Big Red Bunny in Stunning Upset!

Canisminor’s Big Red Bunny dominated an excellent field in Colorado’s Wisely Without Jed Stake.  The recent auction purchase sat off the early pace, gradually reeled in the leaders, then sprinted clear once in command.

Canisminor paid a quarter million dollars for the Thunder Gulch stallion at the end of his five year old season.  I asked him about the purchase.  “Marathoners seem to maintain their form longer than routers or sprinters.  Look at horses like Dante and Bob The Cob.  They could race forever.  So I figured The Bunny had a lot of races left in him despite his age.  He sure was good today!”

Indeed.  The Big Red Bunny was super sharp in winning his second career stake, both on the dirt.  In addition to his fine dirt record, The Bunny has never been off the board in three grass appearances so I suspect we’ll see him back on the lawn sometime later this year.

Exotic Code(IRE) was a decent second, three lengths off the winner.  Then came Desert Vista(IRE) and Tbgifted’s Acid.  Favored Ink Jet’s two stake winning streak came to a screeching halt when he failed to raise a gallop and finished dead last.

The winner was timed in 2:47.3 for the mile and five-eighths distance over the fast main strip and paid $24.50 to win.
