We Shall Never Forget in New York
Welcome to
First up, in PP1, is Load The Cannons #53211, a 4 year old colt trained by winnaquid. This brown son of War Emblem has 8 wins to his credit, but with only one win in his last 5 races, back in week 2832 where he won an ungraded stakes. He can definitely handle today’s distance, but will most definitely have to step up his game to win this one today. He is off at odds of 7/1 and is being ridden by Ax Williams.
Next, breaking from PP2, is Castle Bridge (IRE) #94688, a 4 year old brown colt by Falbrav(IRE) trained by texashair. Another one who is bred to go the distance, and he does so admirably, but his last stakes try was a dismal 8th place in an ungraded. However, he did place in a G1 only two races before that last outing, so if he can repeat a performance like that, he should at least make top 3. He is off at 8/1 today, with B. Child up.
Breaking from PP3, is This Love #78835, a sdmforlife trained chestnut filly by Thunder Gulch. She is coming into this race with a stakes win at this same distance; however, that was against the girls and she’ll be going against the boys today. She did go against the boys admirably 5 back where she came in second in the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series 14f stakes. Despite her femininity, she should have a shot at at least the top 3 here today. She is off at odds of 6/1 and is being ridden by L. Hoskins.
Next up, breaking from PP4, is Kepler Svan(IRE) #91563, a 4 year old brown hollandia4 trained colt by Swain(IRE). This fellow has definitely put up some of the best numbers of this bunch, but has seemed to be in a slight stakes slump, not having won any in his last 3 starts, despite an impressive 103 sp figure two back at this distance. For speed alone, he is going to be a tough one to beat. He is the favorite today at odds of 5/1 and has jockey A. Sailor up.
Starting in PP5 is Graveyard Disciple #92658, a soulbleed trained 4 year old brown filly by Kingmambo. She, like the 3, is coming into this race off a stakes win, but also like the 3, it was against other fillies, which might prove to be a problem for her today. Her last graded try, in a G3, she finished 5th, so she will be jumping up in class yet again. She might be a good exotic if she can keep up here today. She is off at odds of 7/1 and is being ridden by K. Jantzen.
Next up, in PP6, is Elkano (GB) #87281, a 5 year old brown horse by Beat Hollow(GB) trained by zalamy. There seem to be a pattern in this fellow’s late races: a decent run, then a not so decent run, and it seems that he’s hit that not so decent run’s turn this week. His speeds are comparable to some of the others here today, but is going to have to get out of this fluctuation he’s in to get to the wire first here today. He is at odds of 7/1 and has N. Painter in the irons.
In PP7, we have Fat Seth #1648, an 8 year old mrhommell trained chestnut horse by Two Punch. Ok, I need to say this… what is this horse doing in a stakes? In every stakes event he’s tried, he’s finished well off the board, and his allowance runs haven’t been too good looking either. He’s also been running in mostly sprints, with the exception of the 12 fl Japan Classic three back. I don’t see this one making much of an impact here today. He is off at 99/1 and is being ridden by G. Rolling.
Next, starting from PP8, is High Flyer #88226, a 4 year old 2ofus trained brown filly by Dixie Union. The third filly in this race, she is also coming off a stakes win LTO, but was also against other fillies/mares. Her last race against the boys wasn’t very awe inspiring either, where she finished 10th in the Kentucky Horsemen Whiskey Cup-G1. Her numbers also have not been as good as the other girls in this race, so she is going to really get a move on is she wants to hit the board today. She is off at 12/1 and has L. Gunn in the saddle today.
Breaking from PP9, is Lite’s Out #108376, a 4 year old texasace trained brown colt by Sadler’s Wells. With only 11 starts under his belt, this colt is the least experienced of the bunch. He has put up a few nice numbers, but they have mostly been in allowance company, but he did win LTO in a G3 at this distance. Coming into this race like that will make this colt a tough one to beat. He is off at 7/1 and is being ridden by
In PP10, is Worldfly’s Wells #27455, a 5 year old brown horse by Spinning World and is trained by dawnrun. This fellow has been a solid turf competitor, but the question is will his switch back to dirt affect his running? He can definitely handle the distance, so my main consideration would be surface for this one. He is off at odds of 6/1 and has P. Davis in the irons.
And, last but not least, in PP11, is Dance Legacy #98380, a super17 trained 4 year old brown colt by Deputy Minister. This colt has put up some decent numbers, but his last race at this distance is giving me pause. He also has not won a stakes in his last five. He is really going to have to get past his distance issue to have a shot here today. He is also off at odds of 6/1 and has R. Foster in the saddle.
All in all, we have a very competitive bunch here today, with most of the runners being within striking distance of each other. Personally I like the 2, the 3 and the 4 to round out my top three, though not exactly in that order. In a race like this, it is too close to call. Good Luck and Good Racing… And as the name of the race states… We Shall Never Forget…
