Breeder’s Bowl Preview I
With no grade I races last week and just one juvenile grade I this week the we take this opportunity to get caught up with the top contenders for the Breeder’s Bowl Races. He we just take a look at the four Juvenile races.
Race : Breeders Bowl Juvenile – Grade I – $1,000,000
Track :
Restrictions : All horses, 2 years old
Distance : A mile and one sixteenth on the Dirt
This is one of the better juvenile fields I can remember. There are several in here with a very good chance and unlike a lot of years I think many of these could be players as three year olds.
Degoldenstorm appears to be the runner to watch. He is bred to develop early (Dehere X Seeking the Gold X Storm Cat) He has gotten better as the year has gone on with improving speed figures in his first five races. His last run was a good win in a grade II where he ran a sparkling 94-speed figure.
Literary God is another that looks bred to develop early. He is by Roman Ruler and in his first route start last time out he was up on the lead and took the grade I Sparkling Wine by a length and a half. He has won five of seven and is the top qualifier for this race. His speed figures are in line and with the speed he will be a factor.
Adhesive is an off the pace runner not really bred to mature early. He has some stamina in him but his dam was a sprinter. That along with Cozzene have developed a solid two year old plenty capable of taking this race. The race will have speed and he seems plenty capable of coming from just off the pace.
Psychotic Gold is a deep closer. When deep closers close well as two year olds look out. He has six races and her last two have been in graded company where he has closed well to hit the board. If he continues to mature he could make up that extra ground in this race.
Rio Secco is an interesting runner. He ran second in a grade I two back and last time out used an allowance to prep for this race. He has solid speed figures and comes from off the pace. His dam was stakes placed at two and her other offspring was sold at two so for this one it may just be in the blood.
Race : Breeders Bowl Juvenile Filly – Grade I – $1,000,000
Track :
Restrictions : Fillies and mares, 2 years old
Distance : A mile and one sixteenth on the Dirt
You have a couple of unbeaten fillies that will face each other in this race. Past that it is tough to find runners you can see competing with the top three runners. With juveniles though anything is possible.
You’re a Towel is a perfect three for three so far with two grade I wins. She won with ease the last time out by almost three lengths. There are runners with better speed figures in the race but she seems plenty capable of running faster.
Ghostly Breeze is a perfect four for four. She is the second graded winner from this dam. She has gotten better with distance and although she won by only a head last time out in a grade II she could very well be the favorite here.
Coldstone has really shown some improvement over her last couple of races. The stretch out in distance was part of it as she finished second against the boys in her next start. She backed that up with a grade II win. From just off the pace she should be dangerous.
Race : Breeders Bowl Juvenile Turf – Grade I – $750,000
Track :
Restrictions : All horses, 2 years old
Distance : A mile and one sixteenth on the Turf
I think this is the weakest of the juvenile races this year. The top two here look pretty good but I think several of the fillies could take this race just looking at them on paper.
Mambo Wildcat looks much the best on paper. His speed figures are much higher than most of the other contenders in this race. He has won back to back races, his last a grade I win. He is a stalker and should be prominent early.
The Fast Layne is one of the few other qualifiers that seems capable of running with Mambo Wildcat. He is nicely bred and has won two of three lifetime including a grade II race last time out. He is coming from further off the pace but this closer look strong.
Shadow Creek (GB) has some how remained undefeated with his fastest speed figure being an 81. He is a grade I winner and is a likely choice to set the pace here. There is nothing to say he is not capable of a big increase of his speed figure and it is not like he has had to run real hard in his first races.
Race : Breeders Bowl Juvenile Turf Filly – Grade I – $750,000
Track : Kentucky
Restrictions : Fillies and mares, 2 years old
Distance : A mile and one sixteenth on the Turf
Horse for horse the fillies here look much better on paper than the turf colts. In fact a couple of these gals have beaten up on the boys already. Maybe this is a sign we have a pretty good turf filly class to look forward to as we move into next year.
Buda for a day is a perfect four for four on turf with a grade I win over a yielding surface against the colts. She prepped for this race with a nice easy allowance and if she has the talent she is set up well to win this race.
Dahliyev is a perfect three for three in her young career. All three have been good races with top speed figures for a juvy. She has not really been tested yet and won the grade I Filly Grand Prix with ease. She is a stalker but as the pace gets faster she may prove to be a closer.
Look out theavenger has a Breeder’s Bowl runner. Hands down one of the funniest people in the sim, I can only imaging the though process behind the name. Kevorkian Avenger’s (NZ) only loss came at the hands of Dahilyev. She is a deep closer in routes and that might be a slight disadvantage. If the pace is hot here it could help her.
Lightseeker (IRE) had done every thing right so far. Her only loss in four starts was a second in a grade II at seven furlongs. When she stretched out last time she responded improving her speed figure again beating the boys in a grade II race.
