Cayman Cape Sprints To Lead And Win In Kentucky

Hornedfrog’s Cayman Cape sprinted to a clear lead in the stretch and held off a late charge by Black Avenue to win the $85,000 Berzerk A.P. Stakes in Kentucky.  Cayman Cape covered the 6.5 furlongs in a snappy 1:16.

Breaking out of the eight hole, Cayman Cape and racingqueen’s Proprietary battled in the first quarter mile before Cayman Cape was able to put that one away.   Black Avenue settled into second place in the stretch and made a final move in the last few strides to miss the win by one-half length.  In third was zwango1’s fast closing Suicide Solution.  Suicide Solution, nine lengths behind entering the stretch, found a huge closing kick to finish just three-quarters of a length behind the winner.  Race favorite Barb’s Super Duper started in last place and rallied to finish fourth.

Cayman Cape, a four year old filly sired by Cape Canaveral, won for the sixth time in eleven starts.  This was the first career stakes win for Cayman Cape.  Owner/trainer hornedfrog, a top 100 money-winning trainer this year in the sim, earned his third stakes win of the year.

The fabulously furious finish by Suicide Solution turned out to be the last race of her career.  She finished her career with four wins in twenty four career starts including two stakes wins and almost $500,000 in earnings.  So, while the sim says goodbye to Suicide Solution, we also say hello to three year old colt Wicked Lester (Forty Niner x Peintre Celebre (IRE) x Storm Bird).
