ASLAN’S MANE(IRE) (THEATRICAL(IRE) x MR. PROSPECTOR x SADLER’S WELLS)
Steady progression this year culminating in two sparkling runs latest to win a stakes and then a Garde III. Looks ready for the step up to Grade I level. Likes to sit at or near the front and should be setting the pace today. Still on the upgrade and a big danger. Top three at least.
ABENTE (MACHIAVELLIAN x HERAT x CRUSADER SWORD)
Been running well in stakes this year including a nice win with a 107 sp latest. Thats easily his best recent run and i’m not sure he looks ready for a Grade I race. Likes to sit mid-pack but will struggle to land a blow at this higher level.
DANE’S AFFAIR (DANEHILL x JADE HUNTER x LYPHARD)
Bit of a veteran now and best run this year was winning a Grade III three races back. That stands out from the rest of his recent form though, and although he might relish the step up in trip, i don’t think he’s quite good enough today.
MILITANT (POINT GIVEN x BLUSHING GROOM(FR) x NIJINSKY II)
Another veteran who ran his best race of the season latest. Has been leading and tiring on the line at 11-12f so the drop in trip should be fine. However he won’t get an easy lead today and with no recent sp’s over 100 looks to be up against it.
GERFLY’S DEED (GERI x SHADEED x NASKRA)
Intersting this one, has alternated between a sparkling run and an ok run this year, with a couple of stakes wins and Graded placings. Comes from the rear of the field and has a little extra distance today to help him. Dangerous and can reach the top three at least.
ROIDAZOID(IRE) (THEATRICAL(IRE) x AFFIRMED x NORTHFIELDS)
The price of 16/1 is too big, he’s better than that but too many ordinary runs this year make him hard to receommend. The drop in trip promises to help but not today for the win.
MERRY MEX (DEPUTY MINISTER x GONE WEST x NIJINSKY II)
Has looked better over much shorter and may even be looking for 7-7.5f now. Has disapointed every run over 8.5f and i can’t see todays 10f offering any hope. Not today.
RISE TO KLP (CAPOTE x NUREYEV x FAPPIANO)
Has put up three good runs in stakes this year, comes from way off the pace and has won over todays trip. However the step up to Grade I level looks too steep and the general profile this year does not inspire confidence. There are other with better form and sp’s this year so again not for me today.
HEY ZEUS (SADLER’S WELLS x GONE WEST x THEATRICAL(IRE))
Some nice runs this year but his best was over 12f to win a Grade II when he got up in the stretch to win. The faster pace up front today coupled with the drop in distance will mean he will struggle to get to the leaders. May get a top 5 finish.
JUPITER’S MOONS(IRE) (GALILEO (IRE) x NUREYEV x CAERLEON)
Has been running mostly over 12f and has looked as though a drop in trip was needed. Won a stakes over 9f recently before blowing up in a Grade I over the same trip. But for that last run i’d say a nailed on winner, with the distance looking perfect and sitting just off a fast pace also ideal. However his latest disapointing run is a worry and for that reason i would oppose him today.
ASLAN’S MANE will probably take the lead but will be contested and i think he’ll get caught near the line by GERFLY’s DEED with HEY ZEUS rattling home for third.
