Spotlight Race of the Day 10/10 West Virginia Allowance

Marmac, an avid reader of the BTB and reader of the bulletin boards responded to a special Readers Request I posted.  So the request is for the ladies that  are 3-year old and up in an allowance race that will be challenged at a distance of 10 furlongs and will be held on the grass turf.  Things are a little different in West Virginia as the dirt track is inside the turf track.  Shouldn’t make a bit of difference to this group whio will have nice racing weather coming their way.

1.  CINERAMA   16/1

Took bad fall in January outing resulting in major injury and questions about ability to return to track.  Was sent packing and new owners nursed gal back to health, returning in July to win by three and slowish 81 speed.  End of August won second time at 9.5 furlongs with sharper 99 speed.   A successful recovery from the nasty fall and odds could be very generous.

2.  DUBAWI EXPRESS   9/1

Earned win in June in listed 8.5f Flambeau Turf Filly Route (101 SP).  Moved to G1 United Oaks in July going 10 furlongs and was a non-competitive 13th and skiddish 91 SP.   Has spent last three months at the farm and makes return and looking to make amends.

3.  ALKI BEACH  8/1

A win streak of three in a row is put on the line by this four year old who charted speeds of 106 and 102 in the last two, both at 9 furlongs.  Connections asking this one to go a bit longer and she looks very capable of handling this demand.  Decent price to boot.

4.  ENORME   6/1

Four of five starts this year have been charted with speeds over 100.  Two of which came in listed stakes which included a win in the 7.5f  Artsinthealley Turf Mare Sprint in June with 101 SP and in the 7f (finished third) Soldiers Girl Turf Mare Sprint with 100 SP.   Generally likes running on lead although last two tried to rally from mid-field.   Asked to go 10 furlongs, longest of career and could be a test, but benefits with drop to allowance.

5.  THE DEMON ROAD  5/2

Struggled in last two graded races, finishing off board in G1 Breeders Bowl Game and The Call for Cash (both 8f) which resulted in three month layoff.    Has hit 108 SP twice this year, both at  mile distance.  Ran 10f twice in 2013 finishing fourth both times with graded company, in Yellow Submarine Stakes (G1) was relatively flat and 8 back.  In Blue Wind (G3) was gaining late ground and 2 back.   Tough call for race sponosor’s entry at distance, but has never been out of money in allowance for current trainer.

6.  I’LL WAIT FOR YOU  4/1

Kicked off 2014 with pair of  3wins with the first in listed Baker Street Turf Mare Route (9.5f)  followed by G3 victory in Shawnee River Handicap (9f), both sporting 106 speeds.  Put in strong performance in August allowance race at 10 flanks finishing second and impressive 108 SP.  Last month tried 11f in Urban Quest Turf Mare Stayer and had dull 7th place finish and 97 SP.   Back to allowance where she has won 5 of six races and one second (the 10f race previously mentioned).  Tough one at this level.

7.  RICHES UNTOLD   3/1

An all-surface race runner who has shown ability on all three surfaces:  dirt, turf and poly.  She has run on each one this season and fired off speeds of 100 or better on each surface.  As for turf, she is 2-0-1 in three starts with a 104 speed being the best and that came in the listed Quilt Jove Turf Mare Route (9f) and a win in February.   Last race was win in allowance going 10 furlongs on the dirt with 104 SP.   Loves to come from off the pace and has strong late run, however, she’s had a few starts this season that are forgetful ones.  Always one to keep an eye on.

8.  TEXAS STRUDEL  7/1

16 wins in 19 starts and never off the board, this filly has mainly raced in local bred events and benefited from very small fields.   Best speed of the year is 100 which came in June on a yielding surface.  Speeds appear low in the race program, mainly in 80’s to 90’s which is slower than the opponents, but hard to gauge as she has been able to win easily in the shorter fields, not having much need to push the numbers higher.  Faces largest field of her career and this will be a test to see how she fares with better horses.

The Demon Road looks to get back to stake competition and uses this race as stepping stone.  Rest should do her well for return.

I’ll Wait For You is tough foe in allowance class, gotta include.

Riches Untold did well on dirt at 10f in last, can carry that right back to turf, third choice.

Longshot:  I like Cinerama’s improvement with new connections and this one could spoil everything for top picks.

As Itch stated, Demon Road was not going all out and finished well back and maybe not doing as well as he targets the top notch racing levels.

Alki Beach scored the win in this race and convincingly with over 3 stride victory paying pricey $19.20 making it 4 in a row.

Richies Untold made up a few lengths late taking second spot.

I’ll Wait For You passed pace setting Dubawi Express late to get show spot.
