Field of seven set to go in the Boulder Prospector Bonanza
It’s another one of those beautiful Saturday afternoon’s here in California and the big crowd is set to watch the co-feature, The Boulder Prospect Bonanza Stakes. The race, for fillies and mares three years old and up, will be run at a distance of nine furlongs over the fast dirt track. The winner will get her share of the $105,000 purse. Just about any one of these could win, so let’s take a closer look at the field.
PP Horse(odds) Trainer Jockey(win%)
1 Big Ugly(5/1) jrogue O Brim(8%)
Impressive looking daughter out of Summer Squall has only finished off the board just once in ten lifetime starts, that being at a distance almost twice as much as she’ll try here. Will need some kind of quick pace up front as she comes from way out of the clouds in the stretch. Last time out Ugly finished second in the Turentine Ash Handicap, finishing a close second to graded placed runner Filet Cheval. Jrogue stretches her out here today and that may be just what the doctor orders. Another angle you might want to look at here is that she has run EXTREMELY well over this surface, never finishing more than 1 3/4 lengths behind the winner in four starts.
2 Oppenheimer(IRE)(3/1) mike7farms F Gossett(23%)
This four year old by Galileo is coming in to this race on a four race win streak. A briliant move by mike7farms picking this one up at the claim box for $100,000 back in November of last year. Since then she’s done nothing but win five of nine races, only finishing off the board once. In her last two stakes races she’s faced the classy filly, Lady Cynthia, beating her both times. Since then Lady Cynthia came back to win a stakes race overseas.
3 Natalia Spirit(8/1) carlos517 C Mecklenburg(9%)
Four year old out of Distant View has just one win in twentyone lifetime starts. Carlos517 enters her here today after she ran a 102 LTO. She’s been consistent at finishing second this year while facing allowance type horses around the track. Natalia has also been running at east coast and midwest tracks, so maybe the California sun will do her some good (California dreamin’ won’t hurt either).
4 Fall Classic(9/2) fatattack M Staples(21%)
Four year old Deputy Minister filly just missed by a head LTO in a thrilling stetch run of the G3 Vogue Handicap run here last month. In that race she faced (and got beat) by pleistocene epoch, who she again faces here. Fatattack will be another in here who will hoping for a quick pace as his horse like to come from way out of it.
5 Wind Song(14/1) squirrel4 Mo Turner(8%)
We’ll see another offspring of Deputy Minister here today, Wild Song will be making her first stakes apperance since she was a two year old. She comes in to this race off of an allowance win upstate. Front running filly will be gunning out of the gate and trying to last to the finish.
6 I Dream Of Debbie(4/1) kyladar4a D L Jones(6%)
Four year old sired by Chief Seattle finished third LTO in the Mill Control Memorial stakes. Two races back she finished second in the G3 Bringing Up The Rear Classic, losing to Ticky N Clever (number 28 ranked filly). Debbie is another who goes for the lead and tries to do everything she can to hold on.
7 Pleistocene Epoch(5/2) nextbonus N Bonus(15%)
The post time favorite is this number 26 ranked filly out of Capote. In her last three races she’s faced grade 1,2,and 3 competition. LTO Epoch won the G3 Vogue Handicap by a hard fought head over Fall Classic, who’ll she’ll face again today. In the G1 My Girl Handicap (also raced here) she ran into a monster in Swift Kick (ranked number 1 in division) finishing fourth 5 1/4 lengths back. In the G2 Eviscerator Stakes she finished second to Toy Maker (ranked 9) by 1/4 of a length. N Bonus will have her sitting just off the lead where she likes to be.
The Toss Outs: I just don’t see Natalia Spirit fitting in with any of these. Still eligable for allowance N2L, just way outclassed. Wind Song is also outclassed in this spot. That was a nice win last out but it was against just five horses and a restriction of CPU value of *600.
In With A Chance: I Dream Of Debbie has al the chances in the world winning this just as long as she dosen’t get in a speed duel with Wind Song. That being said, I don’t see it happending. Those two will get hooked up and take all chances away for her. Fall Classic ran her heart out here last month, improving her speed figures by 15 points. She’s a canidate to bounce off of that effort and I’ll think she will.
Should Be There: How can you find any faults in a horse who’s only finished off the board once in ten races, you can’t. Big Ugly is begining to look very pretty standing in line cashing all those checks. Same goes for Oppenheimer who comes in with a four race win streak, still can’t see any faults. Unfortunatly for Big Ugly she gets a jock with only an 8% win percentage. Oppenhimer gets F Gossett whose 23% tops the jocks standings. Even with the top jock I don’t think there will be any horse in here who can match Pleistocene Epoch as I see her sitting just off the pace, running on cruise control, waiting for N Bonus to punch the gas and having her take off flying to the finish.
THE BET: $20.00 exacta 7/ 1,2
