Go With the Flow

While many of the early high flying two year olds of last season are dropping by the wayside, Crypto Flow sent a loud and clear message for all to comprehend this weekend. He was a top two year old, and he’s a top three year old. Since winning his first Grade 1 as a juvenile, Crypto Flow had greeted the judge just once in eight starts, and that in an ungraded stakes, but two close up graded results in his most recent races had him primed for a return to his peak, and there was no better way to achieve it than against a field containing half of the top twenty in his peer group.

Toxicsuperfreakout, as he had in Mexico two weeks ago, flew the gates and led clearly. Remember Morgadio did not have the toe to pressure him this time, and was forced to sit back outside the leader. Mr AP Cat BG gained a lovely sit behind the leader while Chapman, allowing a furlong and a half to settle, then guided Crypto Flow across to sit outside him in fourth place. Most trainers and jockeys appeared to have decided that mid-field was the place to be, and as a result, a wall of horses followed, comprising Super Coverup with the advantage of the rail, Northern Blast, at the head of the group but trapped wide, Fly’s Motivator, Big Stud well placed one off the fence, Moneygrowsontrees surprisingly prominent, Wylde Cat and Astronomical Unit caught wide. Wonderboy Eamon, Terrordega and Depravity were content to sit back and await their opportunities. At the half way mark the race became serious. Toxicsuperfreakout was under pressure, Remember Morgadio was moving up stylishly, Crypto Flow making solid ground, and Moneygrowsontrees had his supporters extremely confident as he moved forwards. Into the stretch and Remember Morgadio waved the white flag. Crypto Flow had his measure and Moneygrowsontrees was still coming, though not as strongly as expected, while Super Coverup had burst through on the rails and looked a real chance. Cryto Flow worked home strongly and although Moneygrowsontrees continued to narrow the gap, he never looked likely to close it as the wire approached. In the end the winner had three quarters of a length to spare. Super Coverup held on with his solid close for a clear third, beaten three lengths but still registering a triple digit speed figure

Terrrordega was the real surprise packet. In a welcome return to earlier he, along with Depravity, fifth registered the fastest final sectionals, flying home from the rear to collect the consolation checks.

Northern Blast ran an even race throughout and looked likely to share in the spoils until the final bounds.

Remember Morgadio continued his record. Lead and win. Don’t lead and don’t win.

Fly’s Motivator raced midfield throughout.

Toxicsuperfreakout used too much energy ensuring he led.

Mr AP Cat BG was handy early but couldn’t maintain the run

Big Stud centrally placed early, then faded.

Wonderboy Eamon never featured

Wylde Cat was a disappointing last

Flow Futuristic is a stakeswinning mare whose three wins from just 22 starts earned connections over $130,000 and who, like her offspring, was raced exclusively by kyclocker. Crypto Flow is the dam’s first produce, while his two year old half brother, Sin City Saint, by Saint Liam has yet to flatter in two runs. This was Crypto Flow’s fifth win from thirteen starts and elevates his earnings to above $800,000. He ran the 7 furlongs in 1.21.8 and returned a speed rating of 105. Ranked # 2 in his class before the race, he retains that ranking after it.
