We are here at Queensland Park watching some very successful young fillys. Five of the top 85 fillys are here and will be looking to move up the charts. The weatherman may not cooperate as there are showers predicted for the morning of the race which may throw a bit of a wrench into some of the trainers plans. Let’s take a look:

(SOUTHERN HALO x GONE WEST x SO BLESSED(ENG)) A beautiful light grey filly out of mare Our Centaur that has won 5 of her 13 races and over $300k. She comes off of a rather easy Stakes win last time out after trying to unsuccessfully stretch it out in the 8.5f Grade II Celine Stakes before that. She is still looking for that elusive first Graded win but has come very close a couple of times. Trainer SSJ4Vegeta thinks that the longer race may have built up her stamina some and may help here. She likes to come from behind so the inside post won’t help much here. She already has a win on an off track and that won’t hurt.

(MILWAUKEE BREW x CONQUISTADOR CIELO x A.P. INDY) An amazing eight wins in only fifteen tries puts this filly in the upper crust of the the three year old grass ladies. She has won on an off track so the raindrops probably won’t bother her either. That win was earlier this year in the GI Equinics. She is nearing $1 million in earnings and has been guided nicely through the ranks by trainer Biznes with no worse than a third place so far this year. She will be guided by jockey Phillips who has had his struggles this year.

(ALDEBARAN x MR. PROSPECTOR x DANEHILL) This chestnut filly seems to like a little shorter distances than this but trainer SantaCruz3 feels that she can handle the extra distance. This could be her first outing at an off track and it will be interesting to see how she responds. She is in the more than capable hands of jockey Cox and he is having his best year of his three at this track. This filly is ranked in the top 20 among the sprinter but it may or may not translate well at this distance on a soft surface.

(STORM CAT x SEEKING THE GOLD x A.P. INDY) Sixteen of this chestnut filly’s seventeen races have ended up in the top two at the finish. After a nice allowance campaign on dirt, trainer Dagrims2 moved her over to the grass earlier this year where she has really flourished. In her five Stakes races on the turf, one Graded she has two wins and three seconds. She also has shown nice improvement over the first half of the year and Dagrims2 would really like to see her move up the ladder here. Her only off track was on dirt but she had a nice second place finish by a head.

(BEAT HOLLOW (GB) x LEAR FAN x ALLEGED) Amazing improvement this year for this filly as she has gone from a disappointing Equinics to speeds in the high nineties and has competed nicely in Stakes races. She seems to like seven furlongs the best and hopefully this extra half won’t bother her. She has also shown a preference to stay out of the mud which could hurt here here as well. Add to those facts that jockey Carpenter is not having one of his best years and you have to feel that trainer Singis has everything stacked against him in this race.

(ESSENCE OF DUBAI x DYNAFORMER x MILL REEF) This filly out of broodmare Limp Chimp has been all over the board with races from sprints to twelve furlongs her last two with races on both surfaces, off tracks and different classes. Trainer UglyMonkey is still trying to figure out exactly what she likes and hopes that this race will help in that regard. She is up against some tough challengers here which will multiply her task, especially with Missen in the irons as he has been struggling mightily bringing them home this year.

(FUSAICHI PEGASUS x NUREYEV x GREEN DESERT) Although nine of thirteen in the money is not bad, this filly out of broodmare Red Inferno has shown slower improvement than trainer Correction had originally hoped. She broke a 90 SPF last time out for the first time but just barely and she will have to ratchet it up a notch to compete here. Pierce is in the saddle and is known for his work with these young fillies and will get the most out of the ride. Correction has a really nice win percentage so he certainly knows what he is doing.

A fairly even race with some really nice looking fillies, I like NEEDS MORE COWBELL to finish fifth because of the chance of rain. I may regret this but I worry about the distance for LA SANTA CRUZ so I’m putting her fourth. STORM HUNTER may get her wish with the rain and could finish anywhere in the top three. I’m putting her third. CROSSLAND DRIVE could very easily win this race but I see her holding on for second by a neck. The young lady that is ready to make a statement to the racing world this week is KISS OR KILL . She’s on her game and the off track shouldn’t bother her.
