Welcome to todays feature over 6f on the dirt course. Expect a mad dash with a bunch finish as the morning line has no standout favourite. There appear to be quite a few in with a chance and it may be that the best out of the gate will give the biggest runs. The best jockeys may also have more of a say than usuual, with the winner likely to be a head or neck in front at the wire.
ZAHIA MOON (ALLEN’S PROSPECT x TABASCO CAT x VALDEZ)
Was running in graded races a couple of years ago, and then took two years off. Has come back with a couple of nice runs but looks to have been running over to far at 7-7.5f. Will like the drop to 6f and is not a no-hoper, despite the price.
PJ LORD NELSON (JOHANNESBURG x FORTY NINER x NORTHERN JOVE)
A couple of nice allowance runs recently but has flopped when tried in stakes or graded races this year. Has put up some impressive speed figures but the struggles in better races is a worry. It may be that he wants further in this grade and the percentage call is to oppose today.
THUNDER DUD (THUNDER GULCH x CRAFTY PROSPECTOR x EL GRAN SENOR)
Has won five of nine, including two stakes and has some impressive recent speeed figures. This looks about his distance despite the price he has a solid chance and should reach the top five.
RAZZMATAZZ T (GULCH x ARAZI x CREME DELA CREME)
Ran a decent allowance race latest and a couple of runs ago but most of his speed figures are below the 100 barrier and he doen’t look up to this.
CALL THE SHOTS (LION CAVERN x DEPUTY COMMANDER x MEADOWLAKE)
Another with some decent allowance runs but a disapointment when upped in grade, at least this year. If he gets back to his best form he can get a top five but he looks up against it on the balance of this years form.
GEOGRAPHICAL (CAPE TOWN x HERAT x SEATTLE SONG)
Has put up four consecutive races with sp figures of 100+ and was a cosy winner of a stakes latest. His best form has been at 7f plus though and i’m not sure about the drop in trip. Will be closing at the end and may reach the top three but i don’t think he can get the win today.
SULPHUR(IRE) (GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x FORTY NINER x LYPHARD)
May be the one to beat despite the price. Has won two stakes recently and come fourth in a Grade I. Likes to sit near the back and looks to prefer this trip. Everything in place for a big run and i expect a top three spot and maybe even the win.
HUSHWING HURRICANE (STORM CAT x DIXIELAND BAND x DON’T FORGET ME(IRE))
Will be treying to lead from the front and has been getting caught before the line- except in his last run. He held on by a length and will be trying the same here. May get an easy leasd and could be hard to catch. Top five and may even finish higher if he gets that soft lead.
FLASH THE CASH (CAT THIEF x NASHUA x DAMASCUS)
Has put up some big numbers recently and won easily in a stakes latest. This is his first try at a trip this short for a while but he sits just off the pace and looks to have the speed to cope. Dangerous.
MOUNT STORMY (STORM CAT x SILVER GHOST x BROGAN)
Put up some nice speed figures in allowance earlier in the year but has dropped of a little at that level last few runs. The lack of a recent stakes runs is a worry and combined with the relative drop in speed figures means i can’t see a win today. Top five at best.
HENNESSY TITANS (HENNESSY x MR. PROSPECTOR x NODOUBLE)
Lightly raced for a four year old and comes here on the back of a monster second place run in a grade III latest. That was over todays trip and as he’s still improving he must have a major chance. Expect a big run and a top two place.
DEVINE BEAUTY (JOYEUX DANSEUR x RUBIANO x WITH APPROVAL)
Broke the 100 sp barrier for the first time this season latest in an allowance and his only stakes run was very poor. Not up to the class of some of these.
TILTON ZERO(AUS) (DANZERO (AUS) x TILT UP x DANCER’S IMAGE)
Another dangerous runner, having produced three good runs over 7f in his last three races. He was leading by some way at the three quarter mark in each of those and should love the drop in trip. A big danger and another with top thre prospects at least.
RASENDER ROLAND (GENERAL MEETING x WAR CHANT x GONE WEST)
Ran a couple of really nice stakes races earlier in the year but has been a disapointment stepped up to this level the last twice. Might still be learning and could be dangerous but i don’t see a money run today.
Overall a very tricky rave to call, there are five in with a very good chance of the win and there won’t be much between them at the end. HENNESSY TITANS to get the win from TILTON ZERO(AUS) , FLASH THE CASH , SULPHUR(IRE) and THUNDER DUD in that order.
