Even field for The Niner Marc
A small but even field of 2yos line up for The Niner Marc Special this week at Victoria. With valuable stakes points on offer, it is certain to be a keenly fought contest as the babies work towards bigger riches later in the year.
Turf form is solid across 4 of the 5 runers with the only query being PERFECT HIGH(IRE) who has 1 win from 2 dirt starts but with Irish blood, he’s uncertainty on the surface represents some value at 5/1. Pre-post favourite ROB’S SECOND 9/5 was a solid winner in a maiden last start on a soft track but only the game will take those odds with a less than competant Jock on board. The nicely bred CRIMSON WARRIOR 5/2 is making steady progress and will be much better suited to the 1300m. He’ll be hitting the line harder than any other runner. OJAI TOOT 3/1 is the likely leader in the race and with a slow tempo up front, has the ability to pinch this one. Rounding out the field is GREEN FEILDS IVOR who has experience and form on his side here and at 7/2 represents the best value in the race. With 2 wins to date and 2 minors, this handsome son of Green Desert has all the hallmarks of a fine galloper.
My picks are GREEN FIELDS IVOR to win from the fast finishing CRIMSON WARRIOR and OJAI TOOT to hang on for 3rd.
