Epsom Oaks Preview

Hello everybody and welcome to Epsom for what is sure to be a great days racing for the Epsomdowns residency, 4 races of outstanding quality the Epsom oaks, The Epsom Derby, The Middlepark 2yo and The Newmarket gold cup to be ran at the other track. First up is the Epsom oaks which is an owner restricted allowance to be ran over a mile on firm turf for $50,000 in prize money. So Let’s take a look at the form guide and see if we can find a winner.

ZABEEL(NZ) MR. PROSPECTOR LASHKARI(GB) 8/1
This lady has been running all sorts of distances of late she has been running anywhere from 8-12 furlongs. 3 starts back she came from just off the speed to win by 2 ¼ lengths at starter level then ran a nice 3rd over 9 furlongs before being stepped up to face the top staying fillies over 12 furlongs in The GARTH’S HONORS Special-Stk where she was just could not stay. K Bedwell is in the saddle and will be looking to turn his dismal season around. I’m looking elsewhere.

CAHILL ROAD CARNEGIE(IRE) HABITAT 9/2
Here is a genuine stakes runner who won over this distance at stake level about 12 months back. Of late she has been struggling to find top form as her last 2 races both ran over 6 ½ furlongs have produced only a 4th and a 5th will the distance change be fruitful we will have to wait and see. The big question will the shagadelic one Austin Powers be able to ride the horse hard enough to get the win. If you watched his movies you would say Yeah Baby. But I’m saying no. Place chance.

CHARGE FORWARD (AUS) LITTLE CURRENT RUBITON(AUS) 7/1
After a horrible ran 3 starts back where she recorded a speed figure of just 17 3 runs back Frosting has come back in great form winning an allowance coming from just off the speed then she stepped up to stakes level and ran a very nice 4th with a speed figure of 89.
This is her first start over a route distance so there is a query as to weather she will run out the trip. Austin Powers alter ego Mike Myers takes the ride and he is in career best form winning 13.5 % of his races this year. I rate her and each way chance.

INDIAN RIDGE(IRE) ALZAO SUPER CONCORDE 9/1
This blood sucker is the value runner of the field and my top tip. She came back from 9f on dirt to run 8f on turf last start in the NEWMARKET 1000 GUINEAS — Owner Restricted-Alw and ran a very good 3rd to BEYER and GLITTER NET. I think that form will be a good guide to this race. I believe if jockey R Harzheim who is the best at the track (23.6% this year) will sit a fraction closer to the lead and that will prove to be the difference. Although she is an outsider at 9/1 I think putting your money on her would be a wise move.

DIXIELAND HEAT BET BIG ASCOT KNIGHT 6/1
Strange Name for a filly, First start over the routs for this filly who has been in good form of late with a win and 2 3rds over 7 furlongs in allowance company but all of those runs were on dirt. She has been running good speed figures for this class of horse of late (low 90’s) but she failed badly on the turf 4 starts back. T Nugent takes the mount which in my estimation improves the horse’s chances but I can’t see her winning unless she shows dramatic improvement on the green stuff.

SPECTACULAR LOVE BOLD RUCKUS CURE THE BLUES 9/1
This nice little filly by Spectacular love has been racing well as she has 2 wins and a 2nd from her last 4 starts but the trainer oggerz is still trying to figure where to put her and what her best distance is. Her only router came at the end of her 2yo campaign where she ran a 2 length 5th. 1 good thing she has going for her is rider/singer David Bowie is in his Golden Years and racing very well unfortunately I think she is a little out of her class.

MINESHAFT SADLER’S WELLS HALO 5/1
Her is a nice BP earner for the scoobzilla stable who has had 4 runs since winning a maiden by 3 lengths and all have been at allowance level and she has came in the top 5 on each occasion. She is at her 8 furlongs running sp’s in the mid 80’s. Scoob has managed to gain the services of S Wylan who is ridding a career best year with a (14.7%) winning strike rate. Although she is only 5/1 I think she will need a 90 to have a chance but she may run a place.

CAPE CANAVERAL STORM BOOT EL PRADO(IRE) 8/1
Last start winner of the NEWMARKET 1000 GUINEAS — Owner Restricted-Alw where she held off a spirited challenge from GLITTER NET to score by a nose. That race was a massive improvement from the race before that where she failed dismally to finish 8 ¼ lengths from the winner, and I think the form will hold up again today. T Liverson another jockey in career best form takes the ride but I don’t see any more improvement from last start. If she runs the way she did last start she will be competitive but I think others have more room for improvement. But she has a chance just the same.

GLITTERMAN FIRST ALBERT THE MINSTREL 3/1
Here is the favorite in morning betting. Last start she was fantastic in defeat raising a late challenge to get piped by a nose by BEYER another 10 yards would have told a different story. Before that she ran a nice 2nd in Allowance Company but what impresses me most is she ran a close up 6th in Grade 3 Company the start before that. But the big Question to be asked of the Olympic stables is did the forget to enter the jockey selections because there are a lot better out there than L Risquez All the same I think she will improve from last start and is the main danger for LADY VAMPIRE(IRE).

SIRIUS SLEW (CAN) KAHYASI(IRE) TAKE ME OUT 86/1
This filly is still a maiden and has had just 1 start strangely enough in allowance company where she ran 2nd to stake winner. FAIR WEATHER FAITH(GB) on the dirt.. She is very much a bargin breed and I suspect tromos has thrown her in the deep end to see what she can do. And who can blame him as a change in surface might be what she needs. Jockey H Karma is going to need just that a lot of karma cos this aint going to win. But you never know.
