Stong Field Contests In Wyoming
(SP)Wyoming- The Senorita Eminent memorial is in the books and it was won by Queen Dominique(SAF) the first south African bred horse to enter a race in Wyoming stakes. She also bucked her trend of having a poor start and thus doing poorly. Maybe this is a start of a new page for her. She came out of the gates seventh of eight and then proceeded to run down the other racers. In the end she took the wire by a resounding two lengths. Dash Around also came from the back of the pace to add another place to her long list of them so far this year. Rounding out the field was Belle Of The Ball. She once again left the race with the inconsistent tag still well attached, even though she ran well for an off track.
Up this week is yet another turf run, the $60,000 Alyaffair(IRE) Memorial. It is a six and a half furlong sprint for horses four years or older. We have a strong field of eight, mostly closers, that have shown up for a go at the silver. It should be an interesting race to see the mad rush for the wire. Here are the entrants for this Saturday.
Izzaq Hollandia(IRE) entered by rosemont. It seems fitting there should be an Irish bred colt like this one in the race. This front runner started out the year with a bang and then kind of fell away to a whisper until recently. Last out was a strong effort reminiscent of last years runs and could be a fore warning of his return to form.
Xtremely Today entered by mrfu. This big square-headed horse comes in after a terrible day last time out. Maybe that shouldn’t have come as too big of a surprise. This closer has spent a career of putting together some impressive runs and then dumping in a clunker or two. Maybe stepping back on a little ground will bring out one of his good runs again.
Go For The Jugular entered by william38. Putting this horse in a claimer at the end of last season shook up the dark bay. He has run sparingly this season, but all have been strong runs. The midpacker has not faired well in the few stakes level races he has run, but the trainer believes his recent form deserves another shot.
Bill Person entered by flobarb2. It has been awhile since there has been an eight year old elder statesman racing in Wyoming. This chestnut was given up on early by his original owner sent to the fields where he languished for several years. It was there that his current trainer found him and saw something they liked. They bought him, put him in grass sprints and the rest is history as they say. The front runner may be getting tired legs, but is still able to stay with the younger horses.
Royal Smoker entered by luckyblue. This light brown horse comes in with the favored tag. He gets the nod for his two win streak, even if they have been in allowance company. This will be a strong test for the closer, as several of the racers in the field have been running just as well. His stakes level experience could really be the deciding factor on Saturday.
Silver Blues entered by kbear. Going from claiming ranks to stakes level seems like a big jump and that is just what this bay has done. The closer stays in Wyoming in the hopes that familiarity with the track will equate to success. He can put up the numbers to do well but it has been a long time since he has been challenged by stakes level competition and doing poorly at allowance level so far this year doesn’t bode well for him.
Rought Habbit‘ entered by rosie84. This elder statesman, prohibitive long shot, makes his return to racing on the American continent in years. It will also be his first run at stakes level and quite frankly, the trainer should have saved the entrance fee. He has struggled in claimers and has never even been in hailing distance to stakes level speeds. The new trainer must be hoping for a miracle. To bettors, save your $2.
Barb‘s Lazybones(GB). The last of our entries is this chestnut colt from Great Britain. He started out the season on a four win streak and has been struggling since. His last time out was a strong run but didn’t result in where he hoped to be. He is also a closer in a field of closers and having the wily veteran Vince Gannon in the irons could be to his advantage.
