Imperial Habitat Handicap

Well my tips may not have provided anyone with joy but Cape Slew sure did put a smile on the face of trainer lazysranch after careering away to a two and a half length win in the Imperial Habit Handicap.

After putting in a horrid performance in her second race for the year last time out, Cape Slew hit top gear and came from the clouds to hammer the field from over nine lengths behind after Spin With Pride looked as if she would wire the field. Seeing The Ransom also made ground late but could not go with the tear away Cape Slew as she gave the whole field windburn rattling past to win at $11.70. The 3yo filly saluted for her second stakes win and looks certain to develop further and enjoy a longer trip.

Spin With Pride as mentioned looked the winner but was unable to hold out the fast finishing Cape Slew with the pair of them combining to pay $53.20 for the exacta. She looked as if running from in front may have worn her out but it did not blemish her perfect record of running in the money in all ten of her starts. I would predict that it would have been a lot closer had she raced handy and not expended all energy early and hopefully we see her stepping up in distance soon.

Seeing The Ransom also run a nice race but did not have the same severe turn of foot displayed by the winner. She sat in fifth position for most of the run and came from over six lengths behind to slot into 3rd and pay $3.10 and take the trifecta to $157.10.
