Amateur astronomers are waiting in line for a chance to place the winning bet in today’s running of The Planets –G2. Eight runners comprise our field but four really stand out above the rest and with some careful planning you should be cashing in. The track is rated fast and this should prove an exciting race for our sold crowd who get’s not one but two Graded races today. Here’s my analysis:
PP1 8/1 ROCK CUTTER(IRE)
GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x A.P. INDY x FORTY NINER
Trainer: liblelady3
Jockey: I Hoge ( 60 – 1 – 10 – 5 – 2% )
Drawing the inside gate, Rock Cutter(IRE) trying to regain the same form that he showed last year in route to two stake wins including one G-3 victory. He was completely outrun last time in the Sand Castle Classic G-1 finishing 27 lengths back. It will take a complete 180 to find any part of the purse today.
PP2 6/1 ELECTRIC EYE
REAL QUIET x ALYSHEBA x COX’S RIDGE
Trainer: larsonisto
Jockey: Y Kester ( 55 – 6 – 1 – 3 – 11% )
This Alysheba grandson has shown some competitiveness at 12 furlongs and the slight drop in distance may do him some good. He has a close to the lead style and may find himself out of breath if a speed duel ensues. However, he’s posted some pretty consistent numbers and if the pace is slow he may just have a chance to shock the favorites.
PP3 7/2 ONE BOLD RUSH
STRIKE THE GOLD x FAPPIANO x BOLD RULER
Trainer: sdmforlife
Jockey: D Givins ( 265 – 66 – 49 – 28 – 25% )
Top Jockey D. Givins gets the nod aboard our co-favorite One Bold Rush. This horse is coming of a near win finishing second in the Oaktree Handicap –G1 which seems to be habit he’s formed throughout his career. Although he does have two regular stakes wins he’s finished second an amazing five times in Graded events. He finished last year rather sluggishly but has bounced back nicely in three of four races. He looks poised to finally break that streak and finally find the winner’s circle but he’ll be facing some stiff competition.
PP4 6/1 OTTO HISTORY
DEPUTY MINISTER x FAPPIANO x BUCKPASSER
Trainer: capsized
Jockey: S O’Calslew ( 56 – 4 – 4 – 4 – 7% )
In only her seventh lifetime start, Otto History is already looking to grab her third Graded win. Starting later than most in her career this filly is fresh off a G-1 win. Today she looks to take on the boys to prove her worth. Although I’m never one to bet the girls over the guys, she’s one that may just make it on my tri ticket. Blessed with a ton of early speed she will try to wire the field considering she can overcome a bad gate position and questionable jockey choice.
PP5 7/1 THE DIVORCE
UNBRIDLED’S SONG x GONE WEST x NIJINSKY II
Trainer: jarrod2
Jockey: K Bortz ( 71 – 1 – 9 – 6 – 1% )
Our second filly in the group has one thing in common with her jockey K. Bortz; they both have only one win. Although she’s managed to hit the board in four of her last five starts in Grade 1 races, I think she may have bitten off more than she chew. Her number just don’t seem to live up to competing with her male counterparts and with only a MSW win to her resume, I’ll have to pass.
PP6 4/1
KINGMAMBO x NIJINSKY II x KRIS S.
Trainer: socalman
Jockey: P Cadigan ( 240 – 39 – 29 – 30 – 16% )
This Kingmambo colt came along very well the later part of last year including taking the Jockey Guild Gold Cup –G1. Although he’s had a couple bad trips this year, his come from behind style may be what is needed to find the winner’s circle. With so much front speed battling it out, he’s hoping for others to tire and pass them in the stretch. If he can find that magic tough he had last year, then winning this race wont be a problem. Look for him to come storming through horse in the backstretch.
PP7 7/2 CAPTAIN JIM
CAPTAIN BODGIT x FAR NORTH x
Trainer: gosox
Jockey: D Pagel ( 39 – 3 – 5 – 6 – 8% )
As our other co-favorite, Captain Jim looks like a freight train looking to crush the field. Winner of his last four starts that was capped off last time out by winning the Someone Set Us Up The Bomb Stakes –G3. His only downside is that he has had a tendency to cool off for a few races but trainer gosox made sure to include an Allowance prep race in between those wins and I like that move. I think this horse just needed to gain a little bit of his confidence back and it’s shown in his performance. Box him, key him but by all means put him on your ticket somewhere.
PP8 6/1 TETE RAINBOW(IRE)
GRAND LODGE (IRE) x RAINBOW QUEST x LYPHEOR(GB)
Trainer: vertain
Jockey: B Sipe ( 204 – 16 – 19 – 18 – 8% )
Just when you though that $10,000 can’t buy you much these days, vertain proves to us that a keen eye can still find a diamond in the rough every now and then. Since being claimed two seasons ago, this horse has garnered a handful of Allowance wins and one regular stakes win to boot. However, just don’t see what it take here to compete at this level of the game and I think he’s a lot better off running back in allowance races where he’s sure to bank those precious BP’s. With bad showings in his last two races I think I’ll have to pass as it will take a career best to hit the board.
