I’ve had such a great time “down under” that I decided to stay over and cover the Group 2 event,  The Randy Vet,  to be contested at 9.5 furlongs over the projected to be firm turf oval here at Victoria Park in Adelaide,  South Australia.  A field of twelve older distaff runners representing four continents will vie for the winner’s share of the $375,000 purse up for grabs.  The oddsmaker seems to have had a tough time on this one;   half the field is held at odds from 9/2 to 6/1.  Favoritism falls to the only prior G2 winner in the field,  Stars Shadow,  who faces a trio of G3 winners and a quartet of grade/group placed contestants.  Let’s take a look at the runners in post position order and see if we can spot the winner of a very competitive affair.

    LAWLESS  INSOMNIAC              IRE          winona         5/1
.
.
Heading up the post parade is this Lawman lady out of the sim-mare Lucco Never Sleeps (by Shamardal),  who comes off a resounding victory in the G3 The Very Fine Handicap at 11 furlongs,  notching a second consecutive 113 SP# in an off the pace run.  Bay four year old filly was 2nd in a 20 horse field residency stakes at this distance in one prior,  running out of ground late.  In previous try,  she flattened out to 3rd in a NW4x allowance at this route,  earning a 107 SP# while closer than usual to the early pace.  Stretch runner from the winona racing stables should be coming late, would benefit from a patient jockey ride. Contender.

    STARS  SHADOW                           IRE          eternity     9/2
.
.
Our morning line favorite is this bay four year old filly,  who took the G2 Horse Station Stakes at 9 furlongs last out,  grabbing a 112 SP# while never far off the leaders.  Son of Sea The Stars,  out of the G3 winning sim-mare Moon Shadow (by Giant’s Causeway),  was a late surging 3rd in the G2 The Black Dahlia at 8.5 panels one before that,  earning a 110 SP# from well back in the pack.  One before that she was an even 4th in the G1 The Empire Rose at a mile,  getting a 105 SP#.  Consistent,  versatile runner from the eternity barn should be in the picture at the wire. Solid contender.

LAW  AND  CHAOS                         IRE          gbeurope     24/1
.
.
Owner/trainer gbeurope sends out the only mare of this group,  a roan five year old who had a troubled four year old season after a promising sophomore year.  Scratch-bred daughter of Dalakhani (by Danzig),  was last in final three starts of 2014,  after finishing next to last in [rior try.  Also returns off a five month vacation;  should need one to get back into the swing of things;  oddsmaker is very generous at only 24/1.

    KRIS  WEST                                        SAF          safimport     12/1
.
.
Scratch-bred Western Winter lass (by Kris S.) comes off a fair fourth in the G3 The Saint George at 9 furlongs,  earning a 102 SP# .  In her previous try,  this bay four year old filly won the  Whispering Sound listed stakes at this trip,  garnering a 110 SP# in a middle of the pack run.  One back of that she fell victim to an early pace duel and faded to 3rd in the Tsrs Inner Child listed at 10 panels,  scoring a 108 SP#.  Versatile safinport trainee can benefit from a crafty jockey ride,  can surprise on top try.

    AKA  MANTO                                       KY          mogul         5/1

Bay four year old filly took the G3 The Saint George last out at 9 furlongs with Kris West in her dust,  grabbing a 105 SP# in a stalking trip.  Scratch-bred Lookin At Lucky lady (by Lyphard),  wired the Black Pearls listed stakes at 8.5 panels one back of that,  earning a 107 SP#.  In her previous try she settled for 2nd after leading from the start in the Her Ballots listed at 9 furlongs,  scoring a 110 SP#.  Mogul runner should be involved in the early pace,  just may go on with it if conditions suit.  Co-co-second choice of the oddsmaker.

    WHITE  SHADOW                          KY          rocket32     6/1

.
Making her 2015 seasonal debut is this More Than Ready miss out of the G3 winning,  half-million dollar earning sim-mare Gentry.  She capped off a successful sophomore season when  she stormed through the straight to snare the G3 High Altitude at 10 furlongs,  snatching a 110 SP#.  One back of that she was 2nd best in the G1 Best Of Rome,  also at 10 panels,  scoring a 111 SP#.  Her prior run was a fast closing 2nd in the G1 Prix Opera,  again at 10 furlongs,  earning a 105 SP#.  Runner from the rocket32 racing operation has won at this distance;  should be gaining late,  may get there.

    SECRET  KAYF                                   ENG          bigvalley     85/1

Late to the races bay four year old filly makes her fifth career start.  Last out,  she was 2nd best in a NW3L allowance at 10 furlongs,  earning a 97 SP# in a stalking trip.  One back of that she romped in a NW2L at two miles,  posting a 90 SP#.  Scratch-bred Kayf Tara lady (by Affirmed).  She broke her maiden in one prior at 6 furlongs, with a 76 SP#.  Improving sort will need to improve significantly to have any impact with these;  owner/trainer bigvalley takes a shot.

    POLISHED  ROCKS         AUS         arsprize     13/1

Fastnet Rock filly,  out of the stakes winning sim-mare Polished Silver (by Silver Train) won a restricted allowance at 8.5 furlongs last out,  grabbing a 110 SP# in a middle of the pack run.  Bay four year old was a stretch running 2nd in the Mieces To Pieces listed stakes at a mile one back of that,  earning a 104 SP#.  One prior was an even 3rd at 7 panels in the Rorm Spectacle listed,  posting a 103 SP#.  Runner from the arsprize racing group makes initial grade/group effort here,  and stretches out a furlong further,  can be in the mix with repeat of last out performance.

Based on the stakes winning sim he-mare Sufferthorn (by Mr. Sidney)  this New Approach four year old bay filly won The Wall listed stakes at this route last out,  scoring a 107 SP#  in a middle of the pack effort.  Her previous try was a stalking score in a state-bred open allowance at 9 panels,  earning a 106 SP#.  One back of that she was a fair 4th in the Tsrs Inner Child listed at 10 furlongs,  getting a 106 SP#.  Stupor1 charge should be in the second flight,  will look to out jump the deep closers in search of her third straight win.

    KRIS  ROCK             IRE          skyenclosure     6/1

Owner/trainer skyenclosure sends out this bay four year old filly off a rousing victory in the Alberta Gold listed stakes at this trip,  notching a 112 SP# in a just off the pace run.  In her previous try,  this scratch-bred Rock Of Gibraltar lass (by Kris S.)  was an even 3rd in the G3 He’s A Charmer at 9 furlongs,  earning a 104 SP#.  In one prior she just missed holding on for the win in the G1 QE2 Challenge at 9 panels,  garnering a 113 SP# in a stalking run.  Should be sitting close to the early pace in this affair,  another looking to beat the closers to the punch,  but she did not fare well in only try over this strip.
