A very short field of six for todays feature over the classic (European) distance of 12f on the firm turf course.
LOST THE ASHES(AUS) (NOTHIN’ LEICA DANE(AUS) x NUREYEV x TO THE QUICK)
Has only broken the 90sp barrier once and only has one allowance win to his name. Will get the distance no problem but is he good enough ? It would be a surprise if he were to prevail today.
GILDED TOUCH (TOUCH GOLD x POLISH NUMBERS x QUIET AMERICAN)
Another who should get the trip but hasn’t posted good enough sp figures to rate a threat. A recent best of just 85 should not be good enough.
ONE FUNKY BROAD (RED RANSOM x BROAD BRUSH x ALYDAR)
Has only one sp over 90 but importantly it was in last last race, a fast closing second in a stakes over 11f. Will probably sit just off the pace and is a lively outsider.
EL FREDO(IRE) (EL PRADO(IRE) x TREMPOLINO x STAGE DOOR JOHNNY)
The second favourite, he has won a Grade II going away over 11f but was abit disapointing in the ADLEAIDE DERBY latest. Was it the extra disatance or the step up in grade? The latter looks more likely and with that experience he should be a threat today.
ROCKABILLY ROCK(IRE) (ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE) x SADLER’S WELLS x DYNAFORMER)
Intruiging this one, has put together some nive stakes and graded runs recently at up to 9f, the big question is can he get the trip? From a SADLER’S WELLS mare but has been getting out front early. I think this will prove to far but if i’m wrong, watchout.
SKILLS IN MAGIC (DENON x SADLER’S WELLS x KEY TO THE MINT)
The short priced favourite on the back of a Grade I win and second in his last thre runs BUT his latest run was woeful by comparison and the only difference was the distance- he stepped up to todays trip for the first time and got beat by more than 9 lengths. I think 10f might be his limit and he can be taken on today.
At the longer distances such a stodays, getting the trip can sometimes be more important than class. There are serious doubts about two of the leading contenders getting home so for me it has to be EL FREDO(IRE) for the win. It’s a lottery for the other two places, with ONE FUNKY BROAD just preffered to SKILLS IN MAGIC
