Spotlight Race of the Day: Lousianna 4/14 Starter Allowance
Continuing on the journey through the MidWestern Americas region, the Spotlight pulls into Louisiana and encounters very foul weather. The featured race is a Starter Allowance for horses that have raced in a recent claiming race with a tag price of $60,000 or less. It is 8.5 furlongs in length and will be on a yielding turf track and is a local bred race open to horses age 3 and up.
1 LA BREDS TOO 8/1-Comes off a win with career best speed of 94 on turf winning in the claiming level. He’s won all three lifetime turf races but is untested on wet track surfaces. Could be better than the odds reflect.
2 VOODOO PRAYER 3/1-Nine year old still has it. Won last start with 98 speed with yielding conditions. Seems to like bad weather as he is 2-1-0 in three starts in those conditions. Late closer could run off with this one.
3 MIRROR LAKE INN 12/1-This is no Olympian from Lake Placid, but does shows some favor to off-track conditions finishing ITM 3 of 4 tries without a win. Speeds have been in mid-80 range and to be an Olympian, will need to shoot upward quickly.
4 GRIP THAT STORMY 15/1-Takes a step back from allowance level and makes first appearance on the off-track. This colt switched to turf at beginning of the season and has earned win and second in three starts, the win came with a speed of 91, best of his career. He was overmatched in last and may find this field as a better fit
5 ETBEA 648/1-This mare has been racing local breds for almost her entire career but the speeds are subpar with the competition here. Finishes have not been poor and looks like this will continue in this race.
6 SEQUOTED 7/2-Consistent on the turf with 12 ITM finishes in 15 starts and includes 6 wins. Won her only race on the wet track. Last four turf races have speeds in mid to upper 80 range which were in sprints. Speeds have been better in longer distances. Can’t rule out.
7 CAFE LISSE 7/1-A pacesetter who comes back to the turf for first time since last October. She’s been ITM in all three off-track starts with one win, however, these were all on the dirt. Speeds have been hard pressed to hit 90 range and looks unlikely to make that achievement now.
8 CMAJOR 62/1-Broke maiden in December and followed that up with a third and a second, both in low-end starter allowance events. Speeds are slow compared to the competition and this one doesn’t look like it will make a major impact in the arce.
9 SEE THE SHOT 2/1-Colt has been hot winning last two races with 100 speed in each. He has one race on an off-track setting and showed he could compete in those conditions with a win. Race sponsor Boudin2’s entrant has finished first or second in 8 of 11 turf races. Should be there again.
10 ART OF THE SAINT 10/1-Winner of last two with the last scoring a 91 speed but came on the dirt. Has two races on off track, one was a win and the other was non-competitive fifth. Back to turf for this one where she won with 85 speed back in February. Speed numbers have been improving and has reasonable chance to hit top three spot.
Voodoo Prayer is tough in poor weather conditions and gets top choice.
See The Shot’s last two are impressive, no reason to think this outing will be a poor one.
LA Breds Too had nice run in last, can bounce back with another one.
