We’re traveling across the Pacific Ocean to Japan for an allowance race restricted only to 3 year olds and horses only bred in Japan, Kingdom of  Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The field consists of 7 males who were all foaled in Japan. Five of them are grandsons of Sunday Silence (and he doesn’t need any introduction). The field is set to go to post at 12:40 PM EST on Thursday for a purse of $43,800.  They will travel a distance of 11 f, ~2200 meters, or 1 mile and 3/8ths on the grass course which will be firm at time when the race is called. All 3 year olds are non -winners of 3 lifetime.  The field of 7 3 year olds has been set so let’s meet them.

1  Gimlet King    5/1   C Boser

From ten starts, King has 2 wins, 1 2nd, and 3 3rds with  earnings of $87,536. Owner jaypeg99 has entered this colt mainly in 1 mile races with the exception of one race on 7-11-14 which was at a distance of 9.5f at this very track. He broke his maiden first time out and won again here on 3-29-14. From looking at his past performances, he likes to be up front and I don’t think this will benefit him come Thursday considering they’re going farther than what he’s used to. Jockey Boser will have to take a hold of this colt to conserve fuel if they want a shot at winning.

2 Major Malton    10/1  S Kagawa

Being a great grandson of Sunday Silence through Daiwa Major out of the sim mare Malton Miss, Malton stables owns the bay colt who didn’t break his maiden until 5-26 fo this year and that was actually at this track but it was on the dirt surface going 10f with the same jockey he will be ridden by on Thursday. Just maybe the grass surface will be in his favor and the extra furlong will work for him since he is a closer. His speed ratings have been improving with his last one at #97 at UAE and MM has been switching back and forth from turf to dirt. The small field may be in his favor this time arond.

3  Pizza  Two Bucks   3/1   K Ledwith

Bred and owned by simsters9, PTB is sired by Workforce (GB) out of the sim mare Sacrilegious. The bay colt has earnings of $102,630 with 2 wins, 3 2nds, and 3 3rds from 8 starts. He broke his maiden first time out in IRE at 7f and it wasn’t until 3-11-14 that simsters started racing PTB at this track, starting at 6.5f and then moving up to 9.5f on 5-27-14 when he won his race at 2 1/2L, posting a #105, and was piloted by the very K  Ledwith (who will ride PTB on Thursday). Looking at his running style, Ledwith may have to save as much ground as he possibly can.

4  Tour Des Pecheurs   4/1  E Kennard

This brown colt is actually named after a sight in Haguenau, France (Fisherman’s Tower). With 11 starts and earnings of $89,315, the brown colt is coming off of a win breaking his maiden in a claiming race $75,000 tag at Hong Kong where he won by 5 1/2 L on 8-05. Deep Impact and Dynamin are the parents and falconswager owns the colt. He can most definitely get the distance but I’m not sure if he’ll like the grass surface here. Maybe he’ll pull a surprise for his owner.

5  Liborg   14/1   B Wahoo

Grey colt owned by butter6 bred by butters1. Liborg is sired by Daiwa Major (Sunday Silence son) out of the sim mare A Long December and he has earnings of $34,788 from 8 career starts (7 are from starting on the turf). Liborg finally broke his maiden here on 6-12-14 going at a distance of 12 f while winning by 3 1/2L over Rahy’s Special. He also won from gate to wire which makes it that much more impressive. He gets jockey B Wahoo for the first time and could pull an upset here for his owner.

6  Chemist M    4/1   L Rigdon

Sim mare Lil Hussy and sire Daiwa Major (Sunday Silence again) are the parents and butters8 is the proud owner.  I believe this bay colt is a late bloomer and that could count for him not breaking his maiden until 2-13-14 (5th race) here going 8.5f. Chemist is also coming off of a win here on 7-11-14 at 9.5f winning by 1 1/2L over Pizza Two Bucks and 3 3/4L over Gimlet King. So this will be a rematch between the three of them. He hasn’t gone past 9.5f but with being a closer, he may have the power and guts to give the fans a show.

7  Keeman’s Impact   2/1  G Arnold

Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) is the sire of this bay colt owned by henne and bred by kclocal. Keeman has $98,403 in earnings just from running on the grass, in which he has 2 wins, 3 2nds, and 2 3rds from 11 starts and his broke his maiden in his third try at (NSW -AUS) ON 3-9-14 at 9.5f.  G Arnold gets the call for the first time, this colt doesn’t have a problem with the distance, but the surface may cause an issue. His last start was in the G3 Gordy Stakes at NEW finishing in 6th. Could possibly by a surprise here and win.
