The Challenge Update-5 Go To Post This Week, But Few Survive
A very busy week for the stable with 5 horses entering the starting gate. Four of the runners earned Breeding Points this week. But, off the 5, only 2 remain with the stable.
Results
VEGEMITE ON TOAST may be toasted. He was sitting on the sidelines for the past two months and maybe I’m at fault for throwing him to a distance of 10 furlongs this week and he finished a double digit lengths back in fourth in a five horse field. Luckily, he stayed in Japan and there was no travel notching against the 10 BP’s earned. The 67 speed doesn’t sit well for me, so he’s going to the auction. G-card was gained from the race
TENNO SHO ran for a cheap $3,000 claiming price and if it weren’t for difficulties spotting him in a race and paying for shipping, I would have gained some credits. He made a modest late run but nothing spectacular or serious but slipped into the fourth spot at the end of the race. Only walked away from the track with a G-card dangling in my hand.
ELITE DANE continues to be impressive and a gem for this contest. This week he went a bit longer and higher in class. The race was a dirt mile for a rich claiming price of $125,000. Elite ran second in the first half of the race and moved to the front but got run down in the stretch by a 22/1 longshot. Not to upset with that as Elite himself was a 15/1 longshot. Finishing second brought 17 BP’s and he’s been 1st or 2nd in each of three starts for me. And this 7-year old scored his career best speed of 103. Some get better with age! Two cards drawn from the deck due to the large field, but they were both G-cards.
I’ll miss HALF TANKED who raced for me a total of five times. This was his last week as he was claimed away from me in a $7,500 claiming race where he went a mile distance. He left on a very good note by picking up a win for me marking a record of 2-2-0 while with the stable. 25 BP’s were earned this week and he brought me a total of 102 during his duration. Finally, three cards were also picked up with the win happening in a large 13 horse field. The cards included an F-card and a pair of G’s.
SOLID KASH CARD ran in a 5 furlong MSW with three year olds this week and duplicated her 57 speed from her first start. She finished fourth in the race and picked up 7 BP’s along with one card to boot (G-card). I’ll give her one shot on the dirt and if she doesn’t pick things up, she’ll be cut free.
Stable Changes
I’m keeping the Auctioneer busy as Vegemite On Toast has been sent off and SPIRNG PROSPECTS has been moved out of the farm and will train for next week. Vegemite brought only one buck at the auction.
Also, Tenno Sho has only brought in BP’s once in four starts. He’s capable, but I’ve lost patience with him. He was sold for a much nicer $28,377. I’ve burnt up another 4-G cards and bred DESIRED RUNNER as a 3-year old. The pedigree for this one didn’t come out with anything that caught my eye, so he may turn out to be a quick flip. Still, he may proof worthy. He’ll train for a week then hit the track.
To quickly fill the gap with the Half Tank claim, I opted to burn through some more G-cards. I do have three in the farm but they are not ready to return to the track. So I used DESPERATE MEASURE as the name, as I have become desperate in this challenge. She came out as a 3 year old filly and has connections in her breeding to some nice runners, such as Awesome Again, Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer. Maybe she’ll produce.
Totals
SIRE CARDS:
7 G-cards and 1 F-card this week were earned with the races. I used 8 G-cards to breed two horses. The total sits at 2-F cards and 14 G-cards.
BP’s
59 BP’s earned this week advancing the challenge total to 407.
Tis a Snakes n Ladders world you have conjured for yourself, Sir Ken !!
