Breeders’ Bowl Filly Juvy Turf – PRIMETIME DANSIL Fastest and Favored in Close Contest

Breeders’ Bowl Filly Juvy Turf

Grade I / Group 1 – Purse : $750,000

Restricted to 2 Year Olds, Fillies Only

8 Furlongs | ~1600 Meters | One Mile Firm Turf

The stands should certainly be abuzz at 2:10 on Friday the 30th, as not only will the Dirt Mile horses be circling the dirt track, but the juvenile fillies will at the same time be contesting the Filly Juvy Turf on the green.  As we can see from the morning line, the oddsmakers found something to like about each entrant, and that is as it should be for a race where we draw the best young turf fillies from across the sim globe.  But despite the chaos, there is just something right about watching these attractive young animals glide across the dark green carpet, flashing their gunmetal, sienna, and russet hues in the afternoon light.  Add to that the fact that you are seeing incipient greatness, as one of these will likely stamp herself a champion in her classification, and some may yet be seen again in the great races as their careers play out, or their offspring compete some years hence in another Breeders Bowl.  One should know more about such beasts before they take their run at history.

1

MONEY ALL DAY  KY  2F  lschweitzer7  T Abrams  7 starts  5 wins  $227,400  10/1

MIDAS TOUCH x WOODMAN x FIT TO FIGHT

Already the best offspring of quite moderate sire Midas Touch, and made her trainer look smart when she immediately took to the turf the first time.  That was a stakes won on the front end, and she followed it up with a repeat performance at a mile plus. From the inside, she could get the jump on them all and have it her way all the way.  She is fast enough to do so, but this big group of talented fillies will be a challenge.

2

PRIMETIME DANSIL  ENG  2F  ss89  D Givins  6 starts 5  wins  $768,360  7/1

DANSILI (GB) x DAYLAMI (IRE) x KINGMAMBO

Don’t look for her on your race viewer early, but you had better be checking for her late: she has won her last two races, a Grade 1 and Grade 2, while closing from way back. The Grade 2 was the Champagne Mile against the young boys, and she handled them cleanly in her first route attempt.  Her Grade 1 winning dam, ROYAL RUNNER, has finally broken through as a Grade 1 producer with her seventh foal.  She is the slight favorite, and if she can repeat the Champagne speed number, she can clearly defeat these.

3

RAE’S CREEK  KY  2F  wingedfoot  H Desitter  6 starts 2 wins   $298,270  9/1

GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x KINGMAMBO x SADLER’S WELLS

Hall of Fame broodmare BOTWISTED strikes again with this well-made filly, who looked promising in her Wet Bikini (naturally).  She was second in that so-named Grade 1 down in South Africa in July.  Afforded two months off, she was a disappointment in the Filly Grand Prix, beaten by the 2, 5, and 7 in this race.  She will need better form to count the cash today.

4

QUICK AS THEY COME  IRE  2F  crimeboss3  A Arthur  7 starts 2 wins $197,400  13/1

DAWN APPROACH (IRE) x ACCLAMATION (GB) x ARCH

This one was just behind RAE’S CREEK in the Wet Bikini, which counts as positive, while on the negative side, she is coming back up in class after not sealing the deal in a Grade 3 last race.  She appears capable of inserting herself behind the leaders, which should be a good place to be.  The main question is that of class, which is rather fungible at this early stage of the career, but worth considering when trying to predict a winner.

5

THE HAWK IS HERE  SKOR  2F  nagsrus  J Caves  9 starts 1 wins $133,675  13/1

HAWK WING x FALBRAV x NUREYEV

She has been hanging around in the graded ranks since summer, showing good tactical speed and even grabbing the lead for a time in the Filly Grand Prix last out.  She has only the one win to her credit so far, though, and that was in a local-bred N1X allowance.  Her sire is not frequently used, but gives her a right to relish route distances.  She will have to overcome the kind of wilt she displayed last time, as her conquerors in that match are back and will be tough to fend off in the stretch.

6

GREELEY‘S KINGDOM  KY  2F  irisharse  C Warrick  5 starts 3 wins $295,350  14/1

ANIMAL KINGDOM x MR. GREELEY x INDIAN RIDGE

Interesting scratchbred is making a rapid ascent from the maiden ranks, and now comes to the highest level riding a three race streak.  She is certain to have some backers at these somewhat longer odds, as there very well could be more in the tank we have yet to see.  Rates a quite interesting chance as the fast-developing “now” horse.

7

HOUSE OF ROMANOV  ENG  2F  super27  F Gossett  5 starts 3 wins $240,240  8/1

SEPOY (AUS) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY x DYNAFORMER

The sire was known for sprinting, but this girl has already shown an affinity for a mile and for a deep closing style.  An allowance win in August was enough for Super1 to try her in the Grade 1 Filly Grand Prix next, and she thrived, winding up less than a length behind PRIMETIME DANSIL.  She meets that tough rival again, but looks to be the equal of many of the rest of the entrants.

8

THE COMMANDS  KY  2F  meguire2nd  P Thorson  6 starts 3 wins  $317,260  13/1

MIDSHIPMAN x LAWMAN (FR) x RAINBOW QUEST

Does it mean something that her only route race was her only race to finish out of the exacta?  Is it only a fluke, in that she is graded placed at seven furlongs, which is not really a stretch to the Breeders Bowl distance?  Certainly, if she fails, it will not be because she was blazing too fast early: even in her career-opening trio of wins at short distances, she was well behind until the stretch run.  Probably needs some racing luck to find the right hole for her late surge.

9

HIVERNAL  KY  2F  icbomber3  L Radzinski  7 starts 4 wins $364,010  10/1

TAKE CHARGE INDY x KITTEN’S JOY x CAERLEON

The only participant in the six-furlong, Grade 1 Chevel to attempt this race, and in fact this is her route debut.  It is all kinds of a tough assignment, and we may need to see a side of her we have not yet seen, as she failed to hold a lead in that shorter stakes last out.  Trainer Lenny271 has a 26% overall winning percentage, and should be presumed to know a thing or two about distance switches.  Could ignite another Forum discussion on dirt sires vs. turf sires if she wins.

10

STORM QUALITY  ENG  2F  danmancan  K Friar  6 starts 4 wins $643,470  10/1

PIVOTAL x ELUSIVE QUALITY x STORM CAT

The only entrant to prep in a hot race, in which the speed was none too good, but it may have been just to keep her form warm.  The race before that was a spiffy win in the seven furlong More Glare over THE COMMANDS.  That said, she was up the track in the Wet Bikini against many of these, so if you want to call that inconsistent, it is a question mark for her performance here on the big day.

11

DIZZARI  ENG  2F  magical  S Tate  6 starts 3 wins $166,504  9/1

DUBAWI (IRE) x DANZIG x A.P. INDY

An August nonwinners of two win was enough to convince Tisjuliet Stables to try her hooves in Deauville’s Grade 3 Animale.  While it was a close headbobbing victory, it was successful enough for this further push forward in class.  The 90 speed figure was her best ever, though that does rank a notch below most of her opponents today.  If wagers were allowed, I might take a stand against in the win spot.

12

MY DREAM QUEEN  JPN  2F  elkstables12  K Ledwith  6 starts 3 wins $207,610  10/1

KING KAMEHAMEHA x DANEHILL DANCER x OASIS DREAM (GB)

Welcome to the Stockswami Stables section of the starting gate.  This relatively new operation has managed to squeeze three starters into the Juvy Filly Turf, but somehow all are marooned on the outside.  This filly was plopped into the Grade 2 Spring Hill off a pair of nice allowance wins and nearly won, finishing less than a length behind renewed rival GREELEY’S KINGDOM.  She is one of many that like to come from far back, but she has to rate a contender off her last.

13

QUEEN KAM  JPN  2F  elkstables6  T Ace  6 starts 4 wins $655,360  8/1

KING KAMEHAMEHA x DUBAWI (IRE) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

Second of Stockswami’s Kamehameha kontingent is this gal, the victor of the Wet Bikini.  Given nearly two months off thereafter, she prepped for the big day by being the only filly to take on Victoria’s Golden Shoe.  While she was fourth, she was in a tight group of good horses all taken down by still-undefeated speed buzzsaw ORPHEUS CADET.  It was a worthy effort, and it seems less likely that a speed type will steal this contest from the rest.

14

CHANTING LADY  KY  2F  elkstables18  A Jolly  6 starts 3 wins  $172,015  11/1

WAR CHANT x SEATTLE SLEW x HALO

Interesting that she has never tried dirt with that pedigree, but she has fared well enough, thank you, on the turf, including nabbing a Grade 3 last out, leading every pole.  A very wide berth in a very competitive race can be a problem for a speed type horse, but maybe she will clear the insiders, or maybe Stockswami just wants her here to put pressure on the rest and set it up for his Kamehameha girl closers.

While I have not solicited trainer quotes, perhaps we can get a little commentary or even good-natured trashtalking on our comment system below!

  • Great write-up. I really appreciate the time you take to do this.

I also want to wish all of you good luck tomorrow. But not enough to beat my Primetime Dansil..lol..I’m really hoping for my first Breeders Bowl victory. This is the first legitimate shot i’ve had and the best horse to try with. and i have been playing this game since 2001, so i’m due…But regardless of the outcome, this has been alot of fun and the anticipation is killing me. This field is ridiculously awesome and any horse in the field can win it. I’m ready to hold my trophy, lets do this.

    Good Luck to All. SS89

Thanks for the great article. Good luck to all participants and hopefully my runner Quick as they come can put in a decent showing. I’ve only had a handful of BB runners in the past who have disappointed so fingers crossed lol.
