Z2 Homer To Try Stakes Company!

South Korea– The $40,000 Young Fern Stakes will feature seven older mares traveling nine furlongs across the manicured South Korean lawn.  The weather is expected to hold out and the turf should be firm.  The hometown heroine will be making her stakes debut.

At 2/1 is the narrow favorite, Bella Figura.  Z. Graves is aboard.  The Kingmambo mare has amassed a cool $2,058,768 in 43 starts on the green.  She is looking for her 20th career win.  She has proven herself against much tougher in grade company and the drop to this level should set her up for that 20th victory.  Late closer will need to move quicker than usual.

Dynahigh (IRE) is 3/1 under K. Hellestrae.  The Illinois based High Chapparal (IRE) mare has been knocking on the door as of late including a close up 4th last out.  Her trainer has been sounding off all week about how she will defeat the Homer and the Vixen (see below) but then quickly threw in a disclaimer about liking more ground.  Still, this mare has the pp’s to get this race.  We’ll see how she finishes Saturday as she will be up close early.

Shrewd Vixen, is 7/2 with M. Cooper.  Johannesburg mare comes out of the same Grade III race as Dynahigh (IRE) where she got the early jump and held on late for third.  Typically does her best work while on the lead and will try for that position here.  Was entered in race 4015 as first choice on the dirt, but scratched to try these.  Should get the early lead but the rest is up to the jock.

At 9/2 is the phenomenal Impulse Buy.  L. Johnson gets the nod.  South Korea’s favorite has an astounding record of 15: 12-0-1 with a measly $164,893 in the bank.  One would ask how this mare by Danzig keeps finding the 8.5F ALW – 17600 races at good ole Z2 for each start.  Not that it matters, but this mare strung 11 wins in a row before running out of racing room late in her last effort — a disappointing third.  Making her stakes debut against some pretty tough mares and loses her normal rider to Dynahigh (IRE).  Would think she isn’t good enough to face these but they are coming to her home course.

Merry Andrew is 6/1.  T. Dellenbach is in the irons.  This daughter of King Cugat has been flashing some good early speed recently.  She will have to out duel the Vixen to have a chance.  Not sure her 149 and change times will hold up against this field who are used to 148 finishes.

At 7/1 are Auror and A. King.  The Sadler’s Wells progeny is another front runner albeit she typically likes to lead in races 11F and up.  Again, will have to fight off two others who are probably faster than her.  Will need to really crank it up to compete as her previous times for this distance are considerably slower.

Answer The Bell (GB) is 19/1. F. Horning is in control.  This horse is not ready for this field.  Go back to NW4L please.
