SPRINT ON TURF HIGHLIGHTS CARD

Six and one half furlongs
Firm Turf
$45,000
All horses, 4 years old and up

This race caught my attention since I once was an owner of the sim racer that this stakes event is named.  A field of seven will line up for the second running of this event at Ole’ North Track in North Carolina.

Fleet Making ran for a variety of owners in fifty eight starts.  Ten of those starts resulted in a photo in the winner’s circle.  A couple of those pictures have me standing that with a smile as board as Fleet’s rear.   MR. XYZ (some creative breeder for sure) won the inaugural running in 1:15 4/5 (6.5 f on grass).

As for the field for the running of the 2006 The FLEET MAKING Challenge:

Owner-

Jockey-

Odds

7/1

Cryptoclearance x Kingmambo

He likes to break quickly out of the gate, but has shown signs of tiring in the strides.  He is stakes-placed and ownership would like to see that status change with a victory.

PP2

hill and halo

Owner-

Scream

Jockey-

Odds

9/2

Danehill x Fappiano

Ships in from neighboring Virginia.  Won gate to wire in last outing.  Best finish in stakes competition is a third place (one length lose).

PP3

medieval cat

Owner

Hoofers

Jockey-

T Renfoe

Odds

18/1

Royal Cat x Fortunate Prospect

Out of one of Storm Cat’s lesser known offspring- ownership would like to erase his last three starts.  Prior to this stretch of poor runs, this six years old had responded well to a switch back to grass.  One has wonder if the demands of fifty seven starts is beginning to take it’s toll.

PP4

Owner-

Jockey-

C Clark

Odds

5/2

Theatrical(IRE) x Roo Art

Nice four year old that shows a lot of early speed, but has let the lead slip through his hands (I know hooves) in the stretch.  He comes in winless in sprint events, but ownership is hoping that he can ‘hold’ his speed in a shorter event.

PP5

Owner-

Decon

Jockey-

L Rein

Odds

5/1

Hennessy x Distant View

Appropriately, he has had a distant view of the winners in his last several starts.  Basically, 2006 has not been a good year for him.  After thirty-three starts on dirt, ownership has elected it is time for a change. They are hoping that this six years old will rebound to the green stuff with a bounce.

PP6

sittin in a tree g

Owner-

Medusa

Jockey-

K Naber

Odds

2/1

Dynaformer x El Gran Senor

Morning line favorite and has leading jockey on his back- one has to give him added attention.  He did not respond well in his last outing, but hung on for a third place finish.  That non winning performance stopped a small streak of two wins.  He likes to be in front, but this field has a lot of backstretch speed.

PP7

l. s. indy

Owner-

5moonfarms

Jockey-

Odds

9/2

A.P. Indy x Fappiano

Been close but no cigars in 2006.  He comes in with strong enough performances that he should not be overlooked.

This is a field of sprinters for sure.  Lots of early out of the gate speed, and many of these runners have had problems holding on to that speed for the complete trip.  SITTIN IN A TREE G has leading jockey and should be a real threat.  HILL AND HALO comes in off a nice run and could repeat.  L.S INDY will continue to be in the money but not a visitor to the winner’s circle.
