THEATRICAL AFFAIR favorite in Malaysia Stakes feature
Welcome to Malaysia for the 2005 Kilt Raising Stakes, for 3yo Colts going a Mile on the Turf. 10 solid horses are called to the stage this Saturday ready to display their speed, endurance, and heart. The track maybe rated a beat off form, as there is a 95% chance of a early morning tropical rain.
Let’s settle in for a look at our tight field of titans to find a hint, clue , a secret as to who may light up the board capturing the $100,000 purse.
1 – MYSTERY AND MAGIC – (dshock) A.P. INDY x DANEHILL x ZABEEL(NZ))
Deserves serious consideration as a major threat. 2nd in the “Black Velvet-G3”
with a wonderful close reveals colt has class. Look 2 starts back and trainer
dshock sent the son of A.P. INDY to the top showing us early speed capability.
Hasn’t been on a yielding track before, but sure has the versatility to go
coast to coast in this mile.
2 – CLASSIC DOWELLY – (dowelly) (SKY CLASSIC x SADLER’S WELLS x GULCH)
Ranked 9th in the Classic Turf Division speaks volumes of talent. SKY CLASSIC
Colt has amassed over half million in 20 starts. Last couple possibly shows
the handicappers that he like 2 turns. 8 furlongs is his consistent distance.
A nice positive is the 2 for 3 on the board when the track is a little off.
3 – GET YOU SCURRY ON(NZ) – (earsronny)
(ZABEEL(NZ) x GREEN DESERT x NASHWAN)
You got to the love the tune up and tightening this horse has procured leading
up to this race. We all look as to WHY? when an owner steps up to Stakes after
a Allowance win. You don’t need to look past the last 3 races to see that owner
(earsroony) has done a great job with this colt. Last 105 speed rating going a
mile in 1:34 4/5 puts this one with a + next to his number to be used in the
trifecta.
4- CENTARUS(IRE) – (daninja) (GALILEO (IRE) x GREEN DESERT x TASSO)
Coming back from an off outing 3 starts ago. Wins a allowance race in “36” for
A mile wire to wire. Last start in the SMACKDOWN challenge, colt shaved off
Another 3/5 of a tick from his previous outing. This gatecrasher could be out and
winging in the first 5 strides. Form indicates improvement and could shock the
board with nice numbers. Handled the off winning his career debut.
5 – MOON STORM – (amandas) (STORM CAT x WOODMAN x MILL REEF)
Could be looming large going into the stretch. You will see this STORM CAT colt
likes to be right over the shoulders of the leaders. Never being over 4 lengths back
at anytime anywhere. Owner (amandas) has developed a solid performer who will
be looking to step up higher in the rankings with solid effort here. Early speed is
a factor for a horse that looks to make a brush move. Needs his best effort to clear.
6- POLISH PROVERB – (timjbehr) (DANZIG x LOST CODE x NATIVE ROYALTY)
Tried stakes company last start against 3yo’s and up. They were a little too tough.
Does have mid to upper 90 speed last 5 starts. Stops the clock at 1:35-1:36
repeatedly. DANZIG colt is getting better with every effort. Trainer settings will
be key to getting a piece of the purse.
7 – HAIL THE LEAF – (sdmf1) (CARSON CITY x GREEN DESERT x HALO
If you follow racing closely, You always see stakes races where a Bomb hits the
Tote Board and you ask yourself, HOW? This CARSON CITY steed is just learning
and the greenness is fading away every start! Be very aware of the nice yielding
track effort where the LEAF glided home in a solid 1:36 1/5th. Respect is earned
when your colt breaks Maiden with an 86 rating and has improved every start.
8 – BRUNDLE’S CHAPFLY(IRE) – (brundlefly)
(HIGH CHAPARRAL (IRE) x SEEKING THE GOLD x DANZIG)
Back to form after a mile and a half miscue. Wins the “MACHANICAL BIRD” in
Japan at 10-1 stopping the timer in 1:35 flat cranking off a 103 rating. In the
“SUPER TYLER” colt needed one more furlong. This horse has the
kick and determination in his stride to wear down the rabbits.
Trainer (brundlefly) will have this colt ready for the Photo! It’s all a matter
of Jockey Davis paying attention to his instructions.
9 – THEATRICAL AFFAIR(IRE) – (dontnagme)
(THEATRICAL(IRE) x BLACK TIE AFFAIR(IRE) x NIJINSKY II)
The horse to beat! THEATRICAL colt is at a career peak. Trainer has hired
A solid Jock to get the job done. Dropping down in company from a solid effort
In the Grade I “NEWMARKET RIVALRY” where he finished a tough menacing 4th
where the mile went in a blistering 1:34 1/5. The 2nd place finish going 1 mile
and one sixteenth in the “G-2 Bean Sprout Turf Cup” showed a relentless
attack on the pace setter and Barely gets caught late by a screaming
Manifest Destiny. The speed rating of the AFFAIR’S vicious route race? 110 !!!!!
10 – KING’S CONTENT(IRE) – (shorblue5)
(KING’S THEATRE(IRE) x MACHIAVELLIAN x CUTLASS)
Steady allowance campaigner will have his work cut out for him. One strong
positive is that trainer-owner (shortblue5) has found a secret shoeing
and training regimen that has exposed an off surface specialist with this colt.
A “in hand” ride from Jock J. Selden in Jamaica showcased a very quick mile
in 1:35 4/5 on the off going swooping the field. KING’S THEATRE colt is fast
enough to grab a check if the pace is out of control.
Filtering through the past performances, I find a pencil mark and a highlighted
variable for all entered in Saturdays feature. This creates so many
possibilities for betting interests. Good Luck to all owners entering this
wonderful event.
