I Got Nothin to say about New York
Hello everybody what a great days racing we have here in New York to with the features being the Grade 1 Wooden Indian Derby lock Prep, The Grade 1 Billy and Jimmy stakes, The Grade 2 J.P. Losman Derby and the race I’m about to focus on the Grade 3 South Bronx Stakes to be ran over 7 furlongs on dirt for 3yo’s.. What a great race this could turn out to be with the 5th ranked Bermuda, 6th ranked Timeless Event, and 7th ranked filly Office High as well as a host of other up and coming horses all looking to move up the rankings so let’s take a look at the form guide and see if we can find a winner.
PP#1 50048 DUBAWI ROAD(IRE) scooterd45 S Coomer 12/1
DUBAWI (IRE) x PRESTON ROAD x JOLIE’S HALO
Very talented youngster who has had 4 wins from just 10 starts and has earned bp’s every time he has raced. However it must be said he did disappoint last start only managing to run an sp of 85 over 5.5 furlongs, before that he ran a fantastic race in the Grade 3 Super bowl stakes finishing 3rd with an sp of 95. scootered45 has employed the services of S. Coomer(21.2%) who is having an amazing season. I do think that racing the 6 furlongs will help him get his sp back to what he did 2 starts back but I don’t think it will be high enough for him to take out the event. It is also interesting to see a horse by Dubawi not being raced on the turf, perhaps if he fails again that may be his next option.
PP#2 4315 TIMELESS EVENT(FL) reddog B Child 10/1
RED BULLET x FORESTRY x A.P. INDY
The 6th highest ranked horse in the division, Timeless Event is a perennial place getter having 3 wins and 5 2nds from 10 starts. Last start must be considered the worst race of his short career, finishing last in his first attempt at routing. Today he is back to his pet distance of 6 furlongs and will be looking to show the form that helped him run 2nd in the Grade 1 Del Penn Juvenile sprint. B. Child(13.8%) has the ride and speaking to him this morning he is confident the horse can run faster than he has run before, which he will need to do if he is to finish in the winners stall in this one.
PP#3 120302 RISK TOLERANCE(KY) brightmoon P Davis 8/1
SPEIGHTSTOWN x SEATTLE SLEW x DUST COMMANDER
Up and coming chestnut colt who has built up an impressive record winning 6 of his 9 starts including the Tabasco Cat memorial stake just 2 starts back where he ran a 95 sp over 7 furlongs. Last start however it all turned to tears when for the first time he was stepped up to graded company and failed miserably running 6th 8.25 lengths from the winner. After a break of just over a month he is back chasing graded glory this time over only 6 furlongs and jockey P.Davis(7.3%) will be hoping he can get his best sp ever as the horse will need to show significant improvement.
PP#4 125933 COREY’S BULLET(KY) roscoe8 W Dishman 10/1
E DUBAI x DEPUTY COMMANDER x AFFIRMED
Here is a horse that has impressed me a lot winning 6 of his 7 starts and is improving every time he runs. The only blemish was over 8 furlongs in a restricted stakes race. Having said all that today’s race is just 6 furlongs and Corey’s bullet has never raced over such a short distance but I don’t believe that it will make much difference. Roscoe8 has called on the services of W. Dishman(14.3%) and he will be looking to sit on the girth of the leader, and if he can improve his sp (which was 95 last start) I can see him in the finish at the end of the race. At 10/1 he is a great each way bet.
PP#5 84419 HOLLOW HALO(KY) nextbonus Ax Williams 10/1
SPEIGHTSTOWN x BEAT HOLLOW (GB) x HALO
Hollow Halo is coming into this race in fantastic form winning his past 4 starts including The Bobo’s Mistake stakes last time out in which he ran a great sp of 96 winning by a 1.25 lengths coming from off the pace. His sp seems to me to have been improving with every run but can he handle graded company? If he can still get that little bit more improvement there is no reason that he can’t win this race. Ax Williams(17.6%) who is in career best form, has picked up the ride and he will be hoping to get a nice position on the rails and get the gaps at the right time. He has a fantastic chance in this event.
PP#6 17823 OFFLEE HIGH(KY) inhalers N Painter 7/1
OFFLEE WILD x HIGH YIELD x ALLEN’S PROSPECT
A filly taking on the boys for the first time since August last year. Winner of The Grade 3 Cadoka stakes last start where she ran an impressive 96 sp over 7 furlongs, and also winner of the Grade 2 Vermont Breeders Bowl juvenile as a 2yo. In an amazing move by her trainer inhalers she is being thrown into the deep end by taking on the boys possibly to climb the ladder in her own division. Nigel Painter(12%) takes the ride and he will be looking to sit just off the pace. Personally I don’t like her running against the boys as I think it could be her downfall, however I have been proven wrong before. Come to think about it I was proved wrong just last week.
PP#7 4950 I GOT NOTHIN(KY) remedy W Jenkins 6/1
PULPIT x DEPUTY MINISTER x ALYDAR
A winner of 4 from 9 starts and bookies favorite for today’s race I Got Nothing is coming into today’s race with some impressive form. Last start he managed to win and allowance over 6.5 furlongs with a speed figure of 97, but it was his previous run in the Minnesota Vs Vermont Res race where he demolished a very good field going wire to wire also with a 97 sp. This horse seems to me to have a lot of potential but will going back to 6 furlongs be his downfall? W. Jenkins(11.1%) must have done remedy a big favor to get such a gem of a ride. You can expect I Got Nothing to set the pace, will they catch him? Only time will tell.
PP#8 127227 BOULDER ROAD(KY) grammy198 C Seppy 7/1
JOHANNESBURG x BROAD BRUSH x CORMORANT
A winner of 3 from 10 and placed 3rd or better in all 6 of his starts on dirt. Boulder road is looking to finally take the next step however grammy198 has decided to bypass stakes racing and head straight to graded level. And considering all those stakes races were restricted I guess you could say he is being asked to take 3 steps so it does surprise me to see Boulder road come up at only 7/1. C. Seppy(7.7%) has the ride and he will find it hard trying to keep up with I Got Nothin. There are just to many reasons why not to like him.
PP#9 114555 HANG LOOSE(KY) jayjay99 R Foster 10/1
MEDAGLIA D’ORO x CHESTER HOUSE x NUREYEV
A winner of 5 of his 13 starts including 2 at stakes level this roan colt has been very consistent for a long time racing in stakes and graded company. But of late as the 3yo’s are starting to get better Hang Loose has stayed at the same level and does not look to have improved enough to be a chance to win at graded level. So what can be done to get Hang Loose back to his past form? Jayjay99 has come up with dropping Hang Loose back to 6 furlongs for the first time since early last year. It could turn out to be exactly what the horse needs and with R. Foster(10.9%) in the saddle anything could happen. I will however have to leave him out of my picks until his form has returned.
PP#10 117540 AUDACIOUS CHLOE(KY) want2win E Cunningham 39/1
MORE THAN READY x MANILA x FAPPIANO
A 2 time stakes winner as a 2yo Audacious Chloe has not done much on the track in a long time. Due to over racing at the top level the horse may be ruined already at such a young age, and was taken to auction and sold to want2win for $301,208. Will this prove to be a wise purchase only time will tell, but at this stage I would say no especially with Cunningham in the saddle who is 0 for 15 this year. I would suggest a long break is needed if Audacious Chloe is to get back into top form.
PP#11 115378 ALJANDER(IRE) bm4 N Gibson 15/1
NOVERRE (IRE) x ALJABR x DANZIG
Only 4 starts on dirt for a win and a 2nd for this Noverrre colt who is looking to run as well as he did last start where he ran a fantastic 2nd with a 97 sp over 7 furlongs. Today he drops back to 6 which might not be the greatest move I have ever seen, but bm4 knows what he is doing an he has assured me that his colt is at peak fitness and will be firing on all cylinders come race time. N Gibson(10%) will take the ride and he is looking forward to seeing if this colt has what it takes to compete in graded company. I don’t think he is quite up to it but who knows.
PP#12 85675 STAPLE IT TOGETHER(KY) fairfax C Ambrose 11/1
HENNESSY x SILVER CHARM x FORTY NINER
Here is a horse that has not quite been at his best of late, only managing to finish 9th and 10 in his last 2 starts. Staple it Together is a 2 time stake winner but has not looked ‘The Goods’ since July last year. Even though he did win 3 starts back it was only in Allowance Company and he will need to improve heaps on that run to look like the winner at any stage of this race. Curtis Ambrose(4%) takes the ride which does not look good for Fairfax. Not today.
PP#13 116413 BERMUDA(KY) super7 N Lawton 10/1
SPEIGHTSTOWN x SAINT BALLADO x ENVOY
Here is a horse who always races at the top level and was a winner just 3 starts back in the Grade 3 Special Bid stakes running a nice sp of 95 over the same distance as today’s race 6 furlongs. Since then super7 has tried his luck at 6.5 and 7 furlongs without success so I do think the change may help him get back to top form. However he will need to be able to run about 5 sp’s faster than he has ever ran before to win the race which I think is an improbability but he is a place chance. And you can’t go past having N. Lawton(24.8%) on your horse. If I was going to bet on him it would be for the place.
PP#14 120184 OTTO AMAZING(KY) bodgit V Jefferson 12/1
MINESHAFT x KINGMAMBO x STORM CAT
Last but not least is Otto Amazing who had been racing without much success over routes. Last time out he was put back to a sprinting distance for the first time since he won his maiden in July last year. He responded by posting his highest ever sp 94. Today he comes back in distance even further and that could help him raise his speed figures even higher which does give him a chance to win this race. Very experienced jockey Victor Jefferson(10.5%) takes the ride and he will be trying to keep pace with the leaders early I rate him a place chance.
I think I can’t go past I Got Nothing to win today he looks like he will take the lead in this race and not be caught, but there are a few other horses that have chances in this race and there are also question marks over all of them as well, so this race could go to any of these horses.
