Six Undefeated Fillies Vie for the Crown!

The Butterfly Futurity Stakes
Grade III
Six Furlongs on Fast Dirt
$150,000
Fillies and mares, 2 years old

Way down South in the land of cotton, we are getting ready to run down the Butterfly Futurity for young two year old fillies here in Georgia. It is always fun watching these young ladies and seeing what they can do and who will start to take control this two year old season. There are no less than six undefeated fillies in the race and there will be no more than one when we finish. It should be fun so let’s take a look:

1 – HELISHA’S DANCER ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
19/1ElkCreek10.3% M.Beachy 11% 71.0 67.4N/A

This Manila filly was in a wild stakes race last time out where she finished fifth in a photo for first place. Five across at the line! She had a nice SPF of 71 there and looks to be a challenger at this distance which she seems to prefer. I’m sure that trainer ElkCreek doesn’t want to see a replay of last outings finish and would rather see his nice young filly get across the line clearly in first place. She has a chance here and is in the capable hands of Beachy holding the reins.

2 – GRAND BEAU ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
15/1TVJack12.2% M.Terrell 10% N/A N/AN/A

Lots of questions here as this Grand Reward filly has won the only race she was in but it was a maiden and at a much shorter distance. Is she ready for the Stakes circuit at six furlongs. That is half the fun of these juvenile races as we along with trainer TVJack will just have to wait and see. She has an inside post and appears to like jumping out to the lead so that should match up well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a nice improvement on her 66 SPF and see a contender in the race here.

3 – LIL SUMTIN FOR YA ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
14/1CashCall10.9% D.Post 15% 74.7 72.270

I love the name of this big brown Quinton’s Gold filly and I like what I see so far in her young career as well. Nice consistent 70s on her SPFs and a fifth last time out in the Vermont Juvenile Filly GII. Trainer CashCall has been bringing her along nicely and this would be a great time for a breakout race and show the world that she is ready. They have jockey Post in the irons and he has had a great campaign this year and is known for his work with youngsters. Could be a formidable pair.

4 – RAHY WORLD ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
8/1NYWinger24.6% R. Wisniewski 18% 75.4 73.515

Here you go, how about an undefeated Rahy offspring after three races? I wonder why the Morning Line isn’t giving this pretty chestnut filly more credit for this race. She has certainly done everything that trainer NYWinger has asked of her. She seems to be able to come from either mid-pack or way off the pace to fly down the stretch and get the job done. She also has one of the hottest jockeys at the track in Wisniewski so I may have to put a few shekels on this lady at those odds.

5 – D LION SLEEPS G) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
12/1JgJg17.0% B.Cobble 4% 74.6 74.6N/A

This filly by Lionhearted out of broodmare Out the Manta is just a close second away from being three for three in her young career. Her wins include a Stakes win last time out in the Second Storm Stakes where she proved she can go the extra distance with a nice speed figure as well. Trainer JgJg knows that this filly could be something special and is really looking forward to this race to see if it proves out. I worry a little about having Cobble in the saddle as he has been stone cold this year.

6 – WOETTE’S DESPERADO(IRE) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
11/1Titje17.9% .Adams 7% 69.8 69.8N/A

This nicely bred filly by Desert King out of Darshaan Bold has won her only race and did it in handy fashion easing up at the end and still winning easily. That win was at this six furlong distance which bodes well for trainer Titje who knows how to get them saddled and around the oval. Her speed figure didn’t quite hit 70 but with a little bump in improvement she should contend here.

7 – TRICKY ZIP) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
17/1Woodsmen19.4% V.Simpson 5% 69.5 64.816

Another Stakes winner here as this filly by City Zip out of Operetta won the Lady Arc Handicap last time out. It was a short field and she went wire to wire easily defeating the field. She seems to like the extra distances even though she is a frontrunner. Trainer Woodsmen has a nice record and will probably be trying to stretch her out some as the year goes on. She is now the number 16 ranked filly at this distance and should make for a tough challenge for some of the favorites.

8 – KATHERINEOFARAGON ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
10/1Gipper716.7% C.Sundwall 6% 72.9 70.5N/A

Another name that I really like for this filly, of course I am a LOTR fan. I am also a fan of this High Yield out of King of Spain II filly but she is really looking for a breakout race here. Trainer Gipper7 knows that this lady can do even better than she has been and may be able to show it here. She is a late finisher and jockey Sundwall needs to kick her into gear maybe just a bit earlier than she has been. She may be one of those late developers too.

9 – HIGH REWARD ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
17/1SugarHill23.7% V.Shinkle 18% 69.6 69.6N/A

A Grand Reward out of High Time filly that is also undefeated fits right in here with all of the other top challengers. She went right out and won her first race by more than a length and showed trainer SugarHill that she is something special. Her Mom was a multiple Stakes winner as a two year old and she would like to follow in those footsteps. She has Shinkle holding the reins and he has been red hot this year, nearly doubling his average win percentage.

10 – REDOUTE’S NINER(AUS) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
5/1JockeyMax28.1% I.Centers 10% 77.6 77.6N/A

This Aussie bred filly is yet another undefeated lady that wants to show the world what she is made of. She sure didn’t mess around in her debut with a sizzling 77.6 SPF easily outlasted the field from the front. Trainer JockeyMax seemingly has a young horse in every two year old race that I write up and must be building quite a stable. When you have nearly a 30% win percentage I guess you will have few in the graded races! Looks like this could be another good looking filly.

11 -BATTLE CRUISER ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
5/1KYClocker219.5% F.Head 8% 79.2 75.7319

This beautiful creamy filly is by Unbridled’s Song out of War Ritual and has one of the fastest SPFs going in the two year old crop with a 79 last time out winning for the first time after a near miss in her previous outing. Trainer KYClocker2 is another that has a nice crop of two year olds going and this one is no exception. She loves to come from the back and should have a few frontrunners to run down this race. She should have a chance here.

12 – GONE WESTERN ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
7/1Alphabetso10% S.Chung 15% 75.3 71.2N/A

trainer Alphabetso has to scratching his head after his filly won her first race in classy fashion then took a big step back, losing 8 points on her SPF and finishing a disappointing third in a four horse field at the same distance. There have been huge gaps between races and you have to wonder if Alphabetso is pointing this filly more toward her three year campaign. Jockey Chung has a super record this year and will probably wring everything this filly can give out for this race.

13 – THUNDER KATE ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
9/1Blitzers8.7% E.Legg 10% 69.0 69.0N/A

Another undefeated filly who has won her one and only. This beautiful light grey girl is by Maria’s Mon out of Thundercat Too and went wire to wire in her debut. She is going against a stellar field here and the outside post won’t help her bid to get out front. This will be a good test for her and trainer Blitzers to show exactly what she is made of. Hopefully they will both come through with flying colors.

14 – J. CAESAR ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED AVG SPEEDRANK
10/1Peeps116.7% P. Christianson 5% 75.8 68.2N/A

If this Roman Ruler filly can improve as much from last race as she did from her first to her second, look out. She went from ninth to first and from a 60 SPF to close to a 76 SPF. I don’t know what trainer Peeps1 put in that feedbag but if he can duplicate it I know a lot of trainers that will line up to get some. She seemed to like the six furlongs better and also running from the front instead of the back. That latter point may be tough from the outside post but after last races results, I won’t put anything past this filly.

Morning Line = 10-11-12-4-13
Yoss Tipsheet = 11-10-4-3
Paz Picks = 10-11-4-3
This race is almost impossible to pick with six undefeated fillies and a couple of once defeateds that look extremely tough. I like LIL SUMTIN FOR YA to finish fourth. She could easily win but I’m putting RAHY WORLD in third on my card. A couple of fillies that sizzled last time out are on top of my card. I like BATTLE CRUISER to just get nipped at the wire by REDOUTE’S NINER . who will be our winner.

Good luck to all runners!
