THE EL MASRI STAKES in IOWA
Welcome to Iowa and the running of THE EL MASRI STAKES. It is a field of 7, 2 year old fillies and mares going six and one half furlongs on the fast dirt course. The race is for a purse of $35,000. Many of the entries only have a start or two but there are four undefeated horses in the field with all four owners wanting to keep that record. Here is the way I break down this feature race in Iowa.
Post #1 “The favorite”
SATAN’S WISH at 5/2 for owner Stormracin. A 2 year old Filly by (E DUBAI x CRIMSON SATAN x SECRETARIAT) has very good closing speed as shown in both of her 2 starts. She broke her maiden last out in Vermont posting a nice 72sp#, and coming back from over 2 lengths off the pace to win by 2 lengths. Running the extra half furlong here will be to a benefit for her.

DEADWOOD BLUES at 7/2 for owner Deadwood 66. A 2 year old filly by (SAARLAND x CURE THE BLUES x POLISH NUMBERS) is one of the 4 fillies in the field holding a perfect record. She ran Gate to wire breaking her maiden 1st time out with a 71sp# . Look for her to break from the gate sharply in this one as she has all the early speed in the field. She is jumping up to running 2 extra furlongs in a field with several closers in.

KIRBY’S LOST BUCK at5/1 for owner Kirby4jeep. She is the only ranked 2 year old in the field at 28th. She is also the only horse with previous stakes experience. A 2 year old filly by (LOST SOLDIER x BUCKAROO x RELAUNCH) likes to run near the front with the speed horses. She broke her maiden 1st time out in a owner restricted race in Idaho with a field of 5 posting a 60sp#. She also has two 2nd place finishes, one in with allowance company and the other with stakes. She is also adding another half furlong, which she may not like. She will be looking to add on to the $45,000 she has already earned.

HARLANS GRAND SLAM at 4/1 for owner Krstables. She is a 2 year old filly by (HARLAN’S HOLIDAY x GRAND SLAM x GEIGER COUNTER) that has broke her maiden in the 3rd time out. She likes to run from off the pace. She has posted a speed in the 70’s, which she will need to repeat to come up in this field. She ran from almost three lengths back to win by one last out. Again, the extra half furlong could benefit her here.

TRUE BLUE T at 7/1 for owner Highstable, has the top speed of the field. She is a 2 year old filly by (GIMMEAWINK x ALBERT THE GREAT x BLUE LAGOON) with a 1 for 1 record. She broke her maiden in a field of fourteen in West Virginia and posted a real nice 77sp#. Look for her to come from the back if she likes the distance. I have her picked as the winner in my program. I see her as being the filly to keep her unblemished record.

NAVRATILOVA at 19/1 for owner Sharp2912, is the long shot of the field. She is a 2 year old filly by (WIMBLEDON x STEINLEN(GB) x SUCHA PLEASURE) and broke her maiden the 1st time out. Winning by three quarters in West Virginia, she has a perfect record and goes off the long shot in here. You can not count her out as she should only improve the 64 sp# she put out the last time. She did run with the pace last outing, which that pace will be quicker here with these. I’d throw down a $500 to show on her.

MISS YOU HATE YOU at 3/1 for owner Sdmforlife. She is a 2 year old filly by (CAPE TOWN x WILD AGAIN x EASY GOER), which is my favorite breeding combo in this race. She has broke her maiden as a 1st time starter in Arizona with allowance company . She posted a 63sp# and was running away from the field down the stretch. She tacks on another furlong here and I can see her liking the extra distance.
Race summary is winning #5 True Blue T, Place #7 Miss Hate You, and for Show #2 Deadwood Blueswith the race having a beaten favorite of #1 Satan’s Wish. Good luck to all the owners in this event, and congrates on having some nice looking 2 year old fillies. Enjoy Meucci.
