Three Year-olds To Test Older

Three Year-olds To Test Older

Florida – The Grade III Tai-Bo Stakes is for older fillies and mares and will compliment a fine afternoon of racing here in sunny Florida.  A purse of $125,000 is up for grabs with the major portion going to the horse that can travel the 1 1/16 distance over the turf course the fastest.  Here is a look at the field by post position.

Wango Tango (3/1) is a 4 YO daughter of Pine Bluff and is trained by Zewango4.  She has only won four races and the last was a mile allowance but she made the lead in the Grade III Train Station and the Grade I Vegas Special.  Unfortunately she couldn’t hold on to it and finished 4th and 5th respectively.  She does have a top three finish at this level when she finished third in the Grade II Original Margarita but she will need her best on Saturday.

Allwins trains number two Cats N Tails (27/1) but I doubt if he’ll see a win with this filly on Saturday.  It’s just too early for a 3 YO to take on older and this Afleet Alex filly has only four races under her belt.  She has won three of them including last time out in The Kiss In The Wind Memorial but I doubt she will hit the board against these.

A 4 YO daughter of Fort Wood will break from post three and Blue White (9/2) is conditioned by Safbred.  She has won three of her last eight and has a career total of five wins.  She won The Round Dance three back at a mile and a sixteenth, earning a 103 speed figure but did not fare at all well last time out when she stepped up the class level to the Grade II Black Betty. It will be interesting to see if she kicks it up a notch.

Bad Scene (4/1) is ranked # 13 and has a temper to go with her name – or maybe that is where the name inspiration came to owner/trainer Lenny6.  Or maybe it’s because she is not the best looking creature I’ve ever seen.  Why ever will remain a mystery but the 4 YO daughter of Pleasantly Perfect is neither pleasant nor perfect.  She can run, though, and has won nine of her 20 starts.  She has one of the top speed figures (a 106) in the race and definitely fits here class-wise with wins in the Grade III Matress and the Grade III OK Bayou BB both at longer.

Sgtbones will saddle the # 2 ranked filly, Bella Figura (2/1), by Kingmambo.  She has won an incredible 27 races and has won over two million dollars.  The 6 YO can still churn out triple figure speed numbers but seems to need longer between them.  That’s ok because she isn’t any young thing that can bounce right back, but the vet truck was backed up to her stall all morning and she should feel fine by the call to the post.  She is the winner of The Easy Star and The AP Indiana Memorial and seems to be on track for another big run.

Slades is the owner/trainer of Kiss My Kris (5/1) a 4 YO daughter of Empire Maker.  She has won six of her 21 starts and she is a nice solid filly that a trainer wishes he had about a dozen of in assorted heights and colors.  Kiss My Kriss hasn’t seen the winner’s circle in a while but she is good about bringing home a check.  She closes well and is steadily improving but in her only recent try at over a mile, she stopped.  Maybe Slades can get the vet away from Sgtbones‘ barn.

Turf Router (58/1) is another 3 YO taking on the older and wiser.  By Rousillon, she is owned by Peacefam5 and has won three of her nine starts.  She has an allowance win at The Tai-Bo distance but all of her stakes placings have been minor and against short fields.  Try this group after July when this gal will have a much better chance.

On the outside is the very well-bred Sarai (9/1) a 4 YO daughter of Theatrical.  Conditioned by Tmachine she is still legible for non3 lifetime and her only recent win was at much longer in a 10 furlong allowance.  She might be picking up horses at the end but I don’t think she is quick enough to get more than a small check.

That is the field for The Tai-Bo.  Good Luck to everyone.
