ZYR Heads To Finger Lakes To Take On 11 In The Cayuga Lake Special

Cayuga Lake Special | New York | Grade/Group I | Sunday, March 22nd, 2015

3:00 p.m. EST | Purse- $750,000 | 16 Furlongs | Fast Dirt | 12 Entrants

K’S CASSIUS CLAY(1) steps into this one after racing very well in his past 4 races. Though he has closed late in his 3 past races (all of which were graded stakes) he has been barely off the mark in them all, finishing 2nd. Trainer latinlover believes that the switch to K Ledwith from brother rider S L Ledwith will finally get the job done. The son of GIANT’S CAUSEWAY just grabbed his five hundred thousandth dollar, and should do very well in his this race, with odds at 8-1.

CLOAK AND DAGGERS(2) hasn’t been himself lately. The son of PIVOTAL races with odds of just 6-1, despite being unable to win a NW2 in 6 months allowance last time out. That was the day the horse turned 6 however, and his age may be catching up with him. Fairhaven3 thinks that this horse still has a few good races left in him however, seeing as they put him in this one.

KISMET AND KARMA(3) is the longest shot on the board after finishing 3rd by 20 in his last stake performance. He did look better after a 3 month layoff though, winning an allowance. MIESQUE’S SON’s son is questionable in this one though, being unable to take home a stakes purse in his 21 starts for lawdro3.

OUTBACK BORON(4) has also been racing poorly recently, not finishing within 8 lengths of the leader in his past 2 starts. The son of SMART STRIKE seems to race better at smaller distances, having never won a race above 12 furlongs. Greynomad thinks that he can do well in this one though, so we’ll see if a shift in training will help him.

MOONBEAMS(5) races very well above 12 furlongs, and in the longest distance of the son of TIZNOW’s career, it could be the opportunity 9pm has been looking for. I think that this horse will do very well come Sunday perhaps even taking home the lion’s share of the purse come Sunday, with a great price of 9-1.

HIT N MISS(6) has been racing well since dirtriot moved him up to 12 furlongs, winning every start above this distance, except his last one in the G2 class. It’s understandable that the son of MEDAGLIA D’ORO was overwhelmed by the competition in that class, and hopefully he will come back to reality in this big G1 start, at odds of 8-1.

WISENED DAN(7) just barely lost in his last start, but you could blame the jockey for pushing him too hard early, which is evident in the form. This won’t be so today, as arguably the best rider in the world, T Ace will get the ride on the son of BERNARDINI. Stcselur trained him well, never finishing less than second above 9 furlongs. He should race well this time, at 8-1 odds.

DANBAWI(8) stays in New York, after his impressive performance at Aqueduct in the Big Apple G1. He won easily in the Molson Export 3 starts back, and tried 16 furlongs next time, winning just as easily in that one. He couldn’t get there in time in the Big Apple, but with the distance extension this time, I see no reason the DUBAWI offspring couldn’t win this time. Racing for xpletives2, this horse should race well at 8-1.

BREWSTER(9) has been closing well recently, but no cigar in his past 3. The son of AMERICAIN is eligible to improve this time, with more room to close at a longer distance. This however, is the horses first start in America, ironically. Will jet lag effect the cheapster trained horse? If not, he looks good at odds of 10-1.

FACE OF WAR(10) is another horse which is off to a poor start in 2015. The PIVOTAL stallion was out of it by 20 lengths in The Buckeye Stayer two races ago, finishing 7th. He did finish second in a stake last time, but lost it by getting caught, so I think it would do better at the shorter distance. However, plano will give him another shot at 16 in this one, at odds of 13-1.

MONT AH TABAI(11) snapped out of his losing streak last time in a NW3y allowance, giving dannejaka3 enough confidence to put him back into a graded stakes. The MONTJEU horse doesn’t have good record in a G1, finishing at least 12 lengths behind in each start. Semi-regular rider R Whisper gets the ride, perhaps increasing the 10-1 shot’s chances.

ZYR(12) is arguably the best marathoner in the world at the moment. The DUBAWI horse came within a length of the Breeders Bowl Dirt Marathon 3 starts back. After that, he romped away to a four length victory in the Big Apple. He dropped down, and took the New Orleans Stayer. He’ll get F Gossett back, who rode him in the Marathon and Geaux Saints (which he also won by 2 1/2). He shouldn’t disappoint super10 in this one.

MY SELECTIONS

1- ZYR
2- WISENED DAN
3- DANBAWI
4- K’S CASSIUS CLAY
