It is way too easy to be distracted from watching these young fillies in this rising city of skyscrapers and money and lots of things to do but as a hard core horse junkie I was able to pull my self away to watch the morning workouts, whisper my way through the stables and pick your winners for thes Desert Filly scramble. Lots of good looking ladies so let’s take a look:

(SADLER’S WELLS x MR. PROSPECTOR x KALPHARD(FR)) One for one and with a nice SPF too. Was able to get her nose across the line a smidge before her competitor. That is a good sign for these youngsters when they are able to finish like that. Trainer BabyColt has been training well for this one. The inside post seems to be wasted as she will probably stalk the leaders.

(GHOSTZAPPER x METFIELD x CAUCASUS) My very first writing on a heralded Ghostzapper offspring is this nice looking filly who is just a bit over a length from being undefeated in two races. She came in second last time out after winning her maiden and came from a long way back to do that. Looks like a strong finisher and trainer MarsAttack has Cassell on the reins and his 16 years of experience may be just what this young filly needs.

(OFFLEE WILD x SEEKING THE GOLD x AFFIRMED) Chestnut filly that improved by leaps and bounds every time out. She had a wild ride last time, finishing fourth but just a head off of the win. That race is worth taking a look at with five horses within a neck and another within a quarter. Whew! Loves3 would like to have that one back as his filly looked to have it locked up until the final stride. The inside post will help this lead monger save ground and may be the stride she needs.

(SYMBOLI KRIS S x IN REALITY x DR. FAGER) Never finished worse than third in her three races but none of them were what I would call inspired. Trainer TogaBurt needs to find a way to light a fire under this girl as she looks like she just needs to put it all together in one race to get things going. Jockey Alton has the experience but has never exactly over achieved either. It will be interesting to see if TogaBurt can get this duo going in the right direction.

(GHOSTZAPPER x CARSON CITY x BUCKPASSER) Another Ghostzapper offspring and this girl definitely seems to be going in the right direction. She has won both her previous starts in easy and impressive fashion coming from off the lead to finish them off in the stretch. Harmon is up in the irons and is one of the best jockeys at this track. With the guidance of trainer Steller, this could be a team that could be very hard to beat here. I’m looking for them to surely hit the board.

(PEACE RULES x FORTY NINER x GONE WEST) This well bred filly looked like a world beater in her first and only race. She came from way off the pace to easily breeze by the field and win going away with a super quick 74 SPF. Trainer Wix has to be ecstatic with this one and is looking forward to this race to see if she improves or has a slight bounce back. I’m betting on the former and even a slight improvement should be enough to carry her to the winner’s circle.

(SMARTY JONES x MONTJEU (IRE) x KRIS S.) It’s too bad that this filly had a 61 SPF instead of a 60 or she would have had a matched set of 50, 60 and 70 and that would truly be enough to make trainer SteveToga absoloutley crazy. This youngster has been all over the board and who knows whether this week will be a good race or a bad race week. We will have to wait and see.

(LONHRO (AUS) x REDOUTE’S CHOICE (AUS) x GONE WEST) A sizzling 80 SPF has to make a trainer happy but now Slammin has to decide if this is going to be a five furlong specialist or will translate to something more marketable. Stretching her back out this time could help to answer that question and she will probably go right for the lead under the hand of jockey Hansen. There is a good bit of early speed in this race so it could turn into a jailbreak at the start. Should be interesting.

(ALJABR x SADLER’S WELLS x AFFIRMED) Two very solid if unspectacular races for this lovely youngster. A good improvement as well but needs to continue to bump up that SPF to compete at this level. Trainer Priceless has Bayless in the saddle and that may help as he has been a hot jockey so far this campaign. Same old story, all you need sometimes is one really good race to set things off. Perhaps this is it.

(GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x DEPUTY MINISTER x FORTY NINER) This looks like a well bred monster filly that won her first two in very impressive fashion and with a third win here would be pointed toward very big things down the road for trainer Skunkieluv. She’s a strong finisher so the outside post shouldn’t bother her at all. She has Harzheim in the saddle and the two will certainly be a formidable pair. There are a couple of good competitors in this race but someone is going to make a statement and this could be your main speaker.

(ROSES IN MAY x BEAU GENIUS x ALYDAR) I keep wondering about this name…hmmmm. I don’t wonder about the talent of this filly though. Already a Stakes winner in her last outing, but she has run three straight on off tracks and everyone along with trainer Maximilian wonders what she can do on a fast track. It appears from the weatherman that we will get a chance to see this weekend. Ledwith is the top jockey at the track and he should be able to keep up the pressure from this filly.

For a Grade III there are some really nice looking fillies, perhaps even stronger than the GI that I wrote up this week. I like INDESCRIBABLE to contend but just miss the board. I may regret this but I worry about the distance for WESTWARD BOUND so I’m putting her in fourth. A couple of future starts that will probably come flying down the stretch, I like BUCKS BIG CITY to settle for third and GREY PEACE to hold on for second by a neck. Big things could come from both of those. The young lady that is ready to make a statement to the racing world this week is TAILOR MADE . She’s on her game and I don’t see anyone beating her.
