Breeders’ Bowl F & M Sprint-7f

The Breeders’ Bowl Fillies and Mare Sprint is one of a pair of races that are scheduled to kick off the excitement in Kentucky which begins at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015. Another race (Dirt Marathon) is scheduled to begin at the same time. The Fillies and Mare Sprint, like all the other Breeders’ Bowl races is a Grade 1 race and this will be battled on the dirt track with a distance of 7 furlongs. Girls the age of three or older are eligible to enter and a large number of trainers have ventured for the race with only the top 14 point earners gaining entry.

1. 6/1 OUT OF SHAPE is wearing a target as she is the returning winner from last year’s Breeders’ Bowl Fillies and Mare Sprint winning at 8/1 odds and a 112 speed, the best of her career, up to that point in time. She bettered that speed in her first start in 2015 by winning the G1 Everclear Handicap with a 118 speed, so far this is her career best charted speed. She faltered in her next two starts, both G2 races but got back on her game with a trip to New York winning both the Vagabond Handicap and the Best Flight, both G2 races. Her last start was also in New York, a place where she has done very well, competing in the G1 Nutcracker and as 7/2 favorite she went to the front but could not maintain the spot and finished fourth. Capable of taking a second Breeders’ award.

2. 13/1 MOONLIGHT AND MUSIC kicked off 2015 with a three race win streak. This streak started with an allowance win, a listed stake win and her first grade level which came in the G2 Stonerstop with a 105 speed. An appearance in the G2 Bob Barker produced a nice third place finish. This late runner improved with a second in the G3 Azalea Special. A career best speed of 113 came in the Exam Stakes where she drew away from the field by nearly 2 strides. Her last start in the Boom Boom Handicap (G2) was disappointing as she could only muster out a sixth place finish, however, this was her first start with older runners. She again faces some older runners and will need to pull things together to be the best.

3. 8/1 PI IN THE PALACE is a seven time winner on the dirt and looks to increase the count. She has raced exclusively in the graded stakes level throughout 2015 and this front running early speedster has only chalked up one win in the current season. That win came in the G2 Long Island Sprint where she wired the field with a one length victory. She has hit the board two other times this year with seconds in the Humane Distaff (G1) and again in the Princess Looney (G1) and was beat by a fraction of a stride in each. The other three starts resulted in fourth place finishes which implies that she doesn’t like to give up and is hard to put down.

4. 12/1 IL MULINO concluded 2014 with a three race win streak that included the TOCA Sprint (G3). The 2015 racing season has been solely focused on grade level races with only G1 and G2 events placed on the calendar. Six races this year (with four in New York alone) have yielded a pair of top-three finishes. The first occurred early in the year in the New York running of the Long Island Sprint (G2) where she finished third with a 108 speed. This speed number was topped when she raced in Florida during the summer and popped a 109 in the G1 Princess Looney. She is capable of good speeds but has been hit-or-miss for much of the year.

5. 12/1 ORINOQUIA has made 2015 a season that few have been able to record. She kicked off the year winning three consecutive listed stake races at distances of 5 to 5.5 furlongs notching a personal speed record of 108 in the process. This was followed by a victory in the 5f Flying Pig Sprint (G3), her first grade level race appearance. Her win streak of four came to an end in the G1 Princess Looney where she could only muster out a third place finish. She resumed her winning ways by collecting two more listed stake wins prior to be entering into the Breeders’ Bowl. She’s run well on the Kentucky track in the past with a record of 3-2-1 in six starts and looks to add to this record.

6. 7/1 FROSTY MAE is a girl who does not give up as is evidenced by her nine wins in eleven starts with one second place finish mixed in. Six races this year have been in a mix of allowance, listed stakes and a pair of G1 races that produced 5 wins. Her only bad defeat was in an early year listed stake race finishing 9th. Since that disaster she has become engaged in a five race win streak that started with a listed stake win with a sizzling speed of 116, her lifetime best. This followed with a G1 win with a 115 speed in the Humane Distaff (G1). She beat others in this field with her impressive win in the G1 Nutcracker (113) speed. The Nutcracker win is surrounded by a pair of wins in allowance races. Could be ready to sizzle again after a softer win in last at allowance level.

7. 5/1 ALBERTA FRONT finished 2014 with a pair of G2 victories in the Quote The Raven and La Zebra, both with 113 speeds. 2015 has yielded just one win, but the speed numbers have been triple digits. She kicked off the year with a second in the Everclear Handicap notching a career best 115 speed closing strong and missing by under 2 strides. The G2 Davey Jones Handicap, an off-track surface produced the only win for this season with a solid 114. This speed would duplicate in the G1 Humane Distaff where she missed by half a stride for third. One poor finish came on the turf Winter Sprint (G2) which was more a test to see if there was any liking to the grass. She jumped back into things returning to the soil with a nice second and a 111 speed in the Nutcracker (G1) bearing down on the winner and missing by a stride. Dangerous late speed has to be respected.

8. 8/1 AUTUMN BEAUTY has run in distances from 7f to 8.5f throughout the 2015 campaign. She’s got a pair of wins with one coming at a mile in a listed stakes (in which she tagged a 113 speed), the other in the G2 Dancer Cap (7f) with a powering 110 speed with both earned in New York. Two early season seconds were back to back in a listed stake and the G2 Distaff Breeders Bowl Cap. She also picked up a third in the G3 Blackhawk Cup. With the exception of the East Coast Mile, her last start in September, all her races have been with speeds of 107 or better during the year and she could be the “Sleeping Beauty” in this race.

9. 13/1 PARTIZAN BELGRADE has won better than half her dirt races with 7 wins in 13 starts. She started the year in a bit of a struggle. She finished third in her only turf start, which was more of just a test ride on the surface. She finished fourth on a return to the dirt in the Stonerstop (G2) and things fell apart when going just over a mile in the G3 Great Fiddle Sticks Handicap (G3). In June, she found her stride with a win in a listed stakes and this was replicated in the Azalea Special (G3). The Exam Stakes (G1) gained a third with a nice late run but another win came in her last start, the Boom Boom Handicap (G2). Her career best speeds of 110 were recorded in both of her last two starts and her form has been very convincing of late.

10. 19/1 DAENERYS OF ARABIA has had a very trying year for her owner with the good and the bad. Winning two of her first three starts in 2015 that included a listed stake and the G2 Bed of Flowers showed lots of promise for a highly successful season. A 112 speed in the Bed of Flowers brought lots of hopes. Moving into July, The Gleaming Invitational (G2) resulted in a heartbreaking second when she missed by a neck and a 108 speed. Later in the same month, she finished second in a listed stake by a mere ¼-stride. But things have turned on her in recent months finishing on the backend of the field in the Nutcracker (G1) and Bluegrass Cup Distaff (G3) with sub-100 speeds sending concerns about her form.

11. 17/1 DESERT COWGIRL started the year with a win and a place in listed stakes which was good enough to advance her to the grade level where she has been racing ever since. In six grade starts she was the victor in the Bob Barker Stakes (G2). In her last start, she finished second in the Wilted Petals. She has finished fourth in a trio of events and most notably, her best speed of 110 came from a fourth place finish in the Exam Stakes. She’s got ability but getting to the top has been challenging but if she can get the lasso just right, this cowgirl can get top honors.

12. 11/1 FALCORN has the highest ITM percentage of all the runners in this field of 95%. In 19 career starts she has earned a record of 9-6-3. She has been lightly race this year focusing on stake/grade level races. She earned wins in the first half of the year in two dirt listed stake races which sandwich around a grass start where she finished fifth, her only time off the board in her career. In her first grade race, the Lil’ Leprechan Dash (G2) she blew out a 112 speed, a career best and gained her first grade win. In her last start, the G2 Boom Boom Handicap, she went off at 10/1 odds, the highest of her career, and finished second posting her second highest speed of 107. She may be underrated by some which could reap rewards for others.

13. 10/1 ELEVEN NINETIES was third or better in four of her six starts this season so far. Three of these came in grade starts that include a third in the February Hurricane Ben Handicap (G3), a win in the May Ferry Dust Handicap (G3) and a second in the August Go For It Handicap (G3). Her last start was a listed stake event where she finished in second. She has an average speed of 105 this year and a top speed of 108. She has struggled in races above the G3 level and will need to get things in line to take this event.

14. 22/1 BENCHIAN FINGERS sneaks into this race and she enters with a two race win streak. Interestingly, these were both scored on the turf track racing over the Kentucky oval with speeds below 100 and they are her first outings on the grass. Prior to this, she has run on the dirt five times, each in G1 events. Her highlights include a third in the 8.5 furlong California Oaks in April. Racing in New York in July and August produced a third in the Priceless (6f) and a second in the Exam Stakes (7f) where she ticked off a 111 career best speed. She reverts back to the dirt and keeping in mind the 111 speed, she may be ready to strike.

Frosty Mae has prepped well for this race and comes off a softer allowance race so should be in fine form , top pick.

Alberta Front keeps those high triple digit numbers going, will get a slice.

Benchian Fingers could pounce with return to dirt after running in softer allowance on turf, huge price possible.

Nice write up, fun race. I like the turf to dirt angle, so I’ll take a flyer on the outside

Nice article! I’m also leaning towards Benchian Fingers….she won a different BB race last year so class might get her through.
