The Bass GradeI for two year olds

Ten two year olds front up here in Ireland trying to earn those important points for the Breeders Bowl. It shapes up to be a wide open affair and with lightly run two year olds it can be hard to judge as to who is going to make the most improvement.

Rharfbeam has Corey’s Mission by (Glitterman) and the prepost favourite at7/2. The winner of four from six all on the dirt, with a solid fourth over 6 furlongs at his most recent run at Grade3 level, prior to that was an impressive winner of a Stakes over 6. The only query here is whether he can handle the grass, if he does than he has the class to be right in this.

Testing(IRE) from the pg51 stable by (Galileo) is next in the market at 5/1. This very impressive colt has only faced the starter twice and has greeted the judge first on both occasions and now has the thirteenth ranking. Both of his wins have been first class with good times, and he has the services of a good jock who should have him sitting on the pace all the way and this classy colt looks very hard to beat.

The (El Prado ) colt Pub Crawl(IRE) from the stormborn  stable is rated 6/1. This stylish colt is three from three and at his latest outing won a Stakes in great time leading for the whole journey going away from them at the finish.  In all his starts has led all the way and should be at the sharp end here and they will have their work cut out to run this speedster down.

Also at 6/1 is the( Johannesburg) colt Prison Escape prepared by that doyen of trainers epic. This likely looking colt debuted on the dirt for his first four runs and had a third placing in a Stakes but than found the jump to Grade2 too hard. Then he was sent out in a Stakes on the turf and won that fairly convincingly but his time was a little below a couple of the other runners here. He looks to be on the improve and with a top jock aboard should be in the finish.

Super24 has the regally bred colt Cycle Of Renewal by (Giant’s Causeway) also at 6/1. The winner of one from three, he ran a fair race at his latest effort in a Stakes to finish fourth. This bloke obviously has a heap of improvement in him but he is up against some top colts and he may need more time or more distance to be at his best.

Swift Drift with a pedigree to drool over by ( Sadler’s Wells) with donut putting the icing on him is at 7/1. The winner of one from three he is jumping up in class here and promising though he maybe he will find a few of these hard to beat especially over the sprint. He could be one to follow when the distances increase.

Graz30 has the Stormsrollin a colt by (Unbridled’s Song) showing odds of 9/1, and has won two from four. Won his maiden on dirt and was than switched to turf and at his seconded run on the grass was the good winner of a Stakes. I felt he was slightly disappointing at his most recent effort and will need to improve to get in the money here.

Also with odds of 9/1 is wonder5’s nice colt Wonderboy Escort by (Silver Ghost) with one win from three starts. He broke through for his maiden win at his last run which was over the mile on turf. . Prior to that had a seconded and a third in sprints on dirt and turf, which makes you guess he may prefer a bit more ground than this one and the class could tell against him.

At 11/1 we have the lone filly in the star studded field Rude Stella(AUS) by (Danewin) with freeky traing her. She has had five runs and the only time she has faltered is in a Grade2 where she finished fourth. Other than that run she has won the other four including two Stakes though some of her rivals here have run better times. She was very impressive in winning a Stakes over the mile last start and this very adaptable filly will give a good account of herself.

Very Silver a colt by (Silver Ghost) and trained by acote is the outsider in this race. Only had the two runs and after being injured in his debut  on dirt was nursed back to full health and  at his first try on turf strolled in with a fast time in a maiden. This represents a huge climb in class but he looks a top horse in the making and he also may appreciate it a bit longer.

If I was forced to select a winner I would go with Testing but not with a lot of confidence.
