VERY Evenly Matched Race in Ontario
Ontario BB Oaks
Grade III
A mile and one sixteenth on Fast Dirt
$175,000
Fillies and mares, 3 years old
Standing along the rail In Ontario there is just a nip of chill in the air as we are getting set to run down the ONTARIO BB OAKS. This mile and one sixteenths $65,000 dirt Stakes race for three year old fillies has brought together a nicely matched field with seven ladies within an eyelash of the favorite. Let’s take a look:
#1 POINT TO BEN trainer – Ben, ( 8/1), Jockey – K.Cogswell (4%), Avg Sp # (94.5)
After starting off four in a row, she has found the Graded circuit a bit tougher to navigate. This pretty roan Grand Slam filly has been trying some different distances for trainer Ben. It appears that she is back where she belongs at this distance although she seemed to like the sprints too. Cogswell in the irons has struggled some this year.
#2 KATHERINE trainer – PhoneTrick, ( 6/1), Jockey – S. Brownbridge (11%), Avg Sp # (95.2)
This Pine Bluff filly has really been running consistently this year but hasn’t been hitting the board much. She is usually just off the mark and needs just a bit of push to get up where trainer PhoneTrick wants her to be. With Brownbridge in the saddle she may get that push here. She appears to be one of those frustrating youngsters that puts forth their best effort in allowances and regular stakes.and falls back in the Graded Stakes.
#3 A.P. SADLERtrainer – Lost Code, ( 6/1), Jockey – N.Linville (19%), Avg Sp # (94.8)
This nicely bred young lady with Sadlers Wells x AP Indy x Unbridled genes has run her two best races in her last two outings with nice SPFs. They were a bit shorter than this but she has one of the best jockey at the track up and Linville should be able to pace her here. Trainer Lost Code feel she is ready for bigger and better things.
#4 CAPOEIRA(IRE) trainer – Noia, ( 12/1), Jockey – K. McCafferty (5%), Avg Sp # (87.0)
Another filly with nice breeding, this Theatrical offspring finished second in the Great Fiddle Sticks GIII three back and has kind of fallen off a bit since then at a little longer distances. This looks like her best length and trainer Noia has been breezing her nicely this week. McCafferty will be holding the reins and has had his troubles this year. Hopefully all of this could work out this week.
#5 XENOPHOBEtrainer – LoPickles, (13/1), Jockey – C.Muncie (11%), Avg Sp # (89.8)
First time Graded outing for this Sky Mesa offspring. She has two Stakes wins but has never really popped an impressive SPF in any of her previous races hovering around the mid nineties. Trainer LoPickles will have Muncie in the saddle and guiding this young filly. It will be her longest race to date and may be an advantage for her.
#6 K’S STAND TALL trainer – SledWith, ( 9/1), Jockey – Moe Johnson (13%), Avg Sp # (94.5)
Things seemed to be rolling along so nicely for this Mineshaft filly earlier this year with two straight top threes in Graded Stakes that followed last years six race win streak. Unfortunately for trainer SledWith, the wheels seem to have fallen off in her past two outings where she finished behind most of the field. Hopefully along with Johnson in the irons, they can get this young lady back where she needs to be.
#7 TROUBLEINPARADISE(IRE) trainer – SimonLee, ( 6/1), Jockey – K.Wakeman (6%), Avg Sp # (92.0)
This Barathea daughter looks like she enjoys this distance and could be a formidable challenge for the other favorites here. She ran twin triple digit SPFs before her past outing which was a bit longer. Trainer SimonLee has moved her back and the extra length last time may help her endurance some. If she can move back to those previous speeds she will be a force here.
#8 MORE THAN HIS trainer – FredDurst, ( 13/1), Jockey – V.Townsend (12%), Avg Sp # (90.8)
This pretty chestnut filly won a Graded Stakes at this distance three back and will be happy to be back on solid ground after slipping around in the mud last time out. Townsend is up and loves to guide these juveniles and sure knows how to do it. She likes to come from off the pace so the post position is to her liking as well. Watch this one.
#9 NO APAGUES LA LUZ trainer – Super21, ( 6/1), Jockey – B Renfroe (23%), Avg Sp # (92.9)
Eleven times of fifteen in the top two for this Empire Maker filly. She had an incredible year last year, placing in the biggest races and has had a good if not spectacular year to follow it up. After trying her at a couple of longer treks, trainer Super21 has moved her back to her bread and butter and has the tracks best jockey guiding her. This trio should be tough to beat.
#10 CAROL OF THE BELLS trainer – Deyoto3, ( 10/1), Jockey – B.Coleman (11%), Avg Sp # (92.9)
Althought she has been a real force in allowance races, she has disappointed trainer Deyoto3 in her two Stakes outings and this will be her first Graded attempt. There appears to be no reason that she shouldn’t be able to compete at this lever but between Deyoto3 and jockey Coleman they will need to get her head turned toward the finish and focused on the win.
#11 STORMY BREEZE trainer – Lenny2, ( 7/1), Jockey – D.Conrad (11%), Avg Sp # (94.8)
This Storm Cat prodigy has finished in the money in all five races she’s entered and looks like she loves to compete. Although this will be her first Graded outing for trainer Lenny2 she has improved each and every race she has been in and she looks to have the speed to challenge here, especially with Conrad in the irons. She has run from the front and the rear during races so I am assuming the outside post won’t bother her.
#12 WARBAGER trainer – B4Ca, ( 22/1), Jockey – V.Staff (14%), Avg Sp # (84.6)
This nice looking chestnut filly has only run longer than a mile one time and that didn’t work out so well. Hopefully trainer B4Ca has trained her up for the extra distance and she will take to it better this outing. She won a GII at a mile two back so she has the speed to compete. Jockey Staff is quite capable in the saddle as well.
Morning Line = 2-3-7-9-11
Yoss Tipsheet = 11-9-2-1
Paz Picks = 11-9-6-2
A really even race with lots of questions that need answered, hopefully these trainers will find some. In a bit of a surprise, I like K’S STAND TALL to finish third. The top two fillies here should battle for the win but I think that NO APAGUES LA LUZ will just fall short and allow STORMY BREEZE to breeze by for the win.
Good luck to all runners!
