Likity Split Looking For The Win
Welcome to Ireland for this week’s stakes, The Stinky Comet Challenge. We’ve got five distance specialists in for this one, which will be run at 14f on the dirt course for a purse of $65,000. They’re all pretty well matched, too, with no odds higher than 5/1. Let’s take a look at the runners. On the rail at 3/1 is Northern Rock (Rainbow Quest x Storm Cat) owned by gregchilds. He is a 4yo and has won two stakes in his last four starts. He is ranked #96 in the long dirt division, and will be ridden today by G. Holland(4%).In post two at 2/1 is K’s Abbundanza (A.P. Indy x Nijinsky II) owned by kronus. He is a 4yo and has won two stakes in his last three starts. He is ranked #75 in the long dirt division, and has top jockey Z. Kentucky(19%) in the leathers. In post three at 5/1 is Firebird Schwartz (Dehere x Akarad(Fr) owned by adawg2. He is a 5yo and is working on a two race win streak, including a win a Swedish stakes last time out. C. Shull(8%) will be on board. In post four, also at 5/1, is Ireland’s own Lucus Augusti(Ire) (Theatrical(Ire) x Barathea(Ire) owned by galicia. He is a 4yo and is a G3 winner on turf, and a stakeswinner on dirt. He’s been a bit off form since his graded win, but his last race was on turf, and the turf to dirt angle should help him here. A. Reed(13%) is a great choice to ride.Rounding out the field is today’s favourite at 8/5, Lickity Split (Woodman x Pleasant Colony). The rangy brown 5yo owned by ojcbets is coming off a second place finish in the last 14f dirt stakes here in Ireland a few weeks ago. P. Adams(18%) replaces his previous jockey based on his encouraging performance in that race. That is our field. It should be a great race. Good luck to all the runners, and may they all come home sound.
