SAMOTH Holds off Challengers in Kentucky.

The Bluegrass Derby Trial Stakes
Grade III
A mile on Fast Dirt
$150,000
All horses, 3 years old

SAMOTH stood out like a polished jewel today, both by flashing his charcoal color down the stretch and also by the talent he showed in beating this promising young field. He showed in the Bluegrass Derby Trial Stakes that he may be ready to challenge some of the runners in next weeks big race for the rest of the year.

Trainer JTLincoln’s big black horse won his fifth race in only eight tries and upped his earnings over the two hundred thousand mark. This was the second consecutive race that he hit triple digit speed figures and the consistent colt seems to be moving to the next level in his training progression. His Storm Cat lineage certainly showed through today as he held off the frantic challenges of a couple of colts.

SAMOTH slid into seventh place upon exiting the gate just behind one of the pre race favorites, PAREJO . The two ran nearly side by side throughout the race with the winner sneaking by in the stretch. One of the big stories in this race was formerly undefeated colt SILVER CHRISTMAS who made a furious stretch run to move from 11th to just missing out on the winners circle and settling for third. He is certainly a horse to watch for the rest of this year. SAMOTH also removed PAREJO from the unbeaten ranks today with his win.

SAMOTH’s classy looks and undisputed talent won the day but it appears that several of these young colts may meet on the battlefield again in this race campaign. I hope that I get the opportunity to watch them!
