GSR Goldrush Sprint

Welcome to the Two Year Old colts division (dirt) of the GSR Cream OF The Crop racing series, now in it’s fifth year, ably masterminded by GSR stalwart KEELY, in between days of torturing- whoops i mean administering physiotherapy to her new patients (she’s on her first internship) and night of little to no sleep. Fantastic job yet again KEELY. (I think she has enough energy to power a small town, how she does it I don’t know).

This racing series is open only to horses bred from each years crop of first years sires and interstingly in this dirt colts division, there are only two from the nineteen who are bred from what would have been considered the top dozen freshman sires at the start of the year (Siant Liam and North Light) but the rest are bred from sires who are themselves lesser known offspring from some old favourites such as Kingmambo, Unbridled’s Song, Carson City, Storm Cat and A.P. Indy.

GSR member pgpg has two entries today, RAINBOW’S QUEST G (FANTASTICAT x SEATTLE SLEW x MR. PROSPECTOR)  the joint favourite on the morning line following a nice victory in his only race to date, over 4.5f witha nice 74sp. He’ll improve and as he sits up with the pace must be a real threat. The other runner from the pgpg barn is JUST PASSING BYE G (GRAND REWARD x DISTINCTIVE PRO x SADLER’S WELLS)  who ran a decent 67 sp first time up over 5.5f, leading to halfway before fading. The race will bring him on, as will the drop to 5f. Dangerous.

hawkz has one entry in thias race, the other joint favourite LIAM MINISTER (SAINT LIAM x DEPUTY MINISTER x CAERLEON)  who posted a nice 68 sp in a fast finishing debut fourth place over 5.5f. The drop back to 5f may not help here judging by the wat he finished first time up, look for a late charge.

winter is another with just one entry here, RAVEN NEVERMORE (DANCE WITH RAVENS x MR. GREELEY x EASY GOER) who has now ran twice and posted an improved 70 sp dropped back to todays trip latest. Another who’ll be up with the pace he could be anything and must surely rate a danger.

fabman comes into the race treble handed with THAT OLD FEELING (STATE CITY x AWESOME AGAIN x SUNDAY SILENCE) who finished a closing second on his only start over 6f. Will the drop to 5f suit? ONE NEVER KNOWS(IRE) (NORTH LIGHT (IRE) x MINING x HAIL TO REASON) who alsop finished a closing second over 6f- same question applies, is this too short? and VARSITY CAPTAIN (EREWHON x UNBRIDLED’S SONG x MAGESTERIAL) who finished third in his only start over 6f but who was closer to the front at the three-quarter polean the finish. The 5f today promises to suit him better and he could be a danger.

dundey comes in to the race two handed, with Q BERT (QUINTON’S GOLD x DANZIG x FUTURE STORM) who won his only start over 5.5f but who was further ahead at the three-quarter mark before tiring. Todays trip could be ideal and expect a big run. CASTLES IN SAND (MINGUN x DESERT SECRET(IRE) x MACHIAVELLIAN) ran only a 55 sp over 6f on dirt first time up and may prefer the green stuff.

keely the drive behind the series, has three entries here, WARRIOR’S PROMISE (POLLARD’S VISION x NUREYEV x SIR WIMBORNE) has run twice, with a promising 68 sp over 5.5f latest. Again though as a closer, i’m not sure about the further drop in trip. ROLLOUTTHECARPET (CLOSING ARGUMENT x CAME HOME x STORM BOOT) was just caught on the line over 4.5f and looks a bigger threat. The extraexperience should help him see out the trip better and he will be stronger this time up. KIWI’S FIANCE (EUROSILVER x FOREST WILDCAT x WILD AGAIN) ran ok first time out on good ground. The experience and better ground should bring on some improvement today.

ozsteve has only one runner in VAINGLORIOUS (EUROSILVER x DEPUTY MINISTER x GONE WEST) and he put up a decent 63sp first time up over 6f. He was closing there though and again the worry is the drop in trip. He also has a tyrfy looking pedigree to me and must be worth a try on the green.

lookout is another with one runner in INTOTHEPOT (KLONDIKE PETE x ACK DRONE x ALZAO) comes in off a second place finish in his only start, over 5.5f. He should improve but again was closing at the end. Is 5f too short?

cvbear has two entries in BALLROOM DANCER (DANCE WITH RAVENS x HALO’S IMAGE x BALDSKI) who ran ok over 5.5f on his only start but who will have to improve at least 12 points to win today. SLEEPWALKING (WOKE UP DREAMIN x TASSO x LT. STEVENS) was also ok in his first start and again he’ll have to improve by at least 15 points to figure today.

That leaves me, blacksoxuk with three entries. OLD TIMER (EREWHON x GRAND REVIVAL x RAJA BABA) has run twice over 6f on turf and dirt. He looks like the drop in trip will help but needs to improve around 15 points. WESTERN ENSIGN (WESTERN PRIDE x WAR EMBLEM x BAGDAD) looks a bigger threat. He put up a decent 61 sp in his only start and shouldn’t tire at the end this time. BLAZE OF HOPE (BLAZONRY x PERSONAL HOPE x PANORAMIC(GB)) who has looked ordinary in his two runs to date.

Overall a typically hard 2Yo race, made worse to call due to the unknown factor in the sires themselves. Sit back, enjoy the race and wait for the next round.
