No Surprises in the Breeders Bowl Prep
Saturdays running of the Breeder’s Bowl Prep – GP2 saw the lightly raced four-year-old Zygote start as the punters choice to take of the $250,000 event. With a fast track the 8 furlongs was always going to be truly ran affair and there was not to many surprises.
ZYGOTE(1st)
Dropping back towards the tail on release was Zygote who got up to 8¾ lengths off the leaders before his jockey, D.Givins, gave him a shake-up at the 4 furlongs point. Taking full advantage of his inside post, Zygote, showed an amazing turn of foot to rein in the leaders and take the lead halfway down the straight to draw away by 4¼ lengths on the line. The win gave D.Givins his seventh win for the day including a feature race double by earlier taking out the Hugo De Pero Specail on Best Rock Yet (IRE). It also proved a successful for day for the isisbabe stables by also winning with Ziggy’s Ransom who took out a two-year-old allowance taking his record to two wins from four starts.
MATAVIA (2nd)
Sat behind the leaders in the running before making his move, joined Crown the King and Sissonhill as they entered the straight and looked the likely winner before Zygote pounced. Matavia could not shake Sissonhill who sat on his outside the entire way down the straight and managed to just hold on for second by the slimmest of margins. At the juicy odds off 25/1, Matavia looks to have taken the step into the big league a nice graded win awaits him down the track.
SISSONNHILL (3rd)
Pushed forward to sit behind Crown the King, briefly grabbed the lead on entering the straight before being caught by Zygote and Matavia. Came back to Matavia on the line and would have grabbed second in a couple of bounds if it wasn’t for the finishing line. Has the uncanny ability of lifting a level in Group Two races and is yet to finish unplaced in four attempts. It was a frustrating day for the anzstable who from 6 starters finished the week with two places, three shows and a fifth placing.
Remainder of the field:
Lightbringer (4th)
Finished strongly at the end and may have found the 8 furlongs fraction short.
Crown Me King (5th)
Front-runner who tried to lead for the entire journey, I am not convinced that he is a true classic distance horse and may be better over a sprint distance.
Roman Conquest (6th)
Found the older horses too good and would prefer in own age group.
Canungra Folly (7th)
Came into this with good form but disappointed and is better than that effort suggests.
Crafty Victory (8th)
Sat at the rear the entire journey and did make ground late but was too far back to have any chance.
Androcles (9th)
Third disappointing run in a row and would prefer to see in something easier until he shows some improvement.
Husker Du (10th)
Three-year-old who found the class rise to much, is much better in his age group.
Certifably Crazy (11th)
Plodded the entire journey and may be better with the sting out of the ground.
Caer to Dance (12th)
Race handy in the early stages but had no response when called on by his jockey.
Call on the Canyon (13th)
Disappointed at graded level again and may lack the class required to be competitive at this level.
Tete Rainbow (IRE)
Last the entire journey and never made an impression.
In winning Zogote did what many expected of him, it was a just reward to a horse that has been very impressive all year and deserved a graded win against his name.Matavia may have surprised some at his odds but he was always in this with a real shot having come here with four wins in four starts. Sissonhill proved again that he can’t be taken lightly in any race he contests and has another couple of good graded races in him yet.
