From Turffontein Race Course in Turffontein,  a suburb of Johannesburg in South Africa,  the Elite Racing Club presents the Frankel,  the second event on the club’s 2017 stakes schedule.  To be run at ~1400 meters (or 7 furlongs for the states side readers),  a compact field of six club runners will tussle for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap,  and to earn the club stakes bonus points that will decide a club champion at the end of the year.
.
Club co-honchos amir and jbcri saddle competitive runners as almost always,  and dontbetonme runs his usual contender.  New club member johnkarczewski gets in on the action with an unbeaten hot race demon,  while tees and harrylan send out maidens with one race between them,  who somehow vie for early morning line favoritism.  Let’s take a closee look at them in post position order and see how they shape up.

Leading them out of the paddock is this brown colt  who seeks his fourth straight score after taking his 2017 debut in a NW3x allowance at 5 furlongs,  flashing an 88 SP# after pressing the pace.  Casino Drive caballo,  out of the stakes winning sim mare Jungle Miesque Tos (by Harlan’s Holiday),  won the Bath Matt listed stakes,  also at 5 panels one back of that,  flinging an 85 SP# from the back of the pack.  He got his win streak in gear winning a NW1x allowance at 5.5 furlongs,  flipping a 78 SP# in a stalking trip.  Dontbetonme2 protege stretches back out and owns a win at this distance;  improving sort can make it interesting late as the third choice on the morning line.

New shooter johnkarczewski30 sends out this undefeated Tale Of The Cat tabby,  out of the sim mare Creedling (by Jimmy Creed),  for a fifth straight victory.  She won her first try on the green last out in a hot race allowance,  bashing  a 90 SP# in a wire to wire run.  One before that,  bay filly wired a hot race allowance at a mile on the dirt,  banging a 74 SP# in an easy win.  In her prior try she came from last of four to get the money in another hot race allowance,  bagging a 66 SP#.   Makes her first non hot race start here against more seasoned foes and takes on the boys;  speedy sort could surprise on the front end.

Our other filly exits a hard fought win in a local bred stakes at 6 furlongs,  smashing an 87 SP# from just off the pace.  Gimmethegreenlight gal,  out of the sim mare Equifax (by Authorized) held 2nd one back of that in a local bred stakes at 7 furlongs,  smacking an 89 SP# after setting all the pace.  In her previous start she was a good 2nd in another local bred stakes at 6 panels,  stabbing an 82 SP# in a stalking trip.  Bay filly from the amir1629 racing mega-stable has made the exacta in every race and likes to win (six of eight);  solid contender in close affair.

Former $2,000 claimer just missed last out in the Scortch listed stakes at three quarters of a mile,  tossing an 89 SP# battling on the lead.  Hansen hombre,  out of the stakes placed sim mare Grandma’s Toast (by Roman Ruler) took a $2,000 starter at 6 panels in his first off the claim,  throwing an 82 SP# leading at every call.  Light grey colt won that $2,000 claimer in wire to wire fashion at 5.5 furlongs,  tabbing a 74 SP#.  Speedster from the jbcri64 barn will have company on the lead,  will one of them clear or will they set it up for the stretch runners ?

.
Hailing from the bulldogagain racing group is this bay colt,  who flew home for the place in his debut at this route,  smoking an 86 SP# moving from last of ten.  Scratch bred Dubawi dude (by Nureyev) was so impressive his first time out that master stable owner harrylan jumps him to stakes company for his second try.  “He’s kicking the stall door down,  and making quite a racket all day long” relates harry in an impromptu back stretch chat.  All that speed inside him should help set up his late run;  surprisingly,  the handicapper makes him the co-favorite on the morning line at  5/2 despite four of his five opponents owning four or more wins to his none.

Last on to the track is this royally,  scratch bred (Frankel x Sadler’s Wells x Dynaformer) bay colt,  who makes his racing debut in this event.  Owner/trainer beetees has been wearing a wide smile after each training track appearance by his imposing colt.  There’s been a buzz on the back stretch over this one since the first time he had the clockers double checking their stop watches.  The handicapper seems to be paying attention,  listing him as the co-favorite on the morning line in his first attempt on the track.

Interesting field to say the least.  These club affairs always seem to be close;  this one looks like it will follow suit.
Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
