Spotlight Race of the Day: 10/6 Florida Starter Allowance

The fast firm track is the place in Florida for this Starter Allowance race which is available to 3-year old fillies.  A sprint distance of 5 furlongs and only those who have raced in a claiming event with a tag of $3,500 or less over the past six months can enter.  Only 6 seem to have made that qualification and have entered the race.

1  Mydreamer  3/2-The favorite in the race will be tough as she has finished in the top three in her last three starts.   Claiming races with prices under $10,000 have been where she is the best, racing 6 times in these conditions this year with a record of 2-2-1.

2  Twin BP’s  21/1-Makes third start of career which comes on the heels of breaking her maiden in a 7.5 furlong cheap claimer that she won by just shy of 3 lengths.  She showed some late speed in that race but her speed numbers have been much lower than other runners in this field and she’ll be racing a shorter distance and I think she may prefer longer where she can better exploit her late run.

3  Playing Tricks  5/1-Has one race this season on turf and that was back in February where she was fourth.  Since then she has been a dirt runner with seven starts and finished third once as her best result.  With not much to show on the dirt she’ll go back to the turf for another try.   I think she’ll improve on the 61 speed she charted in February but the question is how much better will it be.

4   Jenn Dawson   2/1-Looks for her third straight win with the first being scored by only a half stride and the last win with her drawing away from the field by over two lengths.  She’s showing a liking to be on the lead and that may play well for her in this short sprint distance.

5  URC Cards  28/1-Made her debut at the end of August and it turned out to be a winning one.  As the 3/2 favorite she rallied from the rear to the front of the four horse field to draw away to a near 3-stride win.  It was against a soft field of CPU runners and things will be more serious this time and she can show what she is capable of doing.

6  Summertime Ade  5/2-It took a good 11 races for this filly to break her maiden which happened in May which resulted in her being claimed out of the race.  She’s race three more times with her new  connection all in allowance races with a third place best finish.  She drops back to the claiming ranks and shortens down in distance.  Big drop in class could add up to big benefit.

I like winning streaks so Jenn Dawson is top pick to add on another notch.

Mydreamer is competitive in low end claimers, gotta include.

Summertime Ade drop in class could turn into a winning move.
