Oaks Post # 5: THAT RIGHT (IRE)
After obtaining my press credentials I made my way to the backstretch where it was my it was my hope I would get a few words with Trainer Super12 part of the Super empire. A busy weekend it was going to be indeed for this stable for in addition to having THAT RIGHT (IRE) running in the Bluegrass Oaks, the same stable also had an entry in the Derby with SAN PELLEGRINO. Yes it was going to be a very busy weekend with all stable hands on deck. When I approached the shedrow there didn’t seem like there was a lot going on. A few people walking around a stray reporter trying to get a word or two to type before the deadline to press. After poking around for what seemed liked two days I found somebody who looked like they may know what direction to point me and asked if they could point me in the direction of the boss. Oh yeah came the reply he’s in the office right over there and with that pointed in the direction. With a firm knock on the door and a reply of come on in!! I was met for the first time by one of the the Sim’s great trainers Super12. After looking around his makeshift head quarter’s for the weekend which consisted of all the staples, the fridge, a desk with a phone on it a copy of the form. The most recent addition of the BTB and the Thouroughbred Times Stallion Directory. After a brief introduction I cut right to the chase and said tell me about THAT RIGHT (IRE)? He said well she is here and she is ready what do you want to know? Well for starters were you nervous you weren’t going to get to run seeing you did draw the twenty spot. Well we had some starter’s for the big races anyways and there was room on the van so she was going to ship regardless. As far as does she belong she sure does, as a 2yo she started her career winning 5 of 6 including a graded race before tailing off a bit. She is starting to regain some of that form and could play a huge role as a spoiler. He went on to say the distance suits her well and although the SP’s of some of the other’s may look better, she has faced a lot of them before and not been beaten that badly. The Post position only helps her case and the odd’s maker’s may have been a bit to generous this time around. Who can argue with a trainer with his experience, if this horse did not belong she would be running where she could be earning an easy paycheck. I asked about his selection of Jockeys in J.Caves. Caves is one of the Best no doubt about that was the reply!! He rode her the other morning in a closed work and when he got off her his only two words were “Thank You” I asked how fast she worked and he winked and said “Thank You” I laughed and asked if I could have one more question he said sure. I said the day before the big races and you have the Stallion Directory Open, why is that, he replied I have some nice 2yo’s but I have to cover myself to make sure I keep comming back here. I kinda like this place. No doubt in my mind he will be back now if I can get him to write some stallion names down for me, maybe I will see him one of these years.

THAT RIGHT (IRE) Started her career in week 2412 in Upstate NY in a 5.5 MSW, she won that race as the favorite in a 73Sp comming from off the pace in a fine effort. Her second start seven weeks later was at the same track and this time going 6f she could find only three other takers and went off at 1/5 in route to an easy 2 1/2 length victory with a 77Sp. She again rested for another seven weeks before trying a non-graded Stakes race at 6.5 F and again easily found the winners circle for the 3rd time in as many starts with a still improving 79Sp. True to form the 7 week rule was implored and a graded race was tried this time She was pointed towards the Red Fish Blue Fish G2 where she was beaten 4 lengths and finished 4th at 6.5 panels. Super12 stayed with the same training schedule and gave THAT RIGHT(IRE) seven more weeks off before pointing her towards the G3 Making The Grade that was her first try at a mile. She came from well off the pace to win going away to notch her first Graded victory. She stayed in NY and won a Non graded Stakes 4 weeks later at mile using that race as a prep for the Breeder’s Bowl. In the Breeder’s Bowl G1 she was unlucky and drew the 14 post for her first attempt at a Grade 1 and that proved to be a little much that day. She trailed for most of the race before picking up some of the tired ones late and finishing 8th. Her last start of the year came in the Boca Stakes G2 in FL where again she had the misfortune of drawing the outside post. She again trailed for most of the race before picking up a few horses late to finish 10th.
THAT RIGHT (IRE) Started her three year old season right where she left off in FL on vacation in FL. This time she tried the lawn for the first time in allowance company and went off 4/5. The grass didn’t seem to be the key as she ran an even 3rd in a five horse field in a rather slow SP of 79. From there trainer Super12 shipped to CA to run in the G2 Los Vinegrette Stakes at a mile. This looked like the place to get her back on track with a favorable post and a chance to show that late kick she had shown as a juvenile. She trailed early and did make a late run but not the furious kick she had shown as a 2yo getting beat better than 5 lenghts for 7th place. Her next start she shipped to MX for a non graded 8.5 event against a pretty solid field but again lacked effort and finished 4th beaten better than 4 lenghts. Her last start came in a sprint at 7 F in a non graded stakes where she posted a lifetime high 92Sp and did show that late foot that has been lacking in quite some time. Off that race she does rate a chance in this big field. It seems that most of the well bet horses are breaking well outside of her which only helps. Best of luck to THAT RIGHT (IRE) and the rest of the connections Horses.
