Patu Picin commands Scapped River Special purse
Malaysia– As the odds-on favorite, ceejaygee’s Patu Picin did not disappoint his backers, powerfully winning the $50,000 Scapped River Special.
The veteran 5YO horse marked his 29th trip to the post with authority. Rallying from midpack in the field of eight horses, Patu Picin blew on by dpbstables’ stalker Majesty’s Way(GB) at the top of the stretch. In a thorough workout, the son of Kris S. extended his advantage to the wire by three lengths, stopping the clock in a zippy 2:01 2/5, a 107 SP# for the 10 main track furlongs.
Majesty’ Way(GB) finished up in second. It was a gap of 10 lengths back to a photo finish for third, where nottuna1’s sophomore longshot Grembano nosed out Boy On A Mission(IRE) (drturf).
The victory pushed Patu Picin’s bankroll ever closer to the million-dollar mark. He’s about $69,000 shy of clearing that impressive hurdle. The horse is best known for his win in the 2003 Wooden Indian(G2) as a sophomore. He finished 6th in that year’s Bluegrass Derby(G1) (won by Triple Crown champ I Seek U).
Patu Picin boasts an 11 of 29 record and now 3 wins-in-a-row as well over 10f. Solid in SP#s and consistency, his Malaysia triumph could open the door to perhaps a future graded stakes attempt.
