Pedro Takes Utah’s December Prospect
In The December Prospect Cap, a race which lacked nothing in excitement, in Utah this week, up and comer The Pedro Factor well and truly stood up to be counted. Pre race tactics were always going to be hit and miss, with the short priced favorite and obvious leader coming off a long break. Trainer Pedro1975 was not to intimidated however, and instructed jockey F.Teising to adopt Pedro’s normal style, give him plenty of time to settle without getting too far off the pace, then save the best for last. The jockey followed the instructions to the letter, allowing the favorite to bowl along in front before getting to work on The Pedro Factor and unleashing a withering burst down the stretch. Several other jockeys had similar thoughts, and as a wave of opposition overwhelmed the early leader, it was The Pedro Factor who proved to have the most in the tank, powering home to score a convincing win by three quarters of a length.
Silver Blast adopted similar tactics to the winner, and the wide barrier may have contributed to his defeat, as he was always forced to remain wider on the track than Pedro. He ran home very strongly, overpowering all but the winner, and gaining plenty of respect for his courageous effort.
Go Go Yubari further justified the “ease but keep handy” tactic, running home solidly to fill third, a length and a half behind the winner
Creep accepted the “keep the leader honest” roll, remaining within a length and not allowing the favorite to relax in front, he forged to the lead impressively at the top of the stretch, but the effort took its toll as he was overrun from behind.
John John, as expected, jumped straight to the lead and, as hoped for by his opponents, found his long absence from the track the telling factor.
Dencora made up a couple lengths in the run home.
Smeltz in Dixie was up there early but couldn’t go on.
Alzao Missed plodded throughout.
Gold Strucked strucked out
Maximise was handy early before weakening.
Dane’s Risen Star went backwards from the jump.
The Pedro Factor is a four year old Scenic / Ela-Mana-Mou colt, bred and raced by Pedro1975. This win at his first black type attempt, takes his record to 5 wins from 10 starts and he’s earned a career total of over $107,000. The Pedro Factor ran the 8 furlongs in 1.34.8 and returned a speed rating of 105.
Pedro1975 is putting a total effort into just two horses at the present time, and it certainly appears to be paying dividends. The stable has chalked up its tenth win this weekend from 99 lifetime runners.
