Grade I
A mile and one sixteenth on Firm Turf

Fillies, 2 years old
We are here in the beautiful Irish countryside, marveling and knowing exactly why they call it the Emerald Isle. We are watching the two year old fillies who are blossoming into young ladies at this time of the season. We are looking at some of next years best young females so let’s take a look:
1 – ZYRAH ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEED RANK 13/1 Zyro 8.9% E.Newcomb 10% 76.4 73.5 33
(RAHY x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x SADLER’S WELLS) Six of seven in the money for this pretty chestnut lady. She won her first Stakes race last time out so trainer Zyro decided it was time to take a turn against the Graded girls. He has been stretching her out a bit at a time and she may prefer the longer distances. She has been very consistent if unspectacular and likes to come from off the pace wasting her inside post. Jockey Newcomb is quite capable and will help out here.
| 2 – GREEN DIESIS(GB) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14/1 | Pisano2 | 14.1% | T.Ranger | 8% | N/A | N/A | 41 |
(DIESIS(GB) x GREEN APPLAUSE x ROI DANZIG) Another nice looking chestnut filly that won her first Stakes race last time out. Trainer Pisano2 watched her stumble badly in her only previous Graded outing but believes that she will like the extra distance. Her last race was her first at a mile and she had her best SPF with an 80. She has won races from both off the pace and leading the field so jockey Ranger will have to feel her along and see where she wants to go.
| 3 – A CASE IN POINT | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14/1 | GoodTimes | 17.2% | A.Jones | 12% | 71.6 | 71.6 | 64 |
(POINT GIVEN x APTITUDE x STORM CAT) Our most senior veteran with eight races under her belt, Trainer GoodTimes brings this nicely bred filly out of broodmare SMITTEN to her first Graded outing. After starting her career on the dirt, she switched to the grass two back and has shown vast improvement. She finished in the top two and just missed a Stakes win last time out when she faded slightly at the finish. She has a good one in the leather and Jones will make sure she has something left at the end.
| 4 – TREVIANA | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7/1 | Bellissimo | 17.3% | Z.Kentucky | 21% | 83.4 | 83.4 | 34 |
(TALE OF THE CAT x DIXIELAND BAND x MILL REEF) After winning her first three, this filly just missed in a GIII last time out, leading the entire way and just passed in the stretch to finish third. Trainer Bellissimo liked what he saw there and is braving the Graded circuit once again. She threw a nice 83 SPF at a mile last time out and that should contend here. The “Z” man, Mr. Kentucky is in the irons and is one of this tracks best and he sure likes to guide them to the winners circle. Watch out for this pair.
| 5 – ONESTEPATATIME(GB) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13/1 | Endor | 26.1% | G.Holland | 4% | 82.2 | 82.2 | 42 |
(FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND (GB) x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x DEPUTY MINISTER) After switching to the green stuff, this filly has won two in a row and the last one was her first Stakes win. Trainer Endor saw a huge improvement when she stretched out to a mile and she threw an 83 SPF. I expect to see her as the early speed in the race as she loves the lead. Endor will have to make sure that Jockey Holland doesn’t use her up too early as he has really been struggling with his mounts this year.
| 6 – VALET PARK | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 17/1 | RRLogans | 4.1% | A.Reed | 16% | 76.8 | 75.4 | N/A |
(ECTON PARK x DYNAFORMER x THUNDER GULCH) This filly out of successful mare DRY RAIN is looking for some of his mom’s namesake as she ran her best race on an off track last time out. The weatherman isn’t cooperating so Trainer RRLogans will have to come up with something else for this race. He has a more than capable jockey up in Reed but this filly is going to have to bump up her SPFs a notch to compete here.
| 7 – DESERT HEIGHTS(IRE) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8/1 | Stalmanu3 | 3.6% | E.C.Doyle | 11% | 84.8 | 84.8 | 43 |
(GALILEO (IRE) x DESERT KING (IRE) x SLIP ANCHOR(GB)) After winning two in a row including a Stakes race with a sizzling 84 SPF, this filly stepped back a bit in her last race with a sixth place finish in a GIII. But she was still moving well at the end and making up ground and had an 82 so trainer Stalmanu3 thinks that she may be okay here. She has definitely been happier at the longer distances and she is in the quite capable hands of jockey Doyle, so he may be right about that.
| 8 – SWAINISH HELL(IRE) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9/1 | DerbyKing9 | 15.9% | Pu.Jenkins | 8% | 84.8 | 81.3 | 24 |
(SWAIN (IRE) x SEATTLE SLEW x ALYDAR) How do you argue with six times in the money in seven races and getting better? This nice looking filly had won three in a row, including two Stakes races before she just missed winning her first Graded outing in her last race. Trainer DerbyKing9 thinks that the Morning Line may be overlooking his fine young girl and I tend to agree. She was finishing hard from way back and was less than a length back at the end with an 84 SPF. The extra furlong might be just the ticket although she may have to overcome jockey Jenkins who has really been struggling this year.
| 9 – SOMETHING UNIQUE | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10/1 | Jarrod4 | 5.4% | R.Inch | 6% | 84.5 | 84.5 | 18 |
(KINGMAMBO x ELUSIVE QUALITY x ARCTIC TERN) It has been six weeks since I watched this girl run in the FILLY GRAND PRIX GI where she finished an impressive third place with an 84 SPF. She was looking good at the wire and the extra distance here may help. She hasn’t run in that long though and trainer Jarrod4 likes to give her long stretches between her races, thus this will only be her fifth race of the season with money finishes in the other four. She looks ready for a break out here but I worry about the jockey in that Inch has really had a tough year. Hopefully he can put it all together here.
| 10 – JO’S SPANISH GOLD | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12/1 | RMS | 25.0% | F.Dirks | 10% | N/A | N/A | 81 |
(JOHANNESBURG x EL PRADO(IRE) x SEEKING THE GOLD) This nicely bred and beautiful charcoal filly has certainly done everything asked by trainer RMS. She has entered three races and won them all including two Stakes races. This will be her first Graded effort and the first time longer than six furlongs though and you have to wonder if she can handle the extra distance. She has the capable hands of Dirks holding the reins and he may work some of the magic that he seems to have with young horses. She will need to push her speed figures up to compete but if she likes the distance, that may not be a problem.
| 11 – AWESOME VISION | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9/1 | Seppy | 20.2% | P.Michael | 3% | 82.6 | 74.1 | 121 |
AWESOME AGAIN x POINT GIVEN x DANZIG) I’m as confused as trainer Seppy as to what this young lady likes best. She seemingly has yo-yoed between good and average races, but this should be an “up” week. She won on an off track and finished strong once at a mile and fell back at the end last time out at the same distance. Add to that fact that jockey Michael only has three wins this year in nearly ninety races and you understand the nearly double digit odds. Pretty tough competition here to get it all figured out at once.
| 12 – TARA(IRE) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11/1 | BredToSell | 14.8% | C.Rice | 13% | 80.4 | 80.4 | 143 |
GENEROUS(IRE) x GALILEO (IRE) x WARNING(GB)) This will be the first Stakes outing for this nice chestnut filly but she has won both of the races that she has entered previously and she won those both impressively. Trainer BredToSell likes what he sees in this GENEROUS offspring and I tend to agree. They have Rice in the saddle and he sure knows this track and how to handle the youngsters. She doesn’t have the experience of some of the other girls in this race but she is certainly looking for a breakout race and it wouldn’t surprise me if this was the time.
| 13 – TORCH THE FLAME | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5/1 | Super7 | 26.9% | M.Russell | 10% | N/A | N/A | 99 |
KINGMAMBO x SEATTLE SLEW x ALYDAR) I watched this filly run in the MORE GLARE Stakes GII two back and was impressed with her third place finish. Trainer Super7 then sent her out at a little over a mile and she didn’t seem to like it quite as much thus I am a bit surprised that she is back at this distance. She looks to be more appreciative of getting the shorter races over sooner and you have to wonder if she is going to be a better sprinter. Super7’s record is hard to argue with though and with Russell in the irons, this trio could easily prove me wrong.
| 14 – REGATTA(AUS) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | AVG SPEED | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9/1 | Simon1966 | 8.8% | P.Adams | 9% | N/A | N/A | 152 |
(ELVSTROEM (AUS) x DARSHAAN(ENG) x CANDY STRIPES) This Australian bred by freshman sire ELVSTROEM has two wins and some nice speed figures to her credit but it is only in three races and this will be her first Graded outing and the first time past seven furlongs. The jury is still out on this girl and trainer Simon1966 hopes that some of those questions can be answered here. She likes to stalk the leaders so she may see some early traffic parked way out in fourteen. A tough one to figure here.
Morning Line = 13-4-7-8-11-14
Yoss Tipsheet = 4-7-8-14
Paz Picks = 4-7-8-12
A fairly even race with some really nice looking fillies makes this race really tough to handicap. I like TARA to gain some necessary experience and finish fourth. I wish that SWAINISH HELL had another jockey up as I have no confidence in Jenkins so I am putting her third. It is definitely possible that DESERT HEIGHTS will break out and win this race but I think she may fall just short to TREVIANA . She’s on her game and I think that the addition of jockey Kentucky will be the difference.
Good luck to all runners!
