The CLEVELAND YOU Handicap Stakes
With a threat of showers and promise of a fast track six horse take to the track for the running of today’s feature race, The Cleveland You Handicap Stakes to be run at 10 furlong’s on a fast dirt track. We have a couple Stakes veteran’s in here as well as a few first timer’s in an event that could yield some surprises. Let’s take a look at the field.
1) ROCK RIVER SLEW 4/1
Claimed last year for current trainer seiren for 25 k, this 4yo son of Unbridled Song has earned his keep for his new connections. He makes the step up here and this might be the place to do it as this Stakes is a little softer than most run at this distance and age. His recent Sp’s say he belong’s and a small step in the right direction might have a photo oppurtunity in his immediate future. He has only tried This level in one previos attempt but I am willing to throw that out and give him another shot. I expect a big effort from him today and feel that the selection of S.Noles will help his chances of finding the board.
2) LIGHTBRINGER 5/2
This son of Touch Gold looks to get back on track today and this looks like the ideal place to do it. I was really surprised this was not the morning line favorite. I know the last two races are a bit suspect but, the horse has three Stakes wins at this distance, has a win over this strip and has faced Graded company. That’s a lot to like if you ask me. Trainer greenapple has to like this ones chances a lot today and maybe we will see eachother at the windows late trying to to get some late action on this overlay. P. Garbaaccio gets the assignment today and should he keep this stalker type out of trouble early, he should be heard from late.
3) LEAVE THE REEF 7/2
Every race has has that question mark and this one seems to fit the bill quite nicely. A winner of Two Graded Stakes races last year including the OakTree Handicap G1 and Jersey City G3. This son of Deputy Minister has not won a race since that last score in the Jersey a year ago which has been 11 starts. He has faced all the tough horses the Sim has to offer and lately has just not been up to the task. He can never be counted out of any race he is in and has proven in the past that he is truly a giant killer and has had more than his share of bettors throwing their programs in the trash before the finale. 4) EGLADOR (IRE) 7/1
Trainer tooner200 takes the plunge into Stakes company with this Rock Of Gabraltar(IRE) colt who has had some succsess in mostly in Restricted allowance company. He has done very well recently in his last four starts grabbing 3 wins and a 2nd all in NH. The switch in to Upstate NY is a question and the compitiion is certainly better so the odd’s maker’s probably have this one about right.. B.Pitts is slated to get the ride in todays feature.
5) CRYPTO MAN (IRE) 8/1
Comes in riding a three race win streak all for the new trainer coomer2 who reached and and grabbed this son of Monashee Mountain (IRE) $7,500. Does this horse belong in this race ? This reporter says Hell Ya. He has won each of his last three races at this Distance by daylight in each of those scores while making a class jump each time. He would not have to improve much to take it all and who’s to say we have seen his best effort in his last few races as it it easy to see he really didn’t need it. The odd’s are generous and he shouldn’t be overlooked. The Jockey Selected to ride is D.Nabinger who is capable of getting the whole job done.
6) ONE WILD CAT
The favorite draws the outside post for the feature in search of his first Stakes tally. His certainly brings the best recent SP’s to the table however I am not so sure I am ready to mortage the farm on this one. Trainer sdmf5 is one of the best at spotting his horses and I am sure he knows something. The 10 that he he being asked to run today is longer than he has gone at any point and that is a concern. I only say that because he is the chalk. The son of Wild Again has three back to back day light victory’s at 8.5 and may be able to hold on for his fourth today in what should be a great race. Z. Ayya is in the irons.
