A field of eight 2yo colts will enter the starting gate in the second running of the $40,000 CATAPULT Stakes at the District of Columbia Racetrack. The 10th race feature will be run at a distance of six furlongs over a Dirt Course.
– DYNASTORM – the 2yo son of Dynaformer, racing under the colors of the magical stable, turned in a stellar performance in his debut, drawing away from a full field of fourteen over the Eastern Kentucky oval. The promising Brown Homebred covered the six panels in 1:12 flat for a solid 73 SP figure. Proving to be a key race, two runners have emerged from that field to break their maidens, WORLD IMAGE, last in the field, came back to win a maiden claimer, while AWESOME BIRD returned to the EK oval to wire a similar field, while improving his SP figure by four points. DYNASTORM will be a stretch threat on Saturday, and certainly a horse to watch…can’t ignore
– BOLD LAKE – makes his third start and first stakes appearance for the manostable. The 2yo son of Green Desert is the first foal of the multi-stakes winning Seattle’s Bid, winner of over $250k in career earnings. This talented young colt followed up an impressive Arkansas debut with a solid 2nd place finish in an Allowance test LTO, just missing the equally impressive two-for-two TOWER COURT at the wire. Getting no respect at the betting windows, at 7-1 this colt is a must in your exotic wagers…chance for upset
– DESERT SNIPER – is a 2yo Brown Homebred by Action This Day, racing in the interest of the greenappl6 stable. DESERT SNIPER turned in an outstanding performance in his 2nd start LTO when he rallied to win a six furlong MSW in a nifty 1:11 4/5. Exploring the key race angle, 2nd place finisher BAD HUMOR held on at the wire to break his maiden in his next start over the same course at a shorter distance while turning in a slower SP figure. There are a lot of things to like about this capable young colt, one being his ability to come from behind, and his tenacity to compete, however I am somewhat leery of a bounce off his last performance…your call
– RATTLE MY CHAIN(AUS) – has been perfect in two starts racing under the racing silks of the dereen5073 stable. The 2yo Encosta De Lago(AUS) progeny is from a somewhat successful mare, Ballesteros, winner of over $150k in her career, and he has already exceeded the earning of his two older siblings combined. After coming off the pace to easily break his maiden in his Ontario debut, this talented juvenile wired a New York Allowance field, drawing away in the stretch to win by 2 ¼ widening lengths, an indication that this colt has dominated both his maiden and allowance competition and may well be a serious stakes contender…dangerous
– AMERICAN WEREWOLF – when you think about a dream breeding, you don’t have to look any further than kensei’s AMERICAN WEREWOLF. The 2yo Brown Homebred is the son of Storm Cat out of a Fappiano x NijinskyII mare. After turning in an eye-catching debut over the Florida oval, this high-priced juvenile finds himself the early morning 2-1 favorite in his first Stakes appearance. Of the two horses to come out of the Florida debut, both colts, CHANNEL NINE(AUS) and BANACK FOREST TED turned in a 1st and 2nd place performance respectively, however both recorded slower speeds than their debuts, an indication that the Florida race may have taken a toll on its participants. While it is hard to ignore a horse that is bred this well and debuted in such fine fashion, always looking for value, I’ll try and beat the 2-1 favorite at the betting windows, still…one to beat
– ARGUE THE QUEST – is a 2yo son of Closing Argument racing for the chloedawg stable’s. The freshman sire has gotten off to a good start with 5 winners from 22 starters, with ARGUE THE QUEST making the case for top honors after an exceptional New Jersey debut, where he rallied in deep stretch to shock the field at 18-1. After a sharp 58 4/5 for the 5 furlongs, this promising juvenile is entered right back off three weeks rest, something you don’t see too often this early in the 2yo season. As much as I like this colt’s debut, three weeks rest for 2yo’s scares me…look elsewhere
– CORRUPT PARLIAMENT – is a 2yo Touch Gold colt racing for the cjt5 stable. After an all out effort in his debut in Upper NY to win by a nose, the Chestnut hopeful turned in a less than spectacular performance in an allowance affair in DC, perhaps suffering the effects of his hard fought victory. I’m not sure this colt is ready for this level of competition at this time, and may need one off his last outing…pass
– DAYS OF SUMMER – is a 2yo son of Dayjur racing under the colors of the carolsfun stable. A convincing 2 length victory in his Ohio debut has earned this stretch running juvenile a spot in Saturday’s feature. Of the four horses that have come out of that race only one has hit the board in its next start, while all have turned in less than average SP figures in those starts, an indication that DAYS OF SUMMER will be facing much tougher rivals this time around…learn more today
