showed early speed in winning the Time to Fly Pye Handicap with a 100 speed figure.  In eleven sprints he has managed to win six and loves the 7 furlong distance.  He is dangerous and has been improving rapidly.

PERSIAN LYRIC(IRE) (7/1) This 3 year old colt from thematrix barn comes in off a 2nd in the Project Dixie Memorial.  In that race he earned a career best speed figure of 102 giving him back to back figs above 100.  He is a strong contender off two nice figures in stakes races.

BARB’S YOGI BEAR(ENG) (25/1) Kaleigh trains this 3 year old colt and ships him in from Oregon.  Last out, he was switched from turf to dirt and ran a career high 96 speed figure in allowance company.  This huge jump in competition seems to be too daunting a task for him.

My take:  There are quite a few contenders in here.  My first thought would be that MAD DROPPER has ran the fastest and loves to win.  He also gets top jock C. Shoemaker along for the ride.  I do not want to take him because the odds are too low in this contentious race.  PERSIAN LYRIC gives us solid 7/1 odds and has run two back to back 100+ figures.  I will take him to snag his first Graded Stakes victory.  I do say, use this with caution.  This is a very wide open field and I would not be surprised to see many of these in the winners circle.
