Rock’s Texas Cooking Series Stakes

The next leg of the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series over 1 mile and a half this time.   Few good classy sorts here and I like in particular Moose Baby, Touch and Stop and Slammed.

No cooking competition this time around but there is a competition for those people who are skilled at leaf throwing. That’s right ladies and gentlemen it is the annual leaf throwing competition back again already. Time goes by quickly doesn’t it.  Its pretty simple if you don’t know it, you basically choose a leaf and then throw it.  The one that goes the longest wins.  Have a good day at the track today folks.

Post 1:                   6/1 EXOTIC CODE(IRE) (freedominc)

Rumoured to be working in intelligence out of some faraway exotic lands he is back today with a chance at taking this out.  On surprisingly good odds considering his recent form in and out of stakes races.  However he has been consistently getting into the placings which might be why the bookies favour him here.  Has produced good speeds earlier in his career and no reason why he can’t do it again today.

Post 2:                   9/1 DEPUTY SEC OF WAR (simsters4)

Back from fighting in the latest war overseas, this 4yo colt is in good form with 2 recent wins at the allowance level as well as 2nd place finish in the The VERBID’S TRICK Challenge –Stk over 13 furlongs at a speed of 102.   Very good bloodlines and has the breeding to perform. Needs to produce it on the track now at this level.  Place chance I would suggest.

Post 3:                   16/1 URBAN SILENCE (battlers)

There is no such thing as urban silence. The term urban brings to mind cities, skyscrapers, people and most importantly noise and lots of it.  The word silence is exactly the opposite.. no noise.  Thus this horse is named by two words with opposing meanings.  Very good irony in this name and I particularly like it myself.  As to whether he can run at this level remains to be seen and has a very big question mark in my mind.  Is coming off a win at the allowance level though and looks ready to make the jump to Stakes.  Can he do it is what everybody is asking…

Post 4:                   7/1 MAMBO TIME (digginin)

Named after a song that I cant quite remember? Not sure.  Mambo time certainly sounds like a good song name.  5yo Horse out of Kingmambo has 29 starts to his name with 6 wins.  Another challenger here with some experience who seems to traditionally come from behind, making his run late.  Bred by digginin and trained by the same will be smiles all round not to mention MAMBO TIME in the stables tonight if he comes across the line in front.

Post 5:                   7/1 XTREMELY AWESOME (n2racing)

4yo Filly up against the boys here.  Big call straight up but she isn’t called Xtremely Awesome for nothing.  Has run in some big races including a third place finish in the Birmingham Stakes -G1 as well as an incredible 4th place in another G1 race against the boys. So folks she can definitely run.  Besides you have to wonder if some of the boys take more notice of her than actually running. Time will tell.  Good chance for this one.

Post 6:                   3/1 MOOSE BABY (mingo)

The second girl in the race and also the race favourite!!!  Cool name, cool horse and a very nice racing career to boot.  Get this… 20 starts for 11 wins.  Two starts back won the Stakes race over 11 furlongs with a speed of 106.  That’s pretty impressive.  Has been running exclusively against the girls of late so the trainer in mingo has decided to put her up against the boys and see what she can produce.  Rightly favourite of the race and providing she doesn’t get pushed around too much should see this as another win for her.

Post 7:                   11/1 ACID (tbgifted2)

One of the less fancied runners by the bookies here is Acid a 4yo colt by Woodman.  Has been up and down in form with a very good run for 3rd in a G3 race 4 starts back but then produced a hugely disappointing run in a G1 race 2 starts back coming in at 18th spot out of 20 runners.  Last time out ran in 4th in a Stakes race so may be coming back into form. Definitely on good odds if he gets across the line and would have to expect anything from this one.

Post 8:                   10/1 SLAMMED (shamrandk)

Another of the favourites and at 10/1 is on fantastic odds. This one can certainly run and has proved that with a fairly consistent record to date.  Has the potential to step up here and push for the win in my book and these are usually the types of horses that I look for when I’m having a small bet.  Good chance, good odds and lots of money if he comes in.  Place or win here today.

Post 9:                   7/1 FEVER BURNING (dundey4)

This 4yo colt was almost scratched from this race when he was noticed with a burning fever a few days ago while going out to the training track. The trainer and his vet however have worked miracles and here he is looking fit and ready to go like nothing else.  Who would have thought he was at deaths door hey…Ignoring his recent sickness he has a good solid consistent record at the allowance level over this distance.    Stepped up last time out to the Stakes level and came in a fast finishing 2nd place.  Another chance here today.

Post 10:                 4/1 TOUCH AND STOP (dlynche)

Very lightly raced is this 5yo horse. 13 starts for 5 wins.  The rumour that if he is pushed too hard he stops is wrong. Look at his race record.  Good speeds and lots of wins in that short racing career.  Second favourite here and I would judge would have to be a win or 2nd place at worst.  Its more like touch him and he goes rather than as his name suggests.
