The Elite Racing Club kicks off its 2017 monthly stakes schedule with the Ghostzapper from Newmarket Racecourse in Newmarket,  Suffolk,  England,  home of the 1000 and 2000 Guineas.   A field of five three year old club runners,  including a lone filly,  will battle it out over  ~ 1200 meters (or six furlongs for the state side fans).  for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse on tap.  The winning connections will celebrate at the brief trophy presentation,  and the winning trainer will earn the lion’s share of the club stakes bonus points awarded after each club event,  which will ultimately decide the club champion at the end of the year.
.
2016 champion harrylan tries to get off on the right foot with his grass runner returning to the dirt;  club co-founder jbcri has a strong hand with the only stakes winner in the line up;  dontbetonme also switches his charge from the green to the dirt.  Club co-founder amir returns his stakes placed filly to the dirt and mightyforego gets in on the action with a speedy dirt runner.
.
These young horses can be quite unpredictable as they are still growing and learning.  This looks to be another close affair,  which almost all of last year’s club events were.  Let’s take a closer look at them in post position order and see how they compare.

Leading them on to the track is our lone filly,  who returns to the dirt after a nice 2nd in her turf debut in a hot race allowance at 8.5 furlongs,  tabbing a 72 SP# from just off the early pace.  Midshipman miss,  based on the sim he-mare Stars In De Here (by Sea The Stars),  showed some late foot getting 4th in the Vanguard listed stakes at 5 panels on dirt,  tossing a 78 SP#.  One back of that this roan filly was a gaining 3rd in the Lois Without Echo listed,  also at 5 furlongs,  throwing a 75 SP# while running out of track.  Amir1773 trainee goes turf to dirt and ran OK in her other try against the boys,  but faces faster foes here;  could be along for a minor share on top try.

Dabirsim dude,  out of the sim mare Barbzilla (by Scat Daddy),  tired to 5th after setting the early fractions in latest,  a NW3L allowance at 7.5 furlongs,  busting an 86 SP#.  In his prior try he backed up to 4th after flashing early speed in an ERC stakes,  Pine Bluff at seven-eighths of a mile,  bagging an 83 SP#.  Bay colt was an even 3rd one before that in the Savage Hillbilly listed stakes at 6.5 panels,  banking an 82 SP#.  Runner from the jbcri61 racing operation faces other like minded front runners,  looks to halt current four race losing streak off an eleven week respite.

Owner/trainer dontbetonme4 sends out this scratch bred Ultimate Eagle urchin (by Indian Ridge) who showed a new dimension last out,   rallying for 2nd in the Deep Delight listed stakes at 5.5 furlongs,  flashing an 86 SP#.  In his previous start,  light grey colt held 3rd after making all the pace at this distance in the Pro Tarzan listed,  flinging an 85 SP# from the 13 post.  One back of that he wired a NW2x allowance at this route,  flipping an 81 SP#.  Repeat of last out trip could work out here with projected hot pace;  has hit the board in eight of nine tries,  may keep that streak intact.

.
Will Take Charge waif,  out of the sim mare Distant Drum (by War Front),  makes his stakes debut off a retreating 5th in a NW3L allowance at 8.5 furlongs,  nabbing an 89 SP# after making the early pace.  Light grey colt won a NW2L allowance at a mile one before that,  nailing an 84 SP# iin a stalking trip.  He just missed in his prior run in the same conditions,  notching an 81 SP# in a front running effort.  Mightyforego15 protege cuts back to shortest race of his young career,  and SP#’s are headed in the right direction;  handicapper like his chances making him the 2/1 morning line favorite.

AUTHORIZED  DREAM             ENG     3M     harrylanclr         D McKane     5/2
.
Last out of the paddock in this bay colt who held 3rd last out in a NW3L allowance at this trip on the weeds,  snagging an 83 SP# prompting the pace.  Oasis Dream offspring,  out of the sim mare Authorized Deputy (by Authorized),  went gate to wire one back of that in a NW2L allowance at this distance on dirt,  snatching an 84 SP#.  His previous outing was a back pedaling 6th in the Boulchique listed stakes at this route on grass,  posting a 73 SP# in his stakes debut.  Runner from the harrylanclr racing conglomerate should be prominent early;  romped in his only dirt start and trainer knows how to get them ready;  can do.

Good luck everybody,  and may they all come home fast,  safe and sound.
