Tribal Odyssey Stakes Claim as #1 Two Yr Old Filly
Fauster’s Juvenile Cup Stakes
Grade I
Six furlongs on Firm Turf
$400,000
Fillies and mares, 2 years old
Wow, what a horse race we saw at the Fauster’s Juvenile Cup here at Queensland Park this weekend. At the halfway point there were still 10 horses within a couple of lengths of the lead and it looked like anyone’s race. Two horses started to weave through the field and find their way past the leader to finish one-two though and they were BLOCK OF UNITS and our race winner TRIBAL ODYSSEY .
TRIBAL ODYSSEY is now two for two in fine fashion with a Grade I under her belt and over $259,000 in earnings already. The WAR CHANT x KINGMAMBO x THEATRICAL Filly is out of impressive broodmare JAW DROPPER who was quite a racer herself. She won seven Stakes races including four Graded Wins, three of which were GI’s. It looks like she has passed on the FAST genes to her daughter. Trainer KYClocker3 is truly excited about this young lady and well he should be. He knows how to bring home winners as evidenced by his 25 plus winning percentage. He also obviously has an affection for Sire WAR CHANT who has fathered not only TRIBAL ODYSSEY , but also two other horses in his stable including Graded Winner REBELLION. ODYSSEY has now moved to the top of the rankings at all three distances among two year old turf females.
The start of the race looked more like a chorus line than a horse race with six horses strung across the field high kicking their way to the lead. The nose of MADAM ALLY was the one that got that lead by a touch over POISON PIE and held onto it until the final strides of the race. Those two fought each other all the way to the wire where they finished third and fourth. Meanwhile BLOCK OF UNITS and TRIBAL ODYSSEY were biding their time, with the former clear back in 13th place and our winner stalking the leaders from a couple of lengths back. At the half, the two of them started picking off horses one by one and found that extra gear in the stretch that let them take the top two spots. As impressive as our winner was, BLOCK OF UNITS looked just as good and if the race had been a little longer who knows what would have happened. I hope that the two of them build a rivalry and go up against one another again as that would certainly be interesting.
It is now time for TRIBAL ODYSSEY to take a little time off and point toward more big races down the road. She looks like she is going to be heard from for a long time and has staked her claim as the one to beat in the two year old filly turf division.
Good luck to all runners!
