We are here at Ostend and we’ve got four fillies with previous Stakes wins that would really like to move to the next level. This is probably the last chance to get a race in before the Breeders Bowl if the trainers are planning on getting their fillies qualified. It should be a great race. Let’s take a look:

(NORTH LIGHT (IRE) x CARSON CITY x DYNAFORMER) This beautiful chestnut filly has quite a streak going with three firsts and a second in her four races to date. Her last outing was a Stakes win with a nice 79 SPF. She just missed in the 20 horse Smackdown II race before that with her only blemish on her perfect record. Trainer Sender knows that he has something special here and she is in a perfect spot along the rail as she likes to jump out to the early lead. She is in the capable hands of VanDam who will be holding the reins and guiding this young lady to what will probably be a top three finish.

(KINGMAMBO x NIJINSKY II x ROBERTO) Another previous Stakes winner here as this hot filly won a six furlong Stakes in a short field three back. Her times have improved since then but she has missed that kick at the end to bring her another win. Trainer Super24 has to be wondering if she is going to be a short sprinter and this race may help tell that. She is in a good spot as she likes to stalk the leaders but jockey Ality will have to get her to move in the stretch if there is any hope of winning here.

(ROYAL ANTHEM x KINGMAMBO x SLEW O’ GOLD) Distance doesn’t seem to be an issue for this young girl out of broodmare PACOIMA. She has run about the same at either 8 furlongs or at 5 ½ or less. She’s always been in the top three but trainer Itch56 is going to have to find a way to bump her SPFs up just a bit to contend here. Iommi is in the saddle and will take instruction from the trainer to try and do just that. This girl has the stuff but she seems to need to bring it all together for a breakout race. Perhaps it happens here.

(SKY MESA x SADLER’S WELLS x CARSON CITY) This filly out of WELLDONECARSON has spent most of her season competing in the Alpine Turf Clubs 2 yr old Breeders Contest where she did nothing to embarrass herself though didn’t dominate either. Her first Stakes try was last time out in seven races where she ran on an off track and looked like a winner but lost the battle coming down the stretch. Trainer HolyChow is stretching her out to seven furlongs for the first time and is interested to see if it is her best distance.

(FANTASTIC LIGHT x PEINTRE CELEBRE (IRE) x RIVERMAN) This big filly has shown that she can run but seems to have a bit of a problem with focus. Trainer SDMF8 has tried several things to get her head in the game but her SPFs and interest have changed with each race. With these young fillies, you love to see a steady progression of improvement. She has Maes up in the saddle and he is good with youngsters so may be a steadying hand. There is plenty of early speed in this race so her drop back style will have a ways to go to catch up.

(UNBRIDLED’S SONG x SADLER’S WELLS x MILL REEF) A look at this beautiful cream colored filly’s record should strike fear in the hearts of the other fillies and trainers in the race. Five of six wins including a GII Graded win last time out. A close second the other race and she seems to have found her distance with a sizzling 90 SPF in her last race at seven furlongs. Trainer Brabant has the number two ranked filly and the only question is whether or not she is running too close to the Breeders Bowl at the end of the month. He has the tracks best jockey up in Smith and he will conserve this horse at the end if possible.

(HALORY HUNTER x STEPHEN GOT EVEN x TURTLE ISLAND(IRE)) Perhaps the name has intimidated this poor filly some but she runs more like a rabbit. She is a former stakes winner and trainer FabMan has shown that he certainly knows how to saddle winners. He has to wonder a bit though if this girl might like the shorter races a little better. Her last two at seven were not her best races. She’s got the stuff though and could turn it around at any time. Could be a turtle and rabbit story here.

(EL PRADO(IRE) x LEAR FAN x STONEWALK) Good looking light grey filly that ran her first Stakes outing last time out and just missed with a nice 80 SPF. She has improved every time out and looks to be on the edge of really breaking out. This would be a great place for trainer TurfSurf to take her to the next level. She has Barnes in the irons and he is excellent with these young fillies. Sometimes a jockey can really be the difference with these youngsters and his hands and voice are soft for them. This girls somewhat unspectacular record could take a huge bump with a win here.

(HIGH CHAPARRAL (IRE) x MISWAKI x NEVER BEND) This aptly named girl is moving up the ladder quickly. With only three races she has shown huge improvement in her last two and may be ready to show the world that she is ready for anything. A little surprised that trainer Elite2 hasn’t kept her at a mile as she seemed to love that distance. Hopefully the stretch out last time will improve her endurance for the stretch run at this distance. Her best races have been from the front and being on the outside and with lots of early speed in this race, jockey Morris will have his hands full making sure that she doesn’t use up her energy early.

This should be a fun race with some great talent. Although there are plenty of candidates, I’ m taking SLEW O’REGALS to finish fourth. I may regret this but I worry about the distance for ON THE ASCENT so I’m putting her third. I like MIRARI’S WAKE to come in second, she has a good team behind her. That leaves BRABASONG for the win. She’s on her game and I don’t see anyone beating her.
